Order of the Black Worm

"There's an old saying that when opposing the Necromancers; you fear what comes after death more than death itself. They are dangerous wizards, and it is best that the virtuous have little to do with them."

[Image: 44px-T_letter.png]he Cult of Necromancers known as the Order of the Black Worm is a dark mirror of the Mages Guild, twisted and depraved witches and wizards who delve into the most corruptive and forbidden of spells. The Order formed and grew when the Altmer Psijic, Mannimarco arrived on the mainland, bringing with him knowledge of the wicked practice of Necromancy. From there, he gathered followers of like minded magicka wielders to expand and study this revolutionary school of magic, whose dark secrets whispered of forbidden power and even immortality.

After leaving the Mages Guild he had founded, Vanus Galerion, a Psijic student who had seen the spread of his former friend's dark influence, gathered a force of Mages and Lamp Knights and headed into the mountains to confront Mannimarco and his followers. Both sides engaged in a great battle, and in the end it appeared as though Mannimarco was destroyed and his followers scattered. Galerion too, had fallen in the conflict, but the Mages departed believing themselves the victors.

Now, almost three hundred years later, the Worm King has returned more powerful than ever, and the Necromancers have answered his call. Securing an alliance with the Tharns that allows him to practice his foul arts on imperial dead, as well as a sinister pact with the Daedric prince of domination, Molag Bal, the Order of the Black Worm has quickly ascended to prominence and power, and continues the foul bidding of their master. Spread throughout Tamriel and working in secret far from prying eyes, they plot and perform their corrupting magic.

Unlike the Mages Guild, they are devoted to a singular cause. But despite horror stories to the contrary, no one knows what this cause may be. Their goals and their activities are whispered about, but no one but a Necromancer knows for certain what they are...

Information

[Image: 44px-T_letter.png]he Order of the Black Worm is a secretive Cabal of Necromancers that operates throughout Tamriel, working on the research, practice and advancement of Necromancy, as well as carrying out tasks set to them by their master, the King of Worms. In addition to being dangerous magicka users, their craft has also forced them to become masters of deception, with many leading seemingly normal lives amongst the general populace, or even gaining positions of political authority to further their goals. While the Order is spread throughout Tamriel, this guild will focus on the activities of the coven operating in the wilds of High Rock. The Order's foul activites will include, but by no means be limited to: infiltration of towns and communities, exhuming bodies of graveyards for experimentation, capturing victims for experimentation, necromantic research and discussion & political manipulation.

The Order of the Black Worm aims to provide a more sinister tone to RP within the Daggerfall Covenant, acting as a mysterious force exercising political intrigue throughout High Rock's towns and cities, antagonist for those that are foolish enough to wander the wilds unprepared, and sanctuary for Necromancers and dark witches and wizards who have grown disillusioned with the bureaucratic restrictions of the Mages Guild. Within the Order of the Black Worm they are free to explore the most depraved and dangerous of magical activities, provided that they will in some way further the knowledge of Necromancy and Mannimarco's influence. While its members true activities may lie in secluded caverns and dark, ruinous forts, they will be encouraged to assume (or in many cases, continue) identities in High Rock's communities, to watch their enemies -- and victims -- closely...

In addition to RP, the guild aims to take full advantage of The Elder Scrolls Online's content, exploring its vast and rich world, and sampling both PvE and PvP with its members. Despite the darker and more mature themes the guild aims to encapsulate in character, a lighter hearted, more connected community out of character amongst its members is what we aim to achieve. As an antagonistic organisation, it is also important to foster trust and communication within the greater Elder Scrolls Online RP community to avoid drama and disaster, and that participants can get the most enjoyment (and terror) out of their events with us!

When a member is banished from the Cabal they will be demoted to a probationary rank within the guild and excluded from the Cabal's resources and locations until they are able to redeem themselves by completing a task set to them by the leadership. All IC rules barring the first and second can have exceptions if sanctioned by the Cabal leadership.

  • Use of Skype for out of game text communications is strongly advised and encouraged.

