Daggerfall Covenant (Breton)
This is a thread to discuss the Bosmer and maybe learn something new about them. I have got this info from uesp, the imperial library, wikia, theelderscrollsonline.com and elderlore.wordpress.com and tried to make a summary of it.

Official info from the teso devs :The Wood Elves, or Bosmer, are mischievous, curious and nimble. Because their homeland of Valenwood is often attacked by the Colovian Imperials, Wood Elves are experts at the art of defense. They are also gifted archers, perhaps the best in all of Tamriel. The capital of the Aldmeri Dominion, Elden Root, lies in the heart of their homeland. It has evolved into a center of political and cultural importance and is of vital strategic importance in the battle to control Tamriel.

Bosmer, or Wood Elves, hail from the province of Valenwood, they Reject the formalities of the civilized world, the Bosmer prefers living for a life in the wilderness, among nature, the trees, and animals. In fact, their major cities are actually located in giant trees in the province of Valenwood. They decorate their bodies to resemble their forest surroundings. They are known to be extremely agile and quick. Their nimbleness serves them best in any art involving stealth. Many are well respected archers, due to their inherent mastery of the bow.

Personality

The Bosmer are mischievous and curious. They are also less proud then their Dunmer and Altmer cousins, this is one of the reasons that they get along better with the races of man. The Bosmer reject the stiff, formal traditions of Aldmeri high culture, preferring a romantic, simple existence in harmony with the land, its wild beauty and wild creatures.

Biology

The Bosmer are one of the smallest races in Tamriel and are born with skin colors ranging from light brown to pale tan. They are the best Archers in Tamriel and are noted for their stealth skills.

History

The start of recorded history itself in 1E 1 starts with the founding of the Camoran dynasty by King Eplear.

When the Aldmer changed their ways to match their new Environment, Valenwood, after they had evolved to suit in the forest in their body and mind, they became known as the Bosmer. In return for the patronage of Y'ffre, they swore never to kill, injure, or eat any of the vegetation of the new home, that event is called the green pact.

Eplear's success in uniting the tribal and wild Bosmer must have been a very great military feat. The Bosmer welcomed escaped slaves from the Ayleids, and then Ayleids fleeing the Alessian rebellion, this led to that some Ayleid blood flows in the viens of the Bosmer. In 1E 340 they made a trade treaty with the humans who had only recently Thrown of the brutal rule of the Ayleids and destroyed their Power.

The treaty was short-lived, however, and hostility grew between the Dynasty and the Empire. The Nord King Borgas, became a victim of Valenwood's infamous Wild Hunt as he travelled to Cyrodiil to join a war against the Bosmer. The Wild Hunt is a ritual wich turns everyone who participate in it to blood-thirsty monsters, that is a horrible but very effective way for the Bosmer to defend themselves. Skyrim would spend the next fifty years in civil war.

Battles were contuined to be fought along the Cyrodiil and Valenwood border lands. When the Empress Herda improved relations with the Colovians, the attacks only became more intense, though it was not until 1E 2714 - after relenting warfare and a devastating plague from the island of Thras home of the Sload (the thrassian plauge) - that Valenwood fell to the Cyrodilic Empire. The Camoran Dynasty as an entity still existed, but its power was diminished. The Empire was eager to make sure that Valenwood would not unite against them, and tried to solve it by granting some independence to each treethane of the Dynasty. Eldenroot, Silvenar, Haven, Archen, Falensti, Woodhearth rose from being small local trading posts to full-fledged Powers on their own.

For centuries, the Bosmer were obedient too the Empire. Though at the fall of the Cyrodilic Empire in 2E 430, the Camorans attempted to regain their former power, but Everything they tried were vain, the Bosmer had become to culturally different to be United. Without any other greater power to unite them and for them all to obey, they began to declare war on eachother, and not only themselves but also the Khajiit to the east, and the Colovians to the north. The Altmer however managed to unite them and formed the Aldmeri Dominion.

The unified nation of Valenwood and The Summerset Isles, the Aldmeri Dominion, was the greatest power in Tamriel until the empire of Tiber Septim. The government of Valenwood was called the Thalmor, a congress of Bosmeri chieftains and Altmeri diplomats. They ruled Valenwood good until Tiber Septim destroyed them. Though to bring the down he had to use the Numidium, also known as the Brass Tower and afew other names. It were a giant Golem built by the Dwemer when they tried to create a god.

The Emperor allowed Valenwood to keep a little independence, like the tribal councils and a Camoran king, though they ofcourse were controlled by the Empire. For two and a half Century, Valenwood had peace. The War of the Isle and the War of the Red Diamond, which were serious full-out wars in some other parts of the Empire didnt affect Valenwood much.

But in 3E 249 the Peace were about to dbe destroyed, a man conquered the throne of the Camoran dynasty, and with regular and Daedric allies, he soon conquered all of Valenwood with his armies, destroying all who opposed him. He was Haymon Camoran, also called the Camoran Usurper. He had conqured all of Valenwood in only two years. Then he turned his Eye North, he assaulted the Empire. He conquered signifigant parts of the western part of Cyrodiil and sacked cities. Then he contuined too Hammerfell.

