Note: Zenimax's current stance on guild ranks appears to be "less is more" as they only allow for 4 ranks in-game. I, and I'm sure many others, have already emailed them about this. Until such a time as this is amended, all rank requirements are waived. New members will start at "Hireling" and be bumped up to "Member" if deemed worthy.


House Telvanni

The wizard-lords of House Telvanni have traditionally isolated themselves, pursuing wisdom and mastery in solitude. But certain ambitious wizards-lords, their retainers, and clients have entered wholeheartedly into the competition to control and exploit Vvardenfell's land and resources, building towers and bases all along the eastern coast. According to Telvanni principles, the powerful define the standards of virtue. — Great Houses of Morrowind

"If you steal from another Telvanni, but still live, then clearly you deserve whatever you stole. Murdering your opponents by magic or treachery is the traditional way of settling disputes. If you win, then clearly your argument has more merit. You may be expelled as in any other Great House, but most Telvanni will not care or even know about it." - House Telvanni


Membership
For the most part, House Telvanni is open only to Dunmer; other races are only permitted to join as Hirelings. In extremely rare instances, an exceptionally noteworthy individual not of Dunmeri blood may ascend as high as Oathman or Spellwright, but will never achieve the rank of Lawman, Wizard, Mouth, or Master.


Ranks
Ranks are seen as political guidelines within the guild. In traditional Telvanni fashion, you may choose to disregard the hierarchical system altogether and do as you please with no adverse effects. However, if you desire the power and responsibilities provided to those of the higher ranks, you will have to strive to earn them. Any member who doesn't act accordingly with their rank will be demoted and replaced.

Hireling – A trial member or freelance mercenary. This rank tests the character's potential for interacting with the guild.

Retainer – The first official rank of the guild, a Retainer will be expected to assist higher ranks with whatever they require. If a Retainer shows an exceptional eagerness to assist the guild and a respectable amount of hunger for power, that Retainer will be allowed to advance to either Oathman or Spellwright. This is also the rank members fall back down to should they utterly fail in their duties at the higher ranks.

Oathman – This rank is for those who are more physically-inclined than their spell-casting counterparts. Once a member achieves this rank, they will be assigned to a Lawman to report to.

Lawman – For every four Oathmen there is a Lawman to command them. This rank is for those who have risen above the common soldier and shown exceptional leadership skills as well as notable combat prowess. Lawmen report directly to a Master and have the power to promote members up to Oathman.

Mouth – A Mouth is chosen to represent and serve a Master. This rank oversees day-to-day operations within the guild; this means settling disputes, accepting new members, and placing those members. Mouth’s receive a gift from their patron upon their appointment.

Spellwright – The Spellwright is an individual who tends to favor magic over physical aptitude. Every Spellwright is assigned to a Wizard whom which they serve.

Wizard – For every four Spellwrights there is a Wizard to command them. This rank is for those who have shown true intellect and cunning both on and off the battlefield. Wizards report directly to a Master and have the power to promote members up to Spellwright.

Master – Unequivocally dedicated to House Telvanni, a Master commands at least one Lawman and Wizard, and by extension all those who server under them. This rank is earned by those who have risen above even the most extraordinary of members and proven to be a true asset to the guild. Generally, a Master has taken and kept a Keep for a creditable amount of time.

Magister – The ruling hand behind the guild. The Magister is the final escalation when it comes down to important decisions and internal disputes. The Magister is one of many who report to the Archmagister of House Telvanni.


Quests
Members can post quests for others to complete in exchange for items, currency, and disposition. This will act as a type of trade-house to easily exchange goods between members. The Quest Board is found here.
Telvanni Quest Items are the items related to official “House Sanctioned Quests”. These quests are generally given out by Mouths for membership advancement and increase in difficulty based on the desired rank.

Masters are responsible for making sure their Mouths aren’t abusing other members or embezzling Telvanni Quest Items.


Dueling
You may challenge other members of the guild to a duel in exchange for agreed-upon items or ranks. These duels will be overseen by a Mouth, a Master, or the Magister himself, and the aforementioned winnings will be paid to the victor at the time of the completion of the duel. Should the loser decline to make good on their promises, they will be expelled from the guild.


Expulsion
If you have been expelled from House Telvanni, you may write an appeal to one of the Mouths in an attempt to reenter the guild. It is up to that Mouth, and your own ability to plead your case, to decide whether you will be readmitted. If you are deemed worthy of rejoining the House, you must pay a reentrance fee of 1000g (this is to be treated as a Telvanni Quest Item and will be deposited directly into the guild bank). Your rank will start over at hireling, and if you were expelled due to theft, you must also return everything to the victim.


The Mages Guild
Most members of House Telvanni view the Mages Guild as a pedestrian organization filled with no-talent hacks, impotent old blowhards, has-beens, and other assorted conjurors of cheap parlour tricks. Should you join the Mages Guild, you may be subject to insult by other Telvanni wizards, but no other negative repercussions will be had.