As a member of The Order of the Black Worm, you are representing the guild with your actions. Remember this at all times as you conduct yourself and RP with other guilds or players in general.

  • Any and all OOC conflict should be redirected to the Guild Master or any of the officers available. They will do their best to resolve any problems that may be occurring. Any issues will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Ranks & Recruitment

[Image: 54px-A_letter.png]s a secretive organisation dealing in incredibly dangerous and forbidden magics, the Order of the Black Worm naturally recruits its new brothers and sisters carefully to avoid exposure to their enemies. The very nature of these dark wizards has also made them particularly suspicious of outsiders and elitist in their craft and distribution of magical knowledge, in contrast to the Mages Guild. All potential initiates are expected to have some experience in magic, and knowledge of, or the desire to learn Necromancy. The greater the initiates competancy in magic or knowledge, the higher their chances of surviving the selection stages of initiation will be. Typically however, mages or individuals exhibiting characteristics that the Order desires will be sought out themselves.

Despite their rigid and archaic initiation protocols however, they maintain a fairly loose structural heirarchy, with members rising in power and stature through service to the Order.

Initiate

The Initiate is newest and lowliest of the cabal's assemblage. Converts and mages swayed by the allure the Order's dark powers or sanctuary from the moral restrictions of society, they are more often than not enthusiastic, if inexperienced members eager to prove themselves and be permitted access to greater knowledge and resources. Generally they are distrusted or viewed as expendable subjects by the more veteran cultists of the Order until they have proven themselves.

Oblate

The Oblate is one who has earned their place in the order and survived the initiate's trials. Their competency is recognized by their brothers and sisters, and will often be free to pursue their own necromantic research, provided it is shared, and to the benefit of the Order's goals.

Disciple

The Disciple is an acolyte that has proven themselves to be of great worth in the eyes of the Order, through their actions or groundbreaking research. They are among the Order's most elite and dangerous cultists, and are often called upon to instruct or direct the lesser acolytes in their tasks. Their stature in the Order sometimes allows them access to the Order's profane collection of artifacts, in order to bolster their already considerably dangerous powers.

Anchorite

There are those among the ranks of the Order of the Black Worm that see necromancy not merely as an art, but as a religion; Those who have accepted the words of the King of Worms, and realized the true potential of necromancy as a path to transcendence. Powerful in the Black Arts and wise in the teachings of Mannimarco, Worm Anchorites are the priests and curates of the Order. These dark sorcerers fully devote themselves to the mastery of their craft, ever seeking to become closer to their god. They are the guiding authority within the cabal, often serving as ritual leaders, priests and taskmasters.

Worm Eremite

The Eremite is the defacto overseer of his Cabal and is entrusted by the Order of the Black Worm and its higher echelons spread through Cyrodiil to carry out the will of the King of Worms. The Eremite directs his Cabal to further the Order's influence in their region, and rewards acolytes with knowledge and power. To the brothers and sisters of the coven, the Eremite is the pinnacle of necromantic learning and dark rumours even suggest that one day, the King of Worms may bestow the Eremites with the knowledge of Lichcraft...

Archetypes

[Image: 54px-A_letter.png]ny Cabal requires a variety of roles and specialties in order to remain operational and effective, and the Order of the Black Worm is no exception. Archetypes will allow members to have specific roles and responsibilities within the Cabal which appeal to their talents and skillset, irrespective of their rank. These are merely a handful of the dark paths those that follow the King of Worms in pursuit of power may choose, and should be viewed as guidelines only.

Worm Priest

The Cabal Priest spreads the morbid will of the Order's master, Mannimarco, amongst the acolytes. The Order's reverence and devotion to Mannimarco is bolstered by the Priests, who spread word of his powers and conquest over death itself. They ensure that the Order regularly shows their devotion to Mannimarco through sacrificial rites or offerings, and consistently remind the acolytes that he has the power to gift them with immortality...

