(( to begin with, both these memories are snippets from the character profile I am working on, which I might or might not post. Knowing myself my profiles tend to always be work in progress. Anyhow, enjoy these little views into my characters memories))

snippet 1 :

...A body was silently laid down on the ground, his throat slit open. The gaze of the killer already searching the camp in front of her, leaving behind the cooling corpse. She crouches down near a tree, watching with fear and anger when a young, naked, woman are being dragged out from a tent and bound on pole. The watcher curse softly as a torch is being held in front of the bound woman, putting the wood at the base of the pole on fire. Silently the watcher moves, climbing up onto a small rock, still hidden in the shadows of the trees. Her eyes takes in the broken and bleeding form of the young woman who is bound, her struggles against the ropes and her frantic cries for help, while those who has abused her laughs and leer at her as she is being burn alive.

The icy blue eyes of the watcher briefly closes, as they open again they are filled with burning fury, deep sorrow and determination. One deep breath and her arrow is nocked against the bow, another breath and she aims, a third breath and the arrow is released. "Forgive me Aria" soft words spoken in the wind as the arrow finds the target, a soft thunk as it is buried into the heart of the young woman, ending her suffering long before the fire would have...

Icy blue eyes snapped open, her breath shallow and fast. Awakening from the nightmare of her memories. Throwing away the blanket she sat up, shaking hands covering the eyes as a whisper broke the silence of the night "Aria"

Snippet 2 :

...the whip lashed against her bare skin, agin and again, she could warm blood drippling down where the skin had broke from the lashes. She cried out in pain and arched as the whip masterfully lashed against a open wound, the chains that held her hands and kept her tied rattled. She could feel the presence of the man near her and she glanced over her shoulder, meeting the skyblue eyes of the one she had once thought was a friend. His cocky smile firmly in place as he ran his hand over her back and further down, he leaned closer and she could feel his breath as he whispered "I will enjoy taming you". He stepped back a little, moving to stand directly behind her, as she heard his belt unbuckle and his pants hit the ground she knew what was coming. She closed her eyes and sent a silent prayer to any deity that would listen, but as his hands took hold of her waist she knew her prayer would be unheard. As the man took what he wanted one thought ran through her mind 'This is not what I wanted my first time to be'...

The glass in her hand were half full as she sat in the corner, a hood shadowing her face and her eyes on a man laughing with his friends. His face and his built having reminded her of one whom she called friend, one that betrayed her. He had died but so had part of her, she had never been able to trust fully again. She drained the ale and stood up, glancing one last time at the laughing man before walking out of the tavern. She knew she would not get any sleep tonight.

Your character is clearly haunted by terrible memories. Though such darker and mature themes are expected in the more grim places of the world. Obviously it's not a pleasant thing, but it helps readers sympathize and understand the viewpoint of your character.

I look forward to seeing more on how she was caught up in these cruel circumstances if you decide to post more snippets or share your character profile!

Thank you :)

These are basically her worst memories, and I worked them into her profile. Knowing myself I will write more, as wel las post it too :) Writing is... a drug in a sense *laughs* I might write these snippets into longer stories, to explain the happenings around and so on, but we will see.

((Here's a couple of good memory snippets, decided it would be nice to even out the bad ones a little :) Enjoy ))

...A young girl was running ahead of a older man, a medium sized fish held in her hand as she laughingly ran into the arms of her father. Her voice excited as she proudly chatted on about how she had caught the fish all by herself. Her father calmly listening to her with amusement in his eyes and when he spoke his voice held warmth, love and pride "All by yourself little one?" the girl nodded and her father shared a smile with the older man who had now caught up with them. "I am proud of you child, go show your fish to grandma". The two men laughed when she ran off, her fish still held tightly in her hand...

A smile lingered on her lips as she watched the fish roast over the campfire, she remembered that day clearly. Her grandfather had taken her with him to fish, it had taken her several tries and many lost fishes before she had finally caught one. For the five year old girl she had been that time, it had been a real adventure.

---

...It was evening and she had just gotten up from a warm bath when a sound made her walk over to her pack, she looked at the clothes that were scattered around the floor even though she knew she had folded them and put them on the saddlebags. When one of the saddlebags suddenly moved she couldn't help but smile, a smile that turned into a soft laughter when the head of a sablecolored young ferret showed up. In his mouth he had half a sweetroll and some of the frosting was sticking on his fur, the ferret froze when he heard her, staring at her with a innocent expression that just made her laugh more...

Her gaze fell on the ferret that were sleeping soundly next to her wolf, that little rascal had brought her many laughs over the two years he had been in her company. She leaned forward and gently caressed the two companions, the wolf rumbled softly and licked her hand while the ferret kept sleeping.

Well done. I like how the good memories are simple yet one can tell why they're remembered so well. Small things like appreciation and companionship are often remembered fondly!

It's nice to see two sides of a story (or in this case a memory), as the good and bad contrast each other so their positive and negative aspects seem even greater.

At least that's a random theory I have in my head. I think it sort of makes sense...

((A few more childhood memories of hers, this time regarding music))

She pulled out the leather cord from within her shirt, a songstone hanging from it and Kaz smiled softly, her eyes on the instrument as her memories took a jump back in time.

... Song and music filled the room where they sat around the fireplace on a big bearskin pelt, a four year old child in her fathers lap as he played a small instrument. Her grandfather playing on a wooden flute while her gandmother took up a old lullaby. The child rested against her fathers chest as she let her voice join with her grandmother as best as she could, the two were soon joined by the deep baritone of her grandfather. The young child soon stopped singing and her eyes closed as she let the tune from the songstone, and the alt and bariton song of her grandparents follow her into sleep...

she raised the songstone to her lips and soon the old lullaby tune drifted around the campsite, she remembered the nights her father had played for her to get her to sleep. And the times when the family had gotten together to play and sing, the times when she and her father had sat together around a campfire during one of their many times out in the wild. And than there were the times he had played a catchy tune to lighten her mood, another time long gone drifted by and she let herself be caught in the memory.

... They had never been rich in money, even though they always had enough to get by. Which often meant that birthday gifts were something practical, most often clothes like the warm wintercloak Kaz had gotten when she turned five. So when Kaz woke that morning on her sixth birthday she had not expected to be given something less practical, she was soon to find that this year would be different. Her eyes found the small gift on her table beside the bed and she reached for it, her head tilted a little as surprise and curiosity could be seen on her face. Reading her fathers near unreadable script made her laugh before she carefully started to unwrap the gift. Her eyes widened as she looked at the seablue ceramic songstone, a leaf surrounded by runes were patterned in the middle of it. Kaz held the songstone with wide eyes, her hand shaking slightly before she ran from the room. She was met with the smiling face of her father just before she reached the kitchen, his blue eyes proud as he embraced her. "Thank you, thank you so much" her voice low and filled with emotion as she still held the songstone as if it was the a treasure, which it was for her. "You never ask for much child and we wanted to give you something special this year. Starting tonight, I will teach you to play. Now run along and have breakfast"...

The lullaby tune drifted off and Kaz watched the songstone for a moment, a glint of amusement ran through her eyes as she lifted it to her lips again. The tune that drifted out were a catchy and happy one.

Quite a warming time to remember! I like how something simple such as a songstone can have such a strong sentimental value, even if it's not a weapon or piece of armor as is common in these sort of fantasy type settings. Admittedly I didn't exactly know what a songstone was until Google came running to my aid; but now I can picture how delicate and charming it might be.
