Quoted:

"Game play changes have to be made – you can move the camera to first-person in ESO, but you won’t see your hands or weapons as in previous games, and the realistic visuals have been dropped – and in an MMO space, you might be sharing the role of hero with hundreds, if not thousands of other players."

The quote states "realistic visuals have been dropped" does that mean they are watering down the graphics as well?

I think there should be the option for playing in first person for the players who just want to play the game solo and have the ability to go to third person when they want to hop into third person. And for the watered down graphics I am not sure what that means but I truly hope the graphics are amazing because that would add to the game greatly and allow for players to play longer and not phase out and stop playing the game.

The game is going to give the chance to those who have an about 5 year old PC to play without annoying lags or something like this.
Taking this into consideration, the graphics will get watered down for sure, as in Skyrim you got to own a PC with newer gear than a 5 year old PC would have.

The graphics honestly from what I have seen do the series justice and are quite nice they are kind of a cross more detailed and smooth than oblivion but much more colorful and cartoony than skyrim. Compromises have to be made and graphical updates and improvements can always be made later down the line.

I've seen a lot of people saying that the graphics are better than Skyrim's (people who played the Alpha preview - I should clarify). I personally didn't think Skyrim's graphics were that great, but still.

Honestly though, they're different styles of graphics - so the comparison is really hard to make.

Yea that's how I feel honestly. Skyrim was really nice looking but some of the facial stuff bothered me especailly how ugly they make bosmer and dunmer. Though I must say argonians and khajiits looked the best they ever have.

MMO graphics do need to be somewhat "watered-down" to a small degree. With hundreds of players running around the same areas, you simply can't have a game that is particularly demanding visually simply because there are so many other elements to dynamically load constantly. It's no coincidence that the MMO's that have been visually pretty good over the years have had rather small instanced zones with low player caps.

In terms of first-person, it's just not that viable. If the game had been designed for first-person it's a different story - but why take the time creating extra visuals, animations, and programming for something that gives the player a disadvantage at this point? Besides, the game might simply not look good from first-person since it has been designed around third-person. For example, imagine WoW in first person...even with the ability to see your weapons and hands, it just wouldn't look or play properly. I imagine TESO may have the same fate in that regard.

Yea, we've been down this road, the graphis are better than skyrim, save for the character models, which have to be watered down a bit in order to fit 200 people on screen without lag.

Graphics do not make a game. To me Super Mario Bros on NES still has good graphics. As long as I can tell what things are and what they are doing then the graphics are good. And all the screenshots I've seen show the graphics to be better than WoW. . .I don't understand why people are talking about the graphics.

To me, Skyrim would have been just as amazing of an experience if the game used Daggerfall's graphics. What truly matters are the gameplay and story.

Skip to 30 minutes. They pick up on the quote and skipping forward a little past the first person talk (44 minutes) you can hear some more about visuals.

I have to agree with this to be fare. I thought the actual graphics of Skyrim without any mods were good nice but not great. It is hard to compare because some RPG games are not open world like Skyrim.

Let's take The Witcher 2 on the PC, those graphics are right up their and i actually think the Red in house engine that they built is one of the best there is.

As for TESO being a MMO, i think the game will look okay. Some MMO look great, Tera, AOC and then you have ArcheAge using CryEngine3.

It can be done.

I think this point is very true as if you want to play solo and have the experience it has to be in first person view. Otherwise it wouldn't have the proper feel.

Their are only two MMO's that i've played where you can see your hands in 3PV. One of these MMO's only has 3PV as an option, meaning you can only play the game in 3PV.
