Pictures aren't allowed in the signatures. I hope they never will be either, too distracting ^^.

Yeah, unfortunately some people like to have very large and very colorful pictures in their signatures. It makes it hard to read forums when this starts happening. Even though I had a custom signature made which would be nice to show off, I fully understand (and support) the idea of no pictures in signatures.

I am so happy that I won't see any gaudy 500x500 pictures underneath every post on this site, lol.

I've honestly had mixed feelings about the fact that we aren't allowed to use images as signatures because they are "too distracting" when some of the images that people might use AREN'T.

Personally I think we should be allowed to, but there will be VERY STRICT limitations to what we can have on them, for example:

-A set size that the image can be
-Limiting it to only ONE image
-It's either text or an image, not both
-No gif's, because those are what cause distraction
-Mods can tell you change or remove your picture regardless of what it is. No exceptions. Having images in signatures is privilege.

That's just an example of a very small list of rules that could allow us to use banners as our signatures.
In fact, why not design a page of the website that allows you to create a signature like that to turn it into a picture?

No images in signatures please.

Allowing them but putting restrictions on them just gives the mods one more thing they need to constantly moderate. And with the amount of new members which will sign up leading up to release, it will just get completely out of hand.

I suggest the question be revisited (if it's to be revisited at all) a year or so after TESO has been released and the community has matured.

I'm not really a fan of them myself, but if you need something to dress up why not check out your profile sections and utilize the "about me" area ? You can place images there, that's where I placed my lovely artwork from @Arisen and some faction flare.

There is a couple threads that included pictures in their posts (of course, they were created for the purpose of sharing said photos) where it took a while to scroll through because of the photos' sizes. With the exception of threads where the purpose is to share photos, I think it perfectly fine not to have images in our signatures.

Thank you, @Najla

I wholeheartedly agree that the best place to keep banners or logos should be in the "About Me" section. :)

If anything, I wish we could have a little photo gallery for our profile, as I have seen on some forums.

In all honestly I still believe that pictures being "too distracting" is not an acceptable reason.
With specified limitations such as the size and type of the image, it can be made so that images take up even less room than most of the signature designs that are already in use.

Limiting the size and quality of the pictures is all it would take to ensure that the system doesn't get out of hand. Allowing our community to express themselves using images within their signatures will not only encourage members to spend time working on their accounts, but would also encourage members who are gifted with graphic design to help create signatures for each other. If the system is implemented correctly, the moderators won't even need to look twice to make sure that signatures follow the guidelines that already govern the website.

One perfect example of why somebody would want to use an image for a signature is when they wish to advertise their guild. Rather than handcrafting their own version, guilds could create a banner that all members would use when posting on public forums.
(In fact, this is already being done, but TESOF can't do it!)

Other websites have been able to implement a successful signature design system using images without severely impacting the quality of the conversations, and I refuse to accept this as an excuse unless members of the community or other staff can supply evidence that a system of this nature would not work UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES when implemented on TESOF.

I've spent years as a community manager and, in my opinion and from my observations, text-based signatures are just as effective as graphic signatures in terms of click-throughs. Graphic signatures also increase loading times, distract from post content, and take away from the integrity of site design; As a web designer, that's simply a no-no.

As it's been stated in this topic, images can be placed in your About Me section in your profiles. What this method does is it allows members or guests to click a users profile if they want to learn more about the person. This also helps to bring focus on our profile sections, where we have guestbooks, the about me section, and our [soon] ESO character profiles.

Guild banners can be posted in your guild page, as well as your profile.

I'm all for helping guilds and individuals express themselves, but there's no need to do so in every post as long as we have viewable user profiles available.

If someone wants to show their creativity, they can do so by creating a new topic in our Fan Creations section.

I realize that a lot of forums allow graphic signatures, but I don't conform to a notion because it's commonplace; I do what I believe is best for building a respectable and interactive community.

I hope this clears the issue up a little, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
