Faction & Race:
Aldmeri Dominion (Bosmer)
]Hey everyone I'm a newish Elder Scrolls player I just hopped in to the series in Skyrim, which was by far one of my favorite games. Anyways seeing as how the PVP seems to be set up, [b]I was wondering if anybody would think it'd be realistic to see multi faction guilds? I was wondering this plan on playing consistently with a group of about 15 to 30 so i imagine it will be hard for us all to agree on one alliance without upsetting anyone.

There is no cross faction communication within the game at this time. It will most likely stay this way for good reason.

If this wasn't a time of war across all of Tamriel I'd say yes, let us have cross faction guilds. Due to when the game takes place and the political scene of the late 2nd era I have to say no.

well technically they could speak other language, many races if Temriel haw there own lenguage.

I don't think its possible to haw inter faction Guild, and i don't see the point in it, if its social aspect that you want, there is always Facebook, or some other social network.

@Voren thanks that's probaly the best response on this thread right now.

Like I said I'm a newish scrolls player so i really don't know all the lore....

And thinking about the concept of it being a game of 'choices' to me it would make sense if you could leave your starting alliance and join a new one but the feasibility of that as many of you pointed out is probaly low. Personally i would like to see that implemented into the game, but regardless i'm sure ESO will be a great game with or without multi-alliance guilds.

as far as i know. something like cross faction guilds were mentioned. but not like you want it. more like you can have multiple characters in multiple alliances and one character can be in several guilds. but im not too sure on that whole affair.

No, it would defeat the purpose of segregating the factions outside of world pvp. If I could join another faction's guild, why couldn't I travel into their home territory?

Some Guilds are cross factional especially the various Assassin guilds e.g. Dark Brotherhood, Morag Tong but also the Fighters' and probably Magicians' Guilds. As to player collectives ~ call them guilds if you like ~ it appears to experience ( and Zenimax want this) the full dynamic of TESO game you will need to play all 3 factions (though I won't bother) for the different story arcs and perhaps you will do it with friends? The game cannot stop you setting up a multi factional guild on the internet if that is what you want to do but, remember, the throne is up for grabs.

Although there are 3 factions there will be spies and if they cannot infiltrate a faction perhaps they will be organised and make multi-factional "collectives".

well you cannot join the same PvP campaign on different factions anyway.
i dont think its going to be an issue, but most hardcore players will at the end of the day stick to one faction.

It was my understanding that it is a time of war across the whole continent and that's the main lore reason for not allowing players into enemy provinces... and also to avoid people getting mad about getting killed when they try to quest.

To answer the OP, I think cross faction guilds are not a good idea for a couple reasons:

1. The lore - you would essentially be betraying your faction by working with members from another.
2. PvP Campaigns - if one of these cross faction guilds got large enough they could have an entire campaign to themselves and just work it so that everyone got all of the achievements and buffed up their PvP rank/numbers without actually having a real competition
3. Still with campaigns and the previous point, a guild leader could sabotage the other team by telling his members in that faction to send resources the wrong way or take up all the trebuchets, etc.

It would be neat from a community standpoint... but that's why we have forums and you can create multiple characters who can't join the same campaign.

I agree with the whole community standpoint. It's awesome to just let players be players and have epic adventures and stuff.. But it's all a case of who can be mature about the situation and let the PvP rule sets stay to themselves and not try to find a loophole of how you can somehow be a spy. Though I don't really see the point of it, I really have a little more faith in humanity and competition, mainly competition that would keep all of a campaign from working with each other to impose a competitive nature and not a "lolololol we gots stats"..

However, I don't like not being able to understand my enemies. It should act like a /say works, but maybe in a broken way. I.E In certain games where typing while drunks adds random letters to make it seem like slur, you could give a dialogue that would make it at least kinda difficult to read. Balancing to be had, not-so-fun coding too.

The combination of information that has been released has made this faction thing a little blurry. According to a recent interview, you can join guilds cross faction, and even speak to them in guild chat. Also, the way it's set up now, you can talk across faction in Cyrodiil. I tend to ramble sometimes so I will just sum up my main points/concerns.

1. We can join cross faction guilds, but we can't join them in content at all. That seems a little contradictory. I think that if we have that capability we should be able to adventure together. I don't think I support the idea of cross faction guilds with the current set up of faction locks. Also, I believe that it does not foster any sort of faction pride in my opinion.

2. If cross faction communication is to be supported, I do NOT think it should be available in Cyrodiil. For reasons I don't even think are necessary to mention, I think that can get really messy.

3. Cross faction communication overall I think is a bit risky. Sure they are looking to foster a community setting, but in the game there should be some sort of pride in your faction, and I think that limiting communication is one way to do that. I mean, that's what the official forums and TESOF are for right? I want to be proud to be Aldmeri. This also goes back to the first point, that if you are going to allow us to communicate with each other, we should be able to enjoy content together with the exception of Cyrodiil.

So let me clarify. I am not against cross faction communication (except Cyrodiil) or cross faction guilds. I just disagree with the current set up. It's more of a tease than anything. Allowing us to talk to each other but never see each other. I think if it's done right it would be great, but I think the way it is right now is a little contradictory. What are your thoughts?
