Prologue

"You wish to be a Skald, my son? Then you must not only hear, but to learn. Ancient craft that could not only move mountains, but to sway and stir the hearts of all men, and to break the fame of kings. You got a fine voice for such a small lad, I hope your memory will match it. As a Skald should not only remember of the legends and tales, his voice should bring them alive! Can you surpass that Nehemia? Can you fulfill your destiny as a true Skald?"

Those words of my father echoed in my mind as four men were carrying me, not for the sake of honoring me though, I wish they did. But indeed, they were carrying me outside, the door opened in front of me as I flew like an eagle from the hands of the men, through the door of Bards College, straight into a pile of cow's dung. Who let a cow take a shit in middle of the road? Pestering Solitude farm men. "We wish you well in your endeavors, Skald Prince." Those words I heard above the laughter of the men who mocked me as the door closed behind me. A Prince? Not a title pompous enough! I do admit going a bit overboard by calling meself the Emperor of Skalds, but a Skald without a title to match his mastery is no Skald at all. Who would have thought that taking nine-hundred and ten steps, exactly nine-hundred and ten steps wouldn't help me to get into the bards college? A lucky number after all.

It was difficult to see when the smell of shit irritated ones eyes. But by Shor did I find a well fast to clean this filth of my face and body. It was already getting dark, and I was cold, wet and humiliated. Glad I am to know the location of the most fine inn in the town. Born of a Serpent, either blessed or cursed, I think both. I had gambled all my gold, couldn't even afford good mead. So in the inn, I sang, and oh was it a glorious verse! Supposedly so glorious that the inn keeper paid for my drinks and gave me a warm bed if I just stopped singing. I guess the whole inn was getting swayed by finest of my voice!

As I laid on the bed and rested my tired eyes (and my silver tongue) I quickly fell a sleep. It was the same dream, I observed the fool as he became clever. I witnessed the most powerful of magic talk, undone wasn't the doom. Then me, shouting, speaking of tongues so powerful even the Merry Eyesore the Elk bowed before me. Them men laughing. "The Skald Prince!" A title of mockery, nothing more! But I will show them, and then shall all the world see!

Oh why cannot these dreams last so long they become reality? I woke up with hunger and hangover, no gold in my pocket, no breakfast in bed. No second or third breakfast in bed.. No spell to remove the bounding pain of the hammer. I had to sell my other axe, I kept my lucky one. Did I devour platefuls of food as the old Ald devours all! With stomach full I ought to return home, a long journey ahead of me, yes. But I bet this will be the journey that matters.

Chapter I

Where am I headed? That I don't know, stars to be guide of my fate in front of this grand guided adventure. Do snow whales still sing above the mountain clouds? Where'd gone the...

Nehemia raised his gaze towards the morning sky, beneath the glimmering rays of the morning sun that is who he saw; the bull of the northern clouds, in search of her, the maiden of beloved Tava. Who'm all men know to be alright from time to time. With a broad smile he grabbed his axe and struck its edge to a small beginning of a tree. One by one he cut the branches of the twig. After knocking the wood on the ground few times to make sure its sturdy, he joyed of his new walking cane.

With glimmering eyes he now knew, South is to be his destination. Days or nights, he'll be finding what he is looking for. With large footsteps he began his stride in the beauty of dawn. He basically half sprinted downhill as his footsteps became to grow larger and larger, and with occasional bursts of laugh he sang on the run. Something he had made up himself long past as a child.

Oh well,
honor for all,
together as we ride.

Not for gold and all,
but for an adventure small,
as the fate combine.

To seek small,
will find it all,
good deeds bring smile.

Oh well,
no matter at all,
travel with smiles broad and wide

Then it hits, his right foot met the grace of solid stone. Nehemia tumbled and rolled downhill with the force of a orgrim. Not too long the rolling had stopped, and there he was. Flat on the ground like the last leaves of autumn, whimpering.

After he had managed to raise himself in a seated position, he stared at the approaching man with curious intent. It was an Old Man who's humming voice was as deep as the grandest cracks in the earth, its electricity of thunderstorm and echo of eternity. The Old Man stopped to stare at Nehemia for a while, and then continued his way. But Nehemia had realized the voice, it is of tongues. . He stood up and ran beside the Old Man. Question after question, Nehemia's intent became clearer and more obvious to the Old Man, who'm agreed to share his knowledge.

I like how in the beginning of this story, with the prologue and first chapter; things appear hopeful, spiteful, and bleak all at once. It's a mixture of trying to look ahead to a better future while things currently aren't going so well. The fact that he maintains his enthusiasm and drive speaks a lot for the character in an indirect way.

Would this be a new version of Nehemia? Or some alternate character or persona of your previous writings?

Character Profiles:
Endaros Ilmori - Buoyant Armiger
Sunrio - Aldmeri Justiciar

Taren Jucanis - Imperial Deserter (Used for The Black Shroud RP)

@"Horizon Seeker" This is actually the Nehemia started from scratch, as the Nehemia of my previous writings doesn't fit to our new guild project. I've written this guy a small character bio at: http://www.tesof.com/topic-nehemia-the-s...skaalbjorn

And you're dead on with the enthusiasm & whats the role of his drive in the story.
