Personality - A solitary young man, driven half mad by grief and loneliness. He has no friends but is inherently loyal. He has a soft spot for young children.
Backstory - Katyr was born to a dying woman on the outskirts of Windhelm. He was found crying in the snow next to his deceased mother by a passing Redguard werewolf by the name of Danjou. Feral as he was, and unaware of how to care for a human child, Danjou gifted Katyr with the beast blood and raised him to control his animal urges.
As Katyr grew older, he became curious of other people and the way they lived. For he was growing weary of his daily routine of hunting and sparring with Danjou in secluded areas of the forest. When one day he met a traveler, Katyr was elated. He spoke to the man for hours about hunting and fishing, even asking questions about the other holds. Finally, the man asked Katyr why he would wander the wilds alone at such a young age. It was then that the boy made the biggest mistake of his young life... He told the man he was not alone, that he was a werewolf and never strayed far from his alpha.
It was then that the man drew his silver dagger and backed Katyr up against a tree. Enjoying the fear that instantly swept over the child's face, the man proceeded to carve a series of marks into Katyr's face. Little did he know, the child's screams had alerted Danjou to the trouble. Within seconds, a massive werewolf came charging out of the woods, pouncing upon his charge's attacker. Danjou wasted no time in ending the man's life. Katyr too transformed and fled with his guardian.
That night, Danjou told Katyr of the Silver Hand, the dangers of telling their secret to others, and the evil of mankind. He explained that the Silver Hand were never alone and that more would come looking for the wolf that killed their comrade. Upon finishing his lecture, Danjou sent Katyr to bed inside a fallen tree. Danjou stood watch fifty yards away.
When Katyr awoke at dawn, Danjou was nowhere to be found. He called for the older wolf, but received no reply. After a few minutes of calling, Katyr picked up his guardian's scent and followed it. He walked only ten minutes when he found Danjou's lifeless wolf form near the bodies of three men dressed similarly to the one that had carved his face. Realizing what had happened, Katyr burst into tears and threw himself at the corpses of the werewolf hunters. He lashed out, kicking them, spitting on them, and cursing them. Finally he came to rest on the grass, looking into the peaceful face of his now dead guardian. That day, at the age of eleven, Katyr vowed he would destroy the Silver Hand and any like them.
How He Got His Name - Katyr became known to the Silver Hand as the Ghost, for his stealthy approach and haunting howls. But the name his wolf was given, "The Demon of Windhelm" was another story.
Katyr had tracked a prominent member of the Silver Hand to the city of Windhelm. This particular man was leader of the Windhelm branch of the order, and the one who had finished off Danjou, six years prior. Katyr, overcome with anger and bloodlust, stormed the city in wolf form, neglecting the onslaught of guards, sights set only on the Silver Hand leader. Half the city looked on as the great black beast mauled what they thought was a friendly middle aged adventurer. By the time Katyr had completed his task, his prey was an unrecognizable mass of torn flesh and broken bone. Letting out a howl of victory, Katyr fled the city. Whispers amongst the citizens said it was as though "all the souls of Oblivion had possessed the wolf", that "not even Hircine would be able to rein in that beast". When weeks later Katyr returned as a man, the local beggar woman jabbed her finger at him and told him to "beware the Demon Wolf".
