Hi, I'd just like to get your opinions on if a pure mage (no sword wielding) wore medium or even heavy armor, armor that thieves (former) and warriors (latter) generally wear. I was hoping to set up a dark elf mage with stealth elements that wore robes, but the robes i've seen aren't my (or my characters) type of style. I mean I guess its possible there will be a set of robes I like the look of but the shots I've seen of them all remind of old creepy wizard rather than badass mage.

If you do not wear cloth armor, you will not be a pure mage. Remember that Light/Medium/Heavy armor are essentially tied to Magicka/Stamina/Health, so if you do not wear light armor, you will find yourself with a much smaller magicka pool and magicka regen with which to cast.

I wrote an article that gave a pretty in-depth explanation of the build creating process and its elements that you can find here.

As an aside, judging the style of all light armors because of what the starting gear looks like is not wise.

If you pick heavy armour or medium armour then it sounds like you would be playing some type of hybrid. Not to say you couldn't have a fully functional magical sorcerer wearing heavy armour.....you'd just hafta slot your skill points into mana every single time like crazy and maybe enchant your armour to add mana. But most likely wearing anything other than light armour would probably lead to not just using magic. Not that that's a bad thing.

Well it's been stated that you can mix and math armor, so maybe you can get a small magic benefit from some light armor while wearing heavy armor to boost health and look cool. You'll probably need to enchant that armor for more magicka but I think you can do it...

I don't see why this would be a problem at all. All that would happen is that you sacrifice some DPS and/or your mana pool for some defense. Simple as that.

I gave it a read-through. Looks pretty good!

In Morrowind (ahhh the good ole days!) everybody wore, not only clothing OR armor; but clothing UNDER armor in addition to 2 rings, amulet, bracelets. So there was PLENTY of opportunity to enchant every peice of attire that you wore. Mages had it best of all, because they could wear underclothing, armor and then a robe over the armor - all enchanted. Regular classes who didn't wear a robe over armor could wear a cloak or cape, especially there were good mods made for those.

Not saying that TESO is going to bring back all of that extensive wardrobe for a player, but they do say that in TESO you can mix and match and pretty much customize your class by what you wear, use as weapons and what skills you put on your skill bar and train. So, like v v v2, I see no problem with your build if you want to wear heavy armor - enchant it for magicka - and use traditional mage staff, wand, spells, etc. Technically you might be building yourself into a BattleMage but not really because you won't be using traditional battle weapons .. but if it suits you, what's in a title anyway? That's for those who wish they were you.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

Thanks to all who've answered, I think I'm gonna stick with robes then and maybe use bits of armor like hybrid until I find some badass robes of magic and stuffs so
