I can see one possible problem with this if a village is attacked by monsters or raids and all around the place you see dead defenders and villagers will you see dead children not to be morbid but I to have all these kids running around in areas of danger where as a player I would have to watch my back I think thats why they really don't include children in the game No body wants to find a child's body while adventuring or hunting a predator whose been attacking the village and your hired to dispatch it.

Though I'd really like to see the other races as Children and see how they interact with the races culture and what there jobs are.

How is it an overkill? Its a cool mechanic its unique . Its not too hard. I'd also some kids to be thiefs like sometimes if your AFK in a part of town that there isin't too many people there a the kid will go behind you and steal 1-5 septims . Then for a while when you would talk too him the kid would studder and be scared thinking you found out. but if a guard or his parents sees the kid doing it they will give you back your cash.

You underestimate how long it takes to make a game as ambitious as this without even adding non-combat NPCs. It's hard to appreciate that if you haven't seen or been a part of a project on the same scale. I assume you will want this new kid NPCs to be unique, finding copy-cat NPCs is annoying in any game, making for a monumental amount of work. Thats just assuming you want basic NPCs with no fancy functions. WITH the new functions you just stated, well, let's just say release date gets pushed back 5 months, minimum. (Debateable, but do note the proposed function forces edits to severeal NPCs excluding the as yet inexistent Kid)

You have to understand that the developers have deadlines, and a budget. Time really is money and the more time they spend on it the more it costs. Take Skyrim for example, if you've ever felt incomplete when finishing a quest or going through the interface it's because the game was left incomplete. The devs ran out of time and were forced to produce a finished product of what was still a work in progress. It turned out great, but there was so much more there. I've got a lot of technical references about this, if anyone wants the specifics PM me.

In short, it's a lot of work with little return. The player will see it as a nifty little distraction once in a while but will probably be sick of it the third time it happens.

Kids are a must. They should be of all races too, varying in number depending on location. These entirely new mechanics though aren't even on their to-do list and I can't say I disagree with that.

I have to agree with WolowD. Yes, it would be a cool mechanic but it would take a lot of time and money. They could be spending that time on improving it and polishing the game. Anyway, we survived all the other elder scrolls games without children.

I guess if they add kids, then sure, cool. But if they don't, we have nothing to moan about.

Lol a Kids system... the ideas these days.

Like people have said above, having child NPcs running around in certain towns is cool and adds immersion but that is it, no kids system, they have a game to make with actuall important stuff. This is no The Sims.

i thought you couldn't kill NPC's... and sorry but no player housing. Imagine all these people who play want a house, they couldn't do it. there wouldn't be enough room for everyone. :/

I was playing a game the other day and I came accross a bunch of baby skeletons... I think I was playing Skyrim but I'm not sure. I also have my game modded so theres that.
And I have a mod for interesting NPCs and I had a child in Riften steal some money from me. Then I gave her a lecture and found out her parents were dead and she lives alone. It was an intense experience.

Having a child die is one of the great taboos of game development. There are VERY violent games (such as Fallout and Skyrim) where you could kill in rather grotesque ways yet the children are magically completely immune. Old skeletons are one thing, but having the child actually die in front of you due to some act of cruelty is one of those things that makes a game an almost instant Adult Only rating since a child dying goes against the very core of what should be right in the world. Basically, any children you might see will be almost guaranteed to be out of combat zones.
