I am very new to MMO's and am unfamiliar with guilds so can someone please tell me what a guild is/does? and how you meet with your guildmates and anything else necessary to be apart of a guild or make one?

A guild is an organized group of like-minded people who have decided to band together to pursue their interests. This is very similar to how the Mage's Guild of the Elder Scrolls is a group of wizards and sorcerors pursuing their studies in magic. A guild can be formed for any purpose; whether it's largescale PvE content, PvP domination, or even any RP subject. Any race or class can join depending on the leadership's policies in an effort to fulfill whatever objective they may have (loot, challenge, fun, etc.)

Most MMOs offer a system where you can create a guild entity and invite others to join it. Sometimes guildmates are friends whether from past online games or IRL, but most often they are random people who share the guild's interests that decide to come together. All you essentially need to make a guild is an idea and people who are interested enough in it to join you.

Sunrio - Aldmeri Justiciar

Taren Jucanis - Imperial Deserter (Used for The Black Shroud RP)

Guilds are basically organized groups of people within an MMO that play together. Some of them are tightly structured, enforcing a ranking system with the leader (called a guild master) on top of the pyramid and elected officers right below him, leaving the rest of the "common folk" at the bottom. Others are more informal and just provide you with quick access to a list of people that may be willing to play with you.

Also important to mention is that a bunch of these guilds have a sort of "purpose" within the game; for example, guild "A" focuses solely on PvE while guild "B" concentrates on PvP. As above, it varies from group to group so you can expect a wide variety of options. What you need to keep in mind is that if you're interested in joining one, that you take some time to think what's your style of playing and what are you looking for to achieve in TESO. Are interested on battling other players? Do you like clearing dungeons? Is crafting something you'd be interested on? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself. Then, when you are ready, look carefully and apply for the one that you think fits you the most. I think that will help you in the long run.

Here are some links that might be useful to you:

This is a list of guilds registered on TESO. You can filter out the results if you're looking to play in a specific faction.

This is the site of the 3 official TESOF guilds: The Buoyant Armigers, The Kynaran Order and the TESOF's Super Tester Guys. Sadly, there's no official AD guild as of yet.

Also, feel free to look for a group on other sites such as Tamriel Foundry. Who knows, maybe you'll find something there too.

In any case, best of luck! I hope you find something that you like!

Thank you both! but I still would like to know how do you meet with your guildmates in-game? is there a designated meeting place or do you meet up with them outside a dungeon or before starting a raid or what?

Meeting up with guildies is often a case of simply asking in guild chat "Hey, who wants to meet up for questing/a dungeon!". You then group up with whoever wants to come and decide where you will all meet up (in front of a dungeon, a certain waypoint, etc).

MMO's offer you various easy tools to quickly bunch up with your friends and find each other, so don't worry!

I don't know, really. It depends on what the command part of the guild decides. In any case, they'll let you know if there's a guild event (such as a raid) scheduled by sending you PM's or in-game mail so you'll be informed of what's going on with the group.

I would think so? Like I said, it really depends on the guild. Some groups have their own websites/forums where they meet and and plan. Others might communicate only by in-game means. I wouldn't worry too much now. Just find a guild you like and enjoy it!

Obviously, what ever guild type you have joined for example my guild (RP and PvP/PvE) we would discuss dungeon delving and RP through PM's. If like you have suggested you join a merchant guild, you will probably still discuss it through PM's. So PM's and chatting is really the way on ESO. :D
