I posted a similar topic called "crime" but wanted to go more in depth, however idk if this breaks the NDA so I'll ask and if it does someone please let me know. Anyway I was wondering if you can kill like random citizens and such, after I completed all the quests I could find in skyrim and oblivion I went around RP'ing as a serial killer, I would kill one person from each settlement once a week, and set them in a certain way and placing objects next to them to get the ritualistic kill I was RP'ing for. Due to the fact that this will be an MMO will there be certain NPCs you can do this with? Or are you restricted to only killing enemies. (Outside of the DB quest lines)

As of right now you can't kill random people. Though I'm not sure how much that's going to change when they release the crime system.

Maybe they will release random weaklings that can be killed?

It's possible they may allow random citizen NPC's to be murdered and just respawn them inside houses we cannot enter. It's not a bad idea, and may put like a bounty on your head, though all that might do is make guards automatically arrest you (no option to kill them), in order to avoid limiting player freedom (if you end up avoiding major cities because you're scared the guards will kill you would be a problem in an MMO)

Fight for something to die for, because living for nothing really isn't worth it.

It's not likely since it deviate's too much from the ideal RPers expectations. To have a player kill an NPC just so that NPC can respawn like nothing happened seems absurd from an RP perspective. The only exception to this is if randomly generated, yet always unique NPC's spawn and could be killed if a player chooses to. I think in the eyes of the developers, their efforts are better spent elsewhere. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing this mechanic I can't see it taking priority anytime soon

I think UO was the last mmo that you could literally kill every single npc's in the game at one point of time. Guards would spawn and kill you if you attacked npc's in guard zones, but you could attack them. Outside of guard zones every single thing and npc was killable.

I doubt such thing will be possible in eso. If there was open world pvp maybe they would let us go to enemy faction areas and kill other faction npcs, but since there isn't, I don't think they will let you kill people from your own faction zone.

They should add little random towns specifically for murderous fun, obviously not at launch but it'd be a nice update.

Best topic title I've seen here.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind having killable NPC's in the game. It would stave off boredom when I don't feel like adventuring or exploring (which is usually never)
I remember years of killing Gamon in WoW. Those were good times, and it would be tons of fun for ESO to have it's own Gamon's.

sorry for necro, but I just had a thought. Since they have the different states of areas for different people depending on how far you are or what you've done, why don't they do that with npc's too? So if I decide to shank Faendal, he dies for me but not for others. that way theres still murder and fun, and noone can troll-kill your npc's.

Which is more difficult: To do as you wish? Or to have power and choose not to?

I think that if you join the DB that you'd have an instance where you'd murder someone but it would not effect towns in the area.

It would work quite well with a reputation system... I remember playing EQOA, and many of us would go around killing guards upon hitting Lv.50 just for vengeance. Hell, one time I managed to crash the entire server just by killing an NPC I wasn't supposed to for a mission.

This thread remindes me of an old PC Gamer article I came across a couple of years ago back when Skyrim's Hearthfire
was released. After a bit of a search I found it again.
