As a veteran PVP'er of MMO games I've been wondering how pvp and sieges will work because everyone who has ever played WoW pvp knows that no one listens to anything, will it be more strategy based or will it be like sieges from skyrim where you run willy nilly killing soldiers to take the fort.

During one of the betas, a group of 9 or so held off a few waves of 30+ enemies using strategy, but eventually died down to the last man. This event has been named the "Chalamo" by the testers. While this shows strategy can trump numbers, people from the internet as a whole tend to be too stupid to listen to strategy and instead like to just do what they want. Good strategy WILL trump numbers, but unfortunately I see it devolving into a zerg fest anyway due to player mindset.

Well that depends, as many players will also belong to guilds, and the right guilds will be able to cut great swathes through cyrodiil. If you got two or three guilds that organized their members and communicated with each other that campaign would be dominated. Yes random players in PUGs will always be zeros. But in guilds, and every now and again that golden PUG will do wonders.

I agree it will be mainly chaotic assaults mixed with a few organized groups and guilds with their own objectives. Make sure you're in an active PvP guild that actively takes part in this sort of thing as a team and you'll probably have a much better time during a siege. Hopefully there will be enough organized groups either side to make it more strategic. This is how I intend to play anyway once I create a guild with some friends and hopefully expand.

Well it's like the battle of Thermopylae. Even with incredible strategy and skill, you get enough people and you can level mountains just by walking. That being said, will you always be able to get enough uncoordinated people together for long enough to accomplish something? No. And, what happens when you get a ton of people that actually are coordinated? EPICNESS. Imagine if the Chalamo had 20 people instead of 10. Could they have won? Could they have pushed back all the attackers? Maybe. And that sounded like it was a PUG too! It just takes communication. If you're relying on numbers to win every time, you'll only win when you hold a VAST advantage.

Which is more difficult: To do as you wish? Or to have power and choose not to?

God help me if people don't listen to reason.

However combat stupidity can be combated by joining a guild with good communication and hopefully if a large proportion of the guild is there then the 'sheep effect' will happen and all the other players will follow what the majority is doing.

I actually don't think that the zerg is going to be a huge problem if the defense is using good strategy. Defending a keep is tactically more advantageous than attacking already. Remember also that spawn points are not right on top of keeps, so unless the attacking party has a force large enough to where that attack will be a continuous assault instead of coming in periodic waves, strategy will be easily victorious (Unless of course the attacking party is using strategy also)

Just look at the roots of zerging; the Zerg of StarCraft. As a former master of the Zerg Rush, the biggest element of a successful rush is speed. If you took to long to set up your attack and your opponent had the mind to set up strategic defenses, it suddenly becomes exponentially harder to win by using the zerg rush. (also a key element in Hitler's blitzkrieg, notice that the Nazis didn't use it anymore after WWII was in full swing)

Does that mean zerging will never win in ESO? Of course not. The only thing that can beat zerging is strategy, so if the defense isn't using good strategy then they wouldn't have a chance in oblivion against the brutal might of the zerg.
