I wonder, now that the factions are unlocked racially, will it be a detriment to your faction immersion? Or will it make factions more immersive?

I'm afraid faction immersion can take a serious hit because of that. Imagine a battalion of Nords fighting for the Aldmeri Dominion and they win just to crown a Breton Emperor for the glory of the Elves...

What you say is a significant concern. At the same time, however, would all Nords that happen to live within the boundaries of the AD or DC just pack up and leave when the fighting starts? There is plenty of real-life precedent for a group to support the land they were born and raised in over their ancestors ethnic homeland.

The main reason i see people joining a different alliance is because of friends or they dont like the alliance their race is on but I feel most people will stick to their original alliance

Bad choices. All races on any faction and. Imps If you pay for them. Pay to play element and a would be cash grab. I wouldn't be surprised to see a pay service later In the game to switch factions or play a Imp, after the pre-orders are done.

People are throwing silly exaggeration of it..
Its only for people who pre-order..

Not everybody pre-orders, you might find this issue to start off, but as soon as they send out the 2nd shipment of CD's, or anything sold after release day, then the issue is gone.

Definitely agree that realistically, the impact of any race, any alliance will be minimal which is why I haven't included myself with those who are really blowing this way out of proportion and refusing to buy the game now based on the fact that this is a pre-order thing only, and that many people who have pre-ordered have already resolved to stay pure faction. Even with this though, I still highly disagree with the decision simply based on principle. The fact that we were told one thing from day one and now have been essentially given the opposite does not sit well with me. Still looking forward to the game though. How I see it, a bad decision, even if the game does turn out the be the greatest thing ever (which I'm hoping it does), it doesn't change the fact that this was a bad decision in my opinion.

As far as Imperial being exclusive, I still highly disagree with. Not with having imperials in the game mind you, that race I feel is a core element of the elder scrolls universe and so should be in the game, but having to pay extra for such an essential part of the universe is like having to pay extra to use swords then claiming swords as a simple bonus and not required to enjoy the game. While true, that notion that paying extra is justified is still completely ludicrous.

To be perfectly honest, I don't disagree with you, I find that making this snap change at the last minute undermines their consistency and allows us to think that they may make hasty or wild decisions in the future, which is in a way a big warning sign. However this is all we can see.

I find that it most likely was an error waiting this long, but announcing this too soon could have be just as bad.

They may have planned a late release of this information with exclusive access in order to hype the game some more. I think the popularity of the any race anywhere idea was initially the most popular choice, but a lot of people didn't like it, I am willing to bet somewhere down the line they thought 'What could we do to get the excitement back' in which this idea was formed.

The only issue is they left it too late, which as I said, makes them seem volatile, but if they had of announced it too soon then they would have lost integrity as the player base would surely have thought they caved to public pressure.

As for the cost of it? I don't blame the developers, nor do I hold anything against them, marketing is an important part, and in the corporate world and extra dollar is worth more than a life.

It will certainly help immersion for me. The Elder Scrolls I've played did always feature more than three races.

My concern is that I know there will be a lot of pre-orders. Hopefully people stick to their original factions, I have no problem with Bretons in AD. But red gaurds, argonians, nord and dunmer. Would add to much diversity to a very racist faction.
