Zenimax has 5 professions but the Provisioner seems to not hold any advantages compared to Alchemy. I just don't see any advantages, do you guys see any benefits of choosing this profession and any of you choosing to this profession, let me know on your replies.
Thanks Thumbs_up

Well cooking in Skyrim wasn't much of my thing because it didn't really do much for me and the ingredients were heavy to carry around. But maybe they have plans for people who wish to cook in TESO, I don't think it should compare to Alchemy though but maybe it will be more beneficial than it was before.
It could probably mean you have to feed you character daily and the different things you eat would have different effects on your character.

I'm guessing it has to do with buffs? I can't be sure. I sent a question about it for the Ask Us Anything thing so I'll see if they answer

It appears that Provisions and Alchemy are the consumable creation crafts. My bet is Alchemy has focus on both self-buffs and offensive capabilities (ex. poisons) whilst Provisioner focuses solely on self-buffs. In addition to this, Alchemy consumables appear to be the short-term buffs or healing / mana / stamina potions used through potions- / consumables- button whilst Provisioner seems to be the long-term buffs (x minutes).

I think that Alchemy would have a wider variety of mixtures but like you said the effects might be more short term than the Provisioner.
IDK how they plan to pull it off but I think selling potions and food in-game might be kinda tuff.

In response to your remark about it being tough to sell potions and food: I think it will depend on how meaningful they make these professions. If they make potions easy to find in the game world, and food has little to no use, then yes, they would be difficult to sell. However, if it is rare to find anything beyond the basic potions in the world, and the food items have powerful and meaningful uses (10% more health/stamina/magica for extended periods of time) and they make a big difference in the group or PvP content, then I think they will find their niche in the economy. Basically if they screw up the economy/profession balances, then there may not be any viable money makers, but if done right, all of the professions should have their place in the TESO economy.

In one of the interviews they did mention that the food created through crafting was going to be better then what was available through NPCs/standard methods. They didn't say much other then that though. So it would just depend on how much better the crafted item is, will it be worth the players time to actively hunt out those items on the AH/through whispers or craft it themselves.

I could imagine a system with instant effect vs regen effects. Ill use health as an example. With alchemy, you can craft potions that when consumed will heal 100 points of health instantly. In contrast, the provisioned would make a dish that when consumed would increase health regeneration by 20% for say 10 real-time minutes. With this kind of system, both alchemy and provioner would add great value to survivability in the battlefield. You would eat a meal before battle, and in turn would help save you potions

I read somewhere that there is just a 20 second cool down for using potions, almost as though, like you said, it would be a very short temporary buff, almost as though you were popping a cool down. Where as I also read that, once again, as you previously stated, foods and drinks would add longer lasting buffs. So in my speculation, you're right on with this.

They have said it will serve a purpose so I think it will provide different buffs to alchemy.

Yeah it's now runecrafting which I would prefer in enchanting because I plan to be an enchanter so say I learnt the paralyse enchantment I could craft a rune every so often to keep the price high, supply and demand, and sell it for a fortune assuming its rare like in Skyrim. Say if I found a detect life enchantment, like in oblivion, I could sell that for a fortune if I crafted a rune. I hope they change it back so we have provisioner instead of runecrafting or I may have to do two skill lines.

I have moved this thread from the Class Discussion board to the TESO General Discussion board as the topic of the Provisioning profession does not seem to relate directly to characters classes.

Feel free to continue discussing the topic at hand.
