I thought my graphics card was dying and ordered a new one. Unfortunately 2 hours after I placed the order a burning plastic smell started wafting up from the motherboard so the computer is toast since I have no intention of replacing that major of a part. Still have no clue what happened since I just checked the fans and dusted in there a few days ago and everything was working. Anyway Amazon is too darn efficient I tried to cancel within 4 hours of the initial order and they had already mailed the card. New computer comes with 400 watt power supply and a GT 640 2GB card. The card I ordered is a 750TI card also 2GB. The 750 should be bit faster and has newer technology but from what I understand it isn't a huge performance boost. I'm not super knowledgable about graphics cards so could use real input in case I misunderstood the comparison. Would you return the card or upgrade the new computer? Money is tight I could use that $150 but it isn't going to financially break me if I don't return the card.

My advice would be to throw both cards out and get titans ;D

I kid, I kid (or do I). From what I can gather, 640's will still be good to serve most applications, though I think just to stay a little above the power curve, keeping the 750TI will prove to be a good investment for the future. If money is that tight tho, then I don't see any reason to put yourself in a bind for a newer graphics card, so ya.

I would love a high end rig and graphics card but I had to stay under $800. The only games I play are Elder Scrolls and Sims and currently am sick of Sims and haven't played in months. I may pick up some newer gaming titles eventually. I have been eyeballing the new Witcher game because I am addicted to open world, sand box type games. I think I will test the new computer as is for now. Thanks for confirming my opinion. I know enough about computers to get by but don't do great when things get too technical.

Whatever you are going to do, that PSU will not do, it's not enough power to run the components efficiently. Never skimp on the PSU, that is probably why your last board fried.

Last PSU was a 700 watt corsair with a single HD 5770 graphics card so was actually over kill for my needs. This computer I ordered is prebuilt and has excellent reviews from 2 different websites so I should be okay but I will crack the case and double check when I receive it Tuesday. I am capable of doing minor computer repairs and have replaced a PSU successfully although I did go overboard when I selected the last PSU. Smiling
