How dark should nights be in your opinion?
No difference to daylight. Same vision, same contrast, darker colours.

The nights are dark. You can´t see everything and the vision gets worser. For better view use torches or Khajiit eyes.

The night is a black vile. Torches and magic light has only little range. The only things that aren´t black are the stars and moons.

It´s always a problem of nights in video games: On the one hand it´s unrealistic if the night is too bright, but on the other hand the game gets unplayable when it´s too dark.

So I let you choose: How dark do you think nights in TESO should be?

Should there be no difference to daylight, except the colours are altered, but the same contrast?

Or do you want Hardcore cannot-see-my-hand-before-my-eyes black void like in Dragon´s Dogma?

realy dark nights.
at least in Cyrodiil.
I can see why it would be REALY inconvenient in a PvE zone. But in a PvP zone it is perfect to create a realy interresting dynamic.

I voted for the second choice. Seems middle ground and for those who don't like it (and aren't blessed with khajiity vision) there is alway your friendly neighborhood contrast slider ... no farther away then your Options button.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

I prefer a little darker, but not so dark that you can't see anything, cause that would just be annoying. There is no way they will have Khajiit be able to see better during the dark though.

Realistic dark nights could easily turn PvE areas into a horror game. Dark nights are dark. Even with a torch you wouldn't be able to see more than a few feet. Possibly interesting for a while, but after that it would probably just be annoying.

Not Set
A little bit darker only. Though I understand (and even enjoy) really black nights, in an MMORPG it would only be an extra hassle, as there would be some way to bypass it internally (like having a flaming torch) which makes it kind of pointless as we'll just be able to see again anyway.

The other thing that makes it bad in an MMORPG is in other people (particularly in pvp) - competitive players will often reduce all settings right down that can cause lag/interfere with their ability to move quickly...and if there is a dark night then these players will just whack up the contrast anyway, so for them there will be no difference (just the game now looks a lot uglier), while others will be effectively gimping themselves vs these people by not doing the same.

I want to see Dark i mean real Dark in the world, where you can see torchlight's or mage-lights in the distances to know that there is a other player in the distances.

I want to see Dark in Cryodiil so larger groups can ambush other people.

True it will be interessting, but like CedarLilly mentioned the contrast slider is an option and this will get used extremly often in pvp ( if it not get must have because evryone uses it) and will ruin this expirience and dynamic. You know if there is an way people will use and probably abuse this way.

It would also be cool to see nothing else but the night sky. I hope the stars and the night sky inlarge will be of a comparable qualitiy to Skyrim. (all the star constalations and birth sings) Also I would like Red mountain as an eerie glowing red mark seen far, far away in the horizon when it´s night. But only in Vvardenfel and the shores of red sea of course.

As close to realistic as possible?

I actually would not mind at all if it were very common to see people walking around with torches or magic users casting some light to see in the darkness. Setting campfires to wait out the dark night perhaps - cooking a meal with your group of adventurers, etc.

I'm with @DeaconX.

There are two giant-ass moons in the sky. I think you'll be fine most of the time.

By arrow. By blade.
By tooth. By claw.
By shock. By frost. By flame.
The Aldmeri Dominion will dominate Tamriel.
Our enemies will fall until the Throne is ours.

I do like the idea of it being realistic lighting , so torches and magic are required whilst traveling at night , you would also have to be more cautious whilst traveling such as sticking to the roads as you don't know whats lurking in the dark...

well considering it will be 4h of day and 4h of night, if they make it too dark, 12h a day you wont be able to play properly.
And as it was stated before there is always the option to go to options and tune with monitor contrast and brightness settings so i dont see the point doing this in PvP.
The best way would be, it will be dark (not too dark) as long as ther no source of light, but with presence of a torch or magelight it should be good enough to see around your self but not the horizon, ofc as long as horizon has no light source.
This is way they should add more light sources, like fire camps or lanterns, that can be set at specific locations.
But they probably ignore all this for the fairness of the game, and only make Dungeons dark enough that you would require somthin like torch, Open World areas will probably haw standard settings.

they did say there were "light" spells that would brighten up dark areas so they could have it decently dark like skyrim.

I couldn't agree with you more, not only would strategies change, I think the cinematic of combat would be amazing, fireballs and perhaps arrows lit on fire flying through the sky.

Just a war scene at night would be good, no matter how you slice it.
