Hey everyone,

As you all can read on my profile, I joined this site at the end of last year, but I didn't start posting until late January. I noticed there was a thread for Roleplaying, and I got excited because I never really experienced Roleplaying. I thought it was a great opportunity to become a lot more creative and interact with fellow RPers. I also thought that it was going to help my writing skills, because I wanted to get into writing.

My experiences in RPing just started and I have to IMO it is not easy. The rules of RPing is very simple: You can't control other peoples characters, the person who is in charge of the RP have set rules for that RP that you should follow, Respect other RPers and their characters, Can't kill off other peoples character without notice or approval, and etc.

Common Issues I have while RPING:

Quality Post:The rules of Roleplaying are not the hard part, but rather posting period is the hard part, if you know what I mean. I come across problems where I do not make quality post when I am posting. I see other people write three or four paragraphs in a post, and then I would respond with a sentence or two.

Hesitation:Often at times, people would make a post that I am not 100% sure that I should respond to. This happens to me a lot in the Dark Brotherhood thieves Guid RP. The scenes changes from thieves guild to Dark brotherhood and I never know a good time to post, so I can switch it back to the thieves guild. I would wait for their Conversations to stop, and when it is time for us Thieves guild members to talk, I forget...

Interruption:This really correlates with hesitation. When someone starts talking to my character. I am often too caught up on posting the right thing, I end up posting something really late and when that happens it's embarrassing. I also don't like being that person interrupting some one in the middle of their conversation. This is now happening in the Magic Academy RP.

Character Bios:Roleplaying (IMO)is very similar to Fiction writing, which I really want to get into. One of the simplest things in making a character is following the lore. It's something that people try to strive for and I am one of the people. My issue when I make my character bio is basically this. DETAIL! I feel like it is hard for me to be very descriptive towards my character. I always want my character bios to be perfect and so well thought out, but I rarely complete my Character Bios.

Distraction/Focus: I have already been over this in a different thread( Hobado's Confessions) and even though most of the stuff in that thread was me writing without thinking, the comment I said about what happens when I try to finish my Narella bio was true. Distraction and focusing on the wrong things get the best of me.

All of these issues I have will not prevent me from Rping, but those are just things I realize that annoy the crap out of me.

I have been looking online for some tips on fiction writing that actually might be beneficial to you guys as it is to me.

I was reading an article (101 of the Best Fan Fiction Writing Tips) and it said a lot of useful things but a few tips really caught my attention.

I'll just list three of them.

"Filter words" this was something that I was not aware of and I happen to do this a lot. for example:

(with filter phrase)"Lyihna realized that she was in trouble"
without filter phrase)"Lyhina was in trouble"

"Five building blocks for your Character" by Mark Nichol...
This is something that really caught my attention. I always want my character to be flushed out. This is great advice that could really help build your character.

"Childhood"
"Relationships"
"Livelihood"
"Pastimes"
"Outlook"
details can be found at Daily writing tips.com (great website by the way).

"Don't care too much about what others think of you writing. You'll always have fans and foes." Stephen King's Top 7 tips for Becoming a better writer.

Now this advice is more geared towards people fiction writing than roleplaying, but I do think it is very helpful because I am very mindful, and insecure about what people think of my post.

Like a said I am new to RPing so most of the tips in the article are for beginner writers like me, which could help you in your Rping.

I hoped you enjoy reading this and I would really like to see what you guys have to say. :)

The Hesitation in DB/TG, switch back to TG whenever you want.

Is this going to be your RP confession?

There's really no need to feel insecure when you RP. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to RP, sure it's only natural to be tense or insecure in some RP scenarios but no one has a right to judge you for how you write.

As Ri said, just write when you've finished. You have to see i tlike this:

We read what you write, but our characters won't. They only see and hear what a person next to them is saying =) So don't be afraid or nervous as there is no "wrong" time to post. =) If your response to somtheing is ready, post it. =)

I am new to RPing too, but I take it easy. It's just a game and I try my best and if someone is offended or says my post was unnecessary or stupid, I take that critic and learn. And I have a tip for becoming a better writer too:

MAKE MISTAKES!!!! Just make them. You will see how much you will learn! That I've learned in an online thread for amateur writers =)

Two arrows in the air
Two arrows leaving lair

Two arrows to find their way
Two arrows to let them pray

Two arrows bringing death
Two arrows with every breath
