Q&A #5: Partnering Guilds?

My brother wants to start his own guild because he wants it to be a "Assassins Only" guild. He says that he wants to partner my guild with his guild. So my question for you guys is: Do you think it will be possible for members of two different guilds to team up for a certain quest?

((NOTE: I try to come up with as many good questions as I can. I want this to be a day to day thing for me. So keep your eyes out for new Q&As))

They have said that players will be able to join multiple guilds, not sure about the "partner" thing you are asking for but if you are in same faction you should both be able to join each others guild. Also in a recent interview Paul Sage, Creative director for ESO, stated that players might be able to join guilds even in other factions, how that works and what its for he would not talk about but there you go...

Note it is a 22 minute and change interview so sit back with a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy! :)

Yes, I watched the live stream that day. So I know about joining other guilds. What I'd like to know is the publics view on "Partnering Guilds". I don't really want facts (because, obviously, nobody has them), I want the public's Point of View on the subject.

I've always like the idea of having a giant Coalition. It's something we used to do with RP-PVP on World of Warcraft.

We would link Together about 4-5 Small/Medium guilds, and do huge events with all of us. It also just gave off the feel of being allied with something bigger than just our faction.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!

Not sure if I'm too fond off the idea off huge coalitions. As I've seen on other games how said coalition can dominate the game and market. Which would be not so fun for those not in one. But having a limit on how big these coalitions can get could deal with that problem. And as mentioned before teaming up with other guild in pve or pvp to run some epic raids could be quite nice.

It's a very fun thing to do! I think that it should be implemented.

Well, you see, we would only be doing it for quests. Not PVP.

Huge coalitions are still a problem, as whatever instance(s) they are on they're likely to be the ones who can constantly farm open world and adventure zone mobs and bosses. Which would give them a good lead resource wise, which again could translate into the market to a lesser extent. Better to limit such things to a level where its more a tool off convenience rather than a tool off domination. And yes the loot/exp system in the game will lessen the impact. But if mobs and bosses are constantly on respawn becuase a large coalition is constantly farming them. It'll diminish the fun factor for the rest.

I am not for multiple guild membership. I like to know the members in my guild are going to be representing us when they are playing.

I am for guild alliances. I have had many positive experiences with allied guilds in DAOC and WAR. It's convenient and allows for guilds with common goals or methods to work together, while retaining their internal differences.

So the guild system will look like Guild War 2?

Be interesting to see this Alliances, where they can combine actions for dungeons and pvp.

I can not see any reason why people of the same faction can not work together... In fact, ESO seems to be taking that concept vital to MMO's; to a whole new level.

Calling on 15+ years exp with guild leadership in MMO's, I will say that I am not and never will be a fan of being in multiple guilds. Most guilds;unless extremely small and casual; have goals in mind. These goals can span from crafting to end game raid content. When building a guilds infrastructure, placing people in positions that suite them are win -win situations for that guild.

Example:
I have a very active person on the website and is detailed oriented. Asking this person to be an admin for the guild website along with helping new people get acquainted is a large responsibility and one that is vital to a good stable guild. If this person was an active member of more than one guild, this assignment would suffer.

Game play example:
We are Raiding 3 nights a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday @ 7 p.m. cst... or ...
It is Saturday and we have a guild event scheduled...

People in the same guild but on an alt can cause some gripes and rumblings. Now let that person be online on their main toon, and reply with...I can't... I am running with my other guild right now....

There will be a spontaneous combustion within guild chat and officers chat...

So, while it may be allowed ... does not mean it is a good idea...
Kinda the same idea when shopping for spandex... just because it comes in XXL.. Does not mean you should buy & wear it :)

Not Set
I think I know what what you are getting at, alliance between guilds and the ability for multiple guilds to easily organize events together.
I personally like this idea and think it would create a better social climate and faction cohesion. I most MMOs, there tends to be an "us" versus "Them" within the same faction. The guild system in Guild Wars 2, in my opinion, erodes group cohesion more than it assists; which inevitably causes players to be a part of 10+ different guilds and places extra work on guild leaders/officers to manage who is active in their guild.

Implementation of a guild alliance calendar would also be cool...guilds A, B, and C could all be friends and schedule an epic assault into PVP on a specific time and place.

My two cents.

faction calendar would be awesome... problem is... It is hard enough to get guild members to sign up on raid ninja consistently... would love to see it as a feature though.

This one doesn't like the idea of being part of multiple guilds, for the reasons @Mezno stated above...
Alliances are a totally other cup of Moon Sugar, When multiple guilds form Alliances, they can achieve goals far greater than a single guild...
Be it in the trade or the power side of the game, Alliances are attractive, and this one thinks will be necesary for anyone hoping to obtain the Ruby Throne
This one has started an Alliance called the Southern Brotherhood (12 guilds are member for now), and dreams of the day that the Alliance teams up to go fight epic battles.
Also, raiding becomes easier with Alliances, as in a guild there are not always enough candidates to go on a raid, if that raid would be placed in the Alliance Calendar, chances are bigger that there would be enough players available to make the raid a succes.
