How is your perfect MMORPG?

Hi all,

I started this thread with the intent of finding out what you think should be in the "perfect" MMORPG. There are quite a few great games out there but what do you think they lack or how would you like to improve them?

Personally I love Skyrim and all the mechanics it include, such as stealth, the ability to pick locks and to steal items etc. I have also spent far too much time in Azeroth so now I have high expectations with how the TES series can merge with the more traditional MMORPG aspects.

One thing I hope they include later on is housing. I mean, not only guild houses and stuff like that. I want player created strongholds, towns and villages. Maybe they can be sustained by daily quests and such. There are endless possibilities with this like getting your own household of npc's and town guards. I have seen quite a lot of posts regarding the "closed borders" so why not include the option of raiding the enemys player-towns. I am sure there are tons of cons with this but I think it would be fun and quite time consuming.

A thing about most MMORPGs (or other RPGs aswell) that keeps bothering me is the hero role that I often feel is forced upon me. Like in Skyrim with main quest. Well, why dont you avoid it then, one might ask. I could do that I guess but to be honest, a lot of Skyrims best parts is in the main quest and I wouldnt want to miss out on that. My point is that I hope that there are a lot of things to do in TESO besides being Dragonslayer829, The Immortal Conqueror of all Tamriel and bla bla bla (endless title). Hopefully the exploration, trading and crafting will be fun and time-consuming aswell and that it will take a long time until people will sit idle in some capital on their super epic incredibly rare mount, flashy title and compare achievements.

Enough whining and miss-spelled words. What are your thoughts?

Darius

weapon mechanics will take you quite some time to master. From what I understand you will approximately be able to level 1 weapon to master in the time it takes you to level to level 50. With the capability of utilizing any weapon you will have plenty to do.

For my own experience the plot has to be intense and sucking you in like wormhole because im more PVE guy :) and i don't think this is gona be fail in this game.

For lvling up things like mastering different weapons/skills/crafting is all ways fun to do at the side of your own journey and i hope the crafting is gona be litle bit different from other games... I mean not just grind copper and make weapons... My point is that for making example low lvl axe you should need all material for that item : metal, wood for handle and some leather for grip and so on.... just little bit more specific and when you master some crafting app you could ofc add something special to it.

For PVP that is ofc another big thing in MMO's at least for me... i like to wup wup ppl at arena 1v1 - 3v3 because that is the place where you can test who knows hes/her own char and who not and allso that is the place where you can measurement your own skills so in small words = make it smooth

And one thing what will make GM little bit closer to each other is Guild missions/crafting/exploration and some small thing to do together, not just end game. I hope you get what i mean by this :)

Guild missions would be awesome. Or to be able to create quests for other in general, lets say; I offer XX gold and this shiny axe if you give me 10 wolf pelts. Doesnt have to be too advanced.

@"Darius Warsong" I agree it would be awesome if you could buy and or create your own house to decorate and to put all your stuff in so you won't have to be lugging around a whole bunch of heavy items that probably slow you down.

I don't know about you guys but other MMO games I've played lack in story and the quests are way too easy. I want a good storyline and some interesting quests that keep you busy for a while, otherwise whats the point. Also I wanna be able to choose my own path on how I play (like if I'm evil my path and quests would be different then if i'm good).

I wanna have a challenging PVE experience and a variety in monsters, otherwise it gets boring way too fast.

Also I understand that when TESO first gets released they'll probably have lagging problems because of all the people playing, but I hope that it gets fixed ASAP instead of letting it drag out for days. Nothing is more frustrating then being in battle and getting DC'd or having to wait for forever while something loads.

and one more thing...I am really hoping that they will have variety in weapons and armour so you can customize your character how you like it, instead of seeing clones of yourself wondering around.

Not Set
My list includes:
Cohesive lore, that is approachable, extensive and just exactly leaving a little to the imagination, too.
And above all, a lore that is widely available, through the game, forums and wikias. Whilst I do like reading books and do so quite a lot, I dislike having to buy and read a book in other to understand the setting that I am in. A worst case scenario for lore would be to nudge it along the way of WoW, where everything is a retcon. Nearly everything anyhow.
Then comes a rich character creation, where you can make your character feel unique, with -plenty- of hairstyles, haircolors and quirky options to go about (such as scars, freckles, tattoos - preferably each one should be independent. I have tried before where an awesome scar is tied in with the worst make-up option of the decade)
Options for walking, both mounted and on foot - I love walking/riding about in the world at a slow pace, marveling at the wonderful (or terror-ridden, depends on the location) sights. As well as the animations shouldn't look too strange - no powerstruts or excessive wiggling of hips, please.
I'm a sucker for animations in general, I loved AoC for the amount of emotes they had, like lounging, dangling your feet and leaning on walls. It makes the character come to life. Interactable objects, such as chairs you can sit on, and doors you can open and close makes the world come alive around you.
Proper grounds for roleplay must be in order - Biography/description tags, RP-flags, naming policies, proper chat-box functionality, appropriate /say and /yell ranged, and dedicated roleplay servers would be a must. As well as enough GM's to moderate names, griefing and harrasment - not only on the RP area but on every area.
Combine this with a rich PvE experience that has a tolerable level of repetition and grind, but also challenges you in different ways.
I dislike the sentiment of wanting to re-invent the spoon, I like my holy trinity, I like my 3rd person camera controls, I like my mini-map where it always has been.. And if it must be re-invented, there should be an option to stick with the traditional spoon.
I like when quests have voices, but I dislike having to watch a 5 minute cinematic lead up to killing ten rabbits.
I dislike long quest-texts, and for once I'd love if the world didn't treat me like the one and only, but rather one of many aspiring heroes.
Now that Rift has introduced Dimensions, I'd want it in my perfect MMORPG too, creating my own space is awesome and a step beyond generic housing.
I'd like raids, but all of them should have a ten man version, and there should be dungeons for doing solo or duo which sums up the plots of the raids - so that everyone has a fair chance at following the history evolve.
I'd like pvp battlegrounds that are challenging and encourages people to play with the map, with more than one stragety to win. But I'd also like pvp that's available to casuals, where you can decide yourself if you're good enough to play with the big boys yet. Instead of assuming that when one has reached max rank, one surely must be a pvp-god.
My perfect mmorpg would be mature, but in a respectful way. I do not need to have blood censored away, I do not expect to play the game with my minor siblings.

I'm going to cut off here because I think I could practically go on forever. There's so much to include, so much good and so much bad to avoid.

+1
I agree with you and I believe that Zenimax will give us rich character customization options and good interaction with the enviroment/objects. I mean look what Bethseda did with skyrim and its predecessors in those categories.
