Am I the only person who thinks that this would be an awesome idea?

You could write about literally anything and distribute your works for others to read. You wouldnt really be able to make any in-game money out of this but I would LOVE to, say, write a short story for everyone to read in-game and I would love to read other peoples works too. It would be, in my geeky opinion, such fun!

Players could write stories, quest help manuals, crafting manuals, newspapers, anything that they're passionate about and wish to share. Smiling

I know there is a lot of potential from the community, the books that players write would have to be cleared by zos and bethesda, which would take way too much time for them to read through.

I like the idea of having more books in the game, but its just a lot of work.

Why would the books have to cleared anymore than normal conversations would?

Well if its in-game then it can be mistaken for a lore book and such, since there already are lore books in the game you cant have contradicting content.
By your idea you should just head over to the role-play section of the forums.

Not if player based books were, for example, all bright yellow and all contained a disclaimer at the top of the text explaining that this is a player made book.

Like this idea, however this is the internet and you can be almost certain it would have to be stopped because of immature idiots.

A great idea but only if they are vetted by the devs first and only if a finite number of them are implemented into world.

Brief example of what might happen with unfiltered player written books laying around tamriel:

"page 1 - DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS DICKS LOLOLOLOL"

Now with that said, I would love to see books that were written by players, but I really think it would benefit everybody if they were approved first.

A diary in which the players can write the progress and their news of their characters would be nice for me, also their impressions of quests or anything in the game, such as their favorite weapons and armors, how they made them etc.

But surely a player would be punished for saying "DICKS" repeatedly, in any form, anyway?

But if the books are coloured a specific way then people who dont wish to read such books could just ignore them?

I think, if you make them difficult enough to create (time consuming, expensive etc) then that would surely self regulate?

It would be a good idea if there werent a lot of idiots who would ruin it.

I hate reading but elder scrolls books would be an exception along with lotr and halo.
