Hey guys, so like I'm sure many of you have been doing I've been keeping my ear to the ground on TESO and everything about it looks absolutely incredible.... Save for this one thing. I've been reading more and more about "Faction locked territories" and the idea is just... Outlandish to me. From what I've read there will be portions of the game that characters from opposing factions will never be allowed to see... Ever... So for say an Orc to go the Summerset Isles the player will have to make a character with the Aldmeri Dominion. And please if I've understood this wrong then stop reading here and correct me but if this is as it appears then I'm really put out by it. My Elder Scrolls play style has always been to have one character and everything I can do with him, I do so. Now that I'm seeing that there will be entire countries that I won't be able to visit on my main character I'm getting a little worried about how much of the world I'll really be able to explore. Terrified
Now all this being said I do 100% understand that during this game the nations are at war with each other, I understand that my Orc would not be welcome in a Nord city, and that's not what I want, I just want to be able to see all the locales that the game has to offer without betraying my favored faction. So if anyone has any further information on this or if you know that I have this all wrong and have mistaken then please do tell me so that I can stop living in fear that I'll have to make a Wood Elf one of these days. Basically you have to make another character unless they end up implementing PvP flagging or something like that.

And that would be okay in my opinion, but I don't know if the supporters of the faction locked territories would see a PvP flagging system as an okay compromise. Are you a supporter of it yourself?

I'm don't really have anything worthy to backup my argument here but, I remember seeing a video or a blog post maybe, that said some things about the capturing the elder scrolls. The point is that, if you wanna capture the elder scroll of the enemy (which gives the whole ally sweet buffs btw) you have to break in the "main castle" of the enemy alliance and bring it to yours. Well I don't really know what the "Main Castle" means, but IMO it's the capital of the faction, and where should the AD capital be, if not on high elves land? So I still have a hope that we may have chance to explore the enemy territories with our high level awesome chars.
P.S. It's only my opinion, don't take this as a proven fact.

It would be a huge mistake if they did. If they do lock any areas, I hope they're only the "starter zones."

They have confirmed that there will be faction locked territories. But I hope they would consider changing that if players annoy them enough about it :P

And annoying them is just what I plan to do, but I don't want to go to them, the people who are spending time out of their lives to bring me an absolute marvel of a game and just say "Hey... I don't like this, would you change it?" lol.
What I would like to do is get enough people who agree and think of several compromises, plans that would work for a variety of people and in the long run keep everyone happy. I understand the need to keep low levels safe from high level jerks who would farm them, I really do. I have no objection with starter areas say levels 1-10 being off limits. But to lose entire Countries that are full of lore, caves, and potential is just too much for me. So I say we keep our eyes and ears open and pay attention to everyone's concerns and think of some way to compromise.

I just can't imagine it being as severe as entire countries. That just wouldn't make sense... they claim that they're really pushing the exploration aspect of the game.

I think PvP flagging would be perfectly fine. I think I should be able to explore the whole game on any character and with flagging the lower levels won't have to worry about being killed by enemies. I can deal with not being able to go everywhere, I just don't see a very good reason for them not wanting to use something such as flagging.

Its fine with me, if they open the faction areas to other factions that would defeat the wartime aspect of the game.

There will be faction-locked areas, period. This system is fundamental to the RvR setup of TESO and cannot be changed. If you believe that faction locked areas will ruin your enjoyment of this game, then you have never played a true RvR type MMORPG. You're probably thinking of FvF (faction vs faction) which is very different. Keep an open mind about RvR.

This topic has also been discussed to death in previous threads.

DAoC was the first popular RvR MMORPG, and they are still live today. They have a two week free trial. Give it a spin and you will find that faction locked territories is not at all the catastrophe you believe it is. It actually works very well.

Oh look, its this thread again. burn it while its in infancy.
Seriously lock it. we have one of those, we dont need two. And force everyone to read the fact that the zones WILL be faction locked and there is nothing they can do about it.
