I've been struggling with a bit of a moral dilemma lately, and I was hoping you guys could weigh in. It's for a game called Dark Souls (I have it on the xbox360). I've completed the game quite a few times, and want to focus on PvP now. The problem is that whenever I think of a new build, I have to go through a MASSIVE pain in the ass process to make that new PvP character. Sometimes, it simply falls short of what I wanted. My attention has been turned to save editors to save me the trouble of having to play through many hours of tedious gameplay just to make a new character (that might simply fall short of expectations anyway).

Now, I think of myself as a pretty honorable person. I've already told myself that under no circumstances would I create a character that wouldn't be able to naturally exist through normal gameplay. Based on the fact I've already demolished this game quite a few times, I wouldn't make an unobtainable character and I feel like I would probably stop playing sometime soon if I don't start doing this, would you guys consider this "Wrong" , "Not Wrong" (for those that feel it's shady but not necessarily wrong), or "Right"? Please weigh in on this.

Edit: the poll is anonymous, so you can choose whatever you want without fear of being judged by your peers.

There are several games with an enhanced experience by cheating. Like Daggerfall... but enough of that. Aslong you don´t cheat in battle or use it to win, it´s OK. A RP in my opinion that comes with an PvP element, without being a MMO, should have the possibility to create PvP builds after you beat the game, or something like that. Other games have such options, too. Like WOW where you can change your skills and stuff whenever you want.

Funny enough, I pulled out Pokemon Blue some weeks ago. I was like, rush to Zinnober, beat Missingno and multiply rare candy. Well... as soon as I realized what I actually did by bringing all my Pokemons to lvl 70... was to break the game experience for me. I couldn´t train my Pokemons anymore, because they were already Lvl 70, which is fairly high enough to beat the remaining gym, the Top four, the Champion... and catching them all? Impossible, my friend. Impossible.

Anyway.

As you said, you beat the game before and focus now on PvP.

Are you talking about glitch leveling? Or do you mean near unbeatable builds like The Legend?

Neither. I'm using a save file editor to give me stats and weapons and equipment, but nothing "unbeatable". There's a level that's used for PvP (120), and I wouldn't give myself any kind of builds/stats unobtainable with a level 120 character. Basically, all I would be doing is saving myself the trouble of 30+ hours of tedious work.

Ah, I forgot about Dark Souls modding. I say as long as you make a toon like you say it's fine. I know it can take be frustrating to get to 120 and find out your build is horrible, so modding is a good way to avoid that. And I applaud you sir, for modding and not making a flipping havels unkillable except for getting knocked off an edge toon.

I'd maintain it as just working around developer faults.

I had to google the game a bit. Looks like it has 3 modes of play, single player, co-op and online multi-player.

Single player - cheat all you want. Who cares.

Co-Op/ Online Multi-player - Any time you play with others, anything you do that can be considered to be giving yourself the advantage, whether it's paying someone to speed level your character or using external programs to do it, is, in my book, cheating. You are using some sort of exploit to gain an advantage. In this case, time.

Ask yourself these two questions:

1. How would you feel about playing an opponent who has done what you've described you want to do? Would it bother you that they skipped the normal character creation process and used save editors? Do you think it would give them an unfair advantage over you?

2. Would you be willing to tell your opponent how you created your character using the save editors prior to combat?

I don't know from what you described man its fine and personally from my experiences on dark souls if anything you will just even the playing field a multitude of people do worse things on that game then what you are describing. People use all kinds of glitches and builds that basically amount to instant wins so really also remember the community your talking about doing it in.

Cause for example back in halo 1 on the pc if you did not use some sort of mod or glitch or some kind of cheat well you lost no if ands or buts about it. You lost because the other guys did it and you sure as hell had to so again it depends on the community cause some communities kind of prize who can exploit the games the most and view them as the most intelligent player therefore the rightful winner I know that does not sound fun to many, but Battlefield 2 MC and Halo 1 were great examples of exactly that kind of mentality. I think dark souls in a lot of ways is similar hell the game it self is kind of built to be exploited in a way by gather epic powerful items and finding a combination that just decimates to no reason and then exploiting the ever loving shit out of it...so it goes with the territory in my opinion. Now in more competitive games like even though I don't really play it lets say LoL well no cheating is basically blasphemy and would get you instantly banned.

It's fine, as long as the characters you make are naturally obtainable, all you're doing is saving time. I do it with pokemon, I gen all my competitive teams because it's easier than spending like 40+ hours trying to rng a perfect egg.

If it makes the game more fun for you, and if nobody else is affected, there's absolutely no problem whatsoever with it in my view. It's the fun part that's important really. You can make a game less fun by cheating, of course, but usually you'll know best where that line is.

Count only the happy hours.
