Sordak is someone who would know what good things to read up on as a starter.

Interesting stuff: Stuff about the daedric princes will be useful, especially since the ultimate evil entity in TESO is a daedric prince. Creation myths of the different races can be interesting to look at too. It'll go a long way in giving you insight about why the races feel the way they do.

Two good websites to look at to get your information is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page and http://www.imperial-library.info/

I think to start, you could read this. It's an article by fellow forum member @Reichmar12 that explains the very basics of TES. It's great foundation for newbies to the series, especially since it has so much lore going on and you might get confused if you dive first on into the Elder Scrolls wiki or similar sites.

Once you have read that, you could check out the Imperial Library. It contains all the in-game books of the series. It's a very well organized site, so you can start reading by categories like Daedra, Geography of Tamriel, History, etc., and take it at your own pace.

I hope this helped!

The games would be a great place to start... learn the history as you play, read the in game lore books ect.
or just watch Sordak rant about the lore in the Thu'um box.... he is pretty much the lore-master

Theres a small guide on the official lore forum http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1112211...lore-buff/
It isn't exactly up to date, but good enough.

To get into the more complex matters of Elder Scrolls lore (and with complex I mean things that'll make your head hurt), you'd have to lurk on the official forums for a while. But try to get the basics covered first ;)
