The Nightblade class was announced yesterday, though there was not any additional information on it. This is just a discussion area for what people think the class might be (i.e. what abilities they have, what role they will play, etc.) The Nightblade is not a new class to the TES series, so I will post the stats on them from Oblivion:

Nightblade

Spell and shadow are their friends. By darkness they move with haste, casting magic to benefit their circumstances.

Specialization: Magic

Attributes: Speed, Willpower

Skills:
Acrobatics
Alteration
Athletics
Blade
Destruction
Light Armor
Restoration

Obviously some of the Oblivion stuff is obsolete now, such as acrobatics, athletics and the attributes. Right now if I had to choose a class, the nightblade sounds pretty awesome. I'm interested to see how ZOS updates the class. Hopefully we will know more after PAX. What does everyone else think of the new class?

its gonna be the kids class.
has the name "night" in it.

In all seriousness its going to be a stealth focused class from what we can tell.
I guess there could be some interresting things.
It realy depends on their idea of player involvement. If they push the illusion magic (yes i am aware there will not be traditional schools) they could go into GW2 mesmer territory.

The worst case would probably be them beeing an equivalent of WoWs rogue.

If you gonna say Nightblade is gonna be a kids class cause of the name, then same with Dragonknight.

I think Nightblades will for the most part split into 2 sub classes. A rogue that uses daggers/stealth like normal rogues. Or a rogue that uses magic which will require more skill most likely. You may also see Nightblades using bows instead of daggers.

Im guessing this will be the main starting point class for 2 type of builds and will favor these 2 builds more than the other starting classes

Assasin (heavy opening suprise damage and burst damage)
(probably favor positional attacks and flanking)
(will probably favor poisons and stealth more than other classes)

Archer (crit shot and opening burst damage)
(favor stealth and agile move /escape abilities)

Now every class can go these routes but i feel that the Night Blade will bring abilies i mentioned in ( ) to be a more refined certain type of these 2 play styles Now if you compared the Dragon Knight to these 2 rolls I feel the Assasin would be more sustained damage and less heavy openeing damage. More of a toe to toe fighter. The Archer would be more sustained damage, more tankish but less mobile for hit and runs

Without evil, we would not recognize good.

Remember, true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity

I could imagine ZOS combining those two builds into one physical damage tree. The nightblade (in past games) has relied a lot on magic damage, so I think that would cover another tree. Perhaps the third would be some sort of healing/cc/mobility tree?

I was already going to play a class similar to this one before it was announced, it's the way I play in all games. Stealthily.

The two worst strategic mistakes to make are acting prematurely and letting an opportunity slip; to avoid this, the warrior treats each situation as if it were unique and never resorts to formula, recipes or other people's opinions.

:S You might see any class use bow, not only Nightblades

But i think it will be close to: Boost your weapons with magical properties. Stealth casting *pray* stealth magical cirts, which would be Great.
and finally somthin close to pure stealth rogue. We know every class will haw 3 different Skill tree he or she can focus in.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone else has been saying. We already got our mages and tanks and healers, here where are our sneaky knife and bow people? I'm not too sure about them being very skilled in magic, unless it's illusion or they have bonus enchanting perks.

The background of a Nightblade:

Nightblades are spellcasters who use their magics to enhance mobility, concealment, and stealthy close combat. They have a sinister reputation, since many nightblades are thieves, enforcers, assassins, or covert agents.

So I'm guessing a buff skill line, spell casting skill line and physical combat skill line.

I hope Nightblade will be able to embody aspects of the Ranger archetype. I'd love to see a skill line devoted to traps/bleeds/venoms/etc. Thats my only wish because otherwise I'm not quite sure what class is even appropriate for how I'd like to play...

Class dont dictates the way you play the game, you can play and never lvl single class skill at all. You should think more of "utility" spells, then class spells.
WE still dont know much about how will Fighter guild Skill line and Mage guild skill line looks like, and there is also Thief and Brotherhood to be looked forward too.

Zenimax will probably have alternate classes which are like the standard DPS, tank, and healer but with a spin on them. Nightblade with be stealthy with a spin on the DPS or healer probably. Could be a spin off of the tank too but that's really not likely given the name. My reasoning is that ZOS wants to eliminate the trinity. To do this they need to divide the 3 classes into 6. So there should be two healer classes that are distinctly different from each other.

Guess I must be a kid because I'm planning on making a dragon knight and a night blade.
If Night blade's have a gap closer and spells/abilities w/e to blow something squishy up I will be more than happy with them. I wont even care what they get with sneak as I'll probably be following the tank in, blowing up a high priority target and then dying.
