Hit detection

So I saw a video the other day that was clearly leaked beta footage and no it wasn't that horrible early beta footage thing that people were raging over.

It was a mage like character using a staff that was f-in around with UI and gfx settings for 5 minutes and then goes out into a desert type environment probably Hammerfell. So if anyone has seen it they know what I'm talking about.

First off it looked good, it felt like an Elder Scrolls with classic MMO feel, probably 50/50. Then I notice the combat, and the hit detection felt 100% classic MMO. He was fighting wolves and it felt like in WoW where you are running away from a mob and you are 10 meters ahead of him but bamm you are getting hit. I think we can all forget bows will work as they do in previous ESO games but thats an entirely different topic.

So what first came into mind was, ok so if I am able to play this game in 1st person Skyrim style, how the hell will that work... getting hit in the face with an axe then you are standing a few meters away. As of now i'm not seeing this thing work in first person.

Im sure everyone has their concerns about the game satisfying their needs, so that's hopefully 10s of thousands of needs right so we wont all be satisfied with every little thing the game throws at us. On the other hand what your talking about is a "closed beta" leaked footage from who knows when. In the gameplay footage they show in interviews the combat seems nothing like what you describe. I see a generally working game, beta will continue to test different things at different times so if we do run into some stupid people who want to post videos of the game then we cant really take it tooo seriously.

Esxactly. The game is still in closed beta. EVERYTHING is subject to change

This has already been discussed I believe. AngryJoe even mentioned it in his interview and they ignored the question basically. No mob or player collision is going to fan out from that and make it to where everyone is essentially a X meter circle of death. If you're inside of this set number be it 5 or 10 meters, you're subject to punishment. No collision in games essentially makes combat always feel like we're all ghosts with really long scythes.

Yeah, and doesn't that make the 1st person view totally handicapped.

I'm not saying that its a bad thing, but I think non MMO players will be a bit WTF?

Debating with someone on the Internet is like mudwrestling with a pig. You get filthy and the pig loves it

^ Pretty much this.

I don't like to think about combat in this game because to me it sounds bad. That is if I think of this game being an elder scrolls game. Think of it more like an MMO in combat terms. >.>

In the most recent ShoddyCast (with Jesse Cox), it was stated that a lot of MMO-only veterans were switching over to full-time first person view. Obviously there has to be SOMETHING great about it for that to happen.

While this is a nice read it doesn't really answer if my sword is going to be 10x longer than it appears to be... unless I'm missing something.