Apothecary

The Cabal Apothecary is a master alchemist, creating elixirs and brewing powerful poisons to employ against their enemies. They are responsible for the creation of embalming fluids for the Order's undead monstrosities, as well as other ritual concoctions which may be required. The Apothecary also serves as the Coven's caretaker and quartermaster of alchemical or ritual reagents, and will be required to obtain or create many incenses, oils, herbs and powders for their stocks.

Exhumist

The Exhumist is the Cabal's expert graverobber in residence. They are able to formulate cunning plans to obtain corpses from High Rock's graveyards, and execute them from start to finish - alone or with assistance - to get the Order the bodies they need without detection. The Exhumist lives and dies by his ability to move unseen, cover their tracks, and execute their heists without flaw like a seasoned veteran.

Librarian

The Librarian is the Cabal's master of lore and knowledge. He is both keeper and collector of the Cabal's tomes and scrolls, and is constantly searching for new volumes of information to add to the Order's collection. He will often coordinate with the Archivist to research or track down potent dark magical artifacts that can be obtained by the Order's agents.

Spymaster

The Spymaster is responsible for coordinating and collecting the information acquired by the Order's spies and infiltrators, in addition to being a talented infiltrator himself. The Spymaster will acquire detailed information, from the movements and threats of guilds or the alliances, to political secrets and intrigue throughout the kingdoms and baronies of High Rock, and exploit these for the benefit of the Order.

Archivist

The Archivist collects, studies and protects the Order's collection of artifacts, ranging from powerfully cursed or enchanted items, to humble and obscure trinkets. It is the Archivists responsibility to ensure these artifacts are well cataloged, and ensure they are returned to their rightful places when borrowed for research by the acolytes, no matter what the cost. The Order's power and knowledge rests on their acquisition and study of Nirn's tainted objects, no matter what their origins may be, and it is the Archivists responsibility to seek out and devise means of obtaining these items (which is often by no means a straightforward, or safe task).

Ritualist

The Ritualist is the Cabal's master of ceremonies, rites and rituals, often leading them or making the necessary preparations for them. The Ritualist is deeply knowledgeable in necromancy and conjuration, and through trial and error or fervent study, is able to execute dangerous rituals and invocations - often as part of a large group - to devastating effect. Given his experience, the Ritualist is often the first point of contact for new acolytes desiring to learn, and may be swayed to share some of his knowledge... for a price. The Ritualist is a master of conjuration magic and is also responsible for communing with, and summoning, Daedric forces.

Hemomancer

In expanding, researching and developing their own school of necromancy under the visionary leadership of Mannimarco, the Order has assimilated the study of Blood Magic, an equally foul yet ancient and forgotten magical art, into its fold. The Hemomancer is the Cabal's practitioner and researcher of this primal magic, delving into its lost secrets and surmounting its dangers. The Hemomancer is responsible for expanding their, and the Cabal's knowledge of this mysterious tool in their arsenal and unlocking its full potential for the Order, as well as instructing those that have been deemed worthy and competent enough to engage in its study.

Thaumaturgist

The Thaumaturgist is the Cabal's foremost expert on Spirits, apparitions, Souls and Soul Gems, as well as the invocation of these powers. He knows the intricacies of soul trapping and how these ensnared mortal souls can be best put to use in the Order's nefarious purposes, as well as how to summon and bind the restless spiritual energies of the dead under the Necromancers' call. The Thaumaturgist is also responsible for communining with the dead and extracting their secrets.

Emissary

The Emissary is the diplomatic hand of the Order, when it is rarely employed. Eloquent, patient and calculating, the Emmissary is sent out, usually with an ulterior motive, to negotiate an allegiance, pact or agreements with various factions of Tamriel, both mortal and Daedric. When sent to the courts of High Rock, the Emissary always knows better than to disclose his true allegiances when brokering agreements...

I agree too with you, I am as much enemy to Necromancers one can be and I were actually considering to join for a Little while there, I love when Guilds are so well written and detailed like this one, even if I dislike the AD :)

Woops, wasn't meant to be put down as Aldmeri Dominion! The Order will hopefully be based in High Rock / Dragontail Mountains in the Daggerfall Covenant instead.

Thanks all for the support!