The Empire had a weak emperor at this time and was not able to respond to the threat effectively ((due to a internal dispute over Power)). The emperor Cephorus Septim II sent a large army of mercenaries to stop him. The Usurper however either bribed them or slaughtered them and raised them as undead, however somehow he got the mercenaries into his own army. He marched through Hammerfell and destroyed every army in his way. In the end he had conquered almost entire Hammerfell, then he contuined to High Rock.

The Bretons usual leaders, the kings of Daggerfall and Wayrest had both internal conflicts about who should lead and their kings had no real Power. Infact there was none from their traditional sources who could lead them, and a couple of kings with lesser Power had made secret Alliances with the usurper to have their lands protectedAnd many Bretons saw him as a liberator. But when the rest saw how bad he treated the capured Bretons the Baron of Dwynnen, Othrok, with the kingdoms of Ykalon, Phyrgia, and Kambria. It was these allies that changed a popular misconception about the Usurper, which was that he wished to free the people from the Empire, and once he had, he was soon able to muster a huge army and the second largest navy that Tamriel had ever seen, the only fleet larger was that of Uriel Septim V.

The army faced the Usurper at Dwynnen and prevented him from entering the Iliac bay. In the battle of firewaves 3E 267 they destroyed the Usurpers army and the Usurper himself was killed in the battle.

The Usurper left a broken and shattered Valenwood. Not trusting the Empire or the Summerset Isles enough for any help, or its local leaders for guidance, the Bosmer have become more and more Isolated. The people started leaving the cities, preferring a simple life in the forests.

Valenwood suffered more than any other provinces in the Imperial Simulacrum. The Empire refused to lend any help too the Bosmer, and Valenwood lost large pieces of land too the Summerset Isles and Elsweyr.

In the five year war in 3E 395 - 3E 399, during the Imperial Simulacrum The Bosmer attacked the Khajiit city of Torval, and slaughtering over a thousand of its Citizens Before they were driven off.

In the second battle in this war the Khajiit lost due to that they had been adviced to use Heavy armor, wich in they were not

Religion

The main religion in the forests of Valenwood is that of the Forest God and Ancestor Worship. According to legend, the Bosmer witnessed the death of Yffre. In his death, his spiritual energies formed an Earthbone, a natural law, to limit certain aspects of the world. Yffre's Earthbone placed a limit on the ability of a being to change its form and nature, as previously they could change them at will. However, the Bosmer, having witnessed the formation of the Earthbone, learned how to manipulate it to avoid its restrictions. The most notable (and horrible) of their abbilites of this ability is the Wild Hunt, a ritual known only to the shaman of Valenwood. This act is reserved to protect Valenwood from invading forces, the ritual permanently transforms all participants into mindless, blood-thirsty monsters, who will then consume all of their enemies and then themselves. The Bosmer noted that all monsters in the world were born from previous Wild Hunts.

Wood elf/Bosmer Gods

Auri-El
(King of the Aldmer) Auri-El is the elven Akatosh. He is the chief of most Aldmeri pantheons. Most Altmeri and Bosmeri claim direct descent from Auri-El. He agreed to take his part in the creation of the mortal plane, that act which forever sundered the Elves from the spirit worlds of eternity. To make up for it, Auri-El led the original Aldmer against the armies of Lorkhan in mythic times, vanquishing that tyrant and establishing the first kingdoms, Atmora and Old Ehlnofey (Aldmeris).

Y'ffre
(God of the Forest) Most important deity of the Bosmeri pantheon. Y'ffre transformed himself into the first of the Ehlnofey, or 'Earth Bones'. After these laws of nature were established, mortals had a semblance of safety in the new world, because they could finally understand it. Y'ffre is sometimes called the Storyteller, for the lessons he taught the first Bosmer. Some Bosmer still possess the knowledge of the chaos times, which they can use to great effect (the Wild Hunt).

Arkay
(God of the Cycle of Life and Death) Member of the Eight Divines pantheon, and popular elsewhere as well. Arkay is often more important in those cultures where his father, Akatosh, is either less related to time or where his time aspects are difficult to comprehend by the layman. He is the god of burials and funeral rites, and is sometimes associated with the seasons. His priests are staunch opponents of necromancy and all forms of the undead.

Z'en
(God of Toil) Bosmeri god of payment in kind. Studies indicate origins in both Argonian and Akaviri mythologies, perhaps introduced into Valenwood by Kothringi sailors. Ostensibly an agriculture deity, Z'en sometimes proves to be an entity of a much higher cosmic order.

Xarxes
Xarxes is the god of ancestry and secret knowledge. He began as a scribe to Auri-El, and has kept track of all Aldmeri accomplishments, large and small, since the beginning of time. He created his wife, Oghma, from his favorite moments in history.

Baan Dar
(The Bandit God) In most regions, Baan Dar is a marginal diety, a trickster spirit of thieves and beggars. In Elsweyr he is more important, and is regarded as the Pariah. In this aspect, Baan Dar becomes the cleverness or desperate genius of the long-suffering Khajiiti, whose last minute plans always upset the machinations of their enemies.

Mara
(Goddess of Love) Nearly universal goddess. Origins started in mythic times as a fertility goddess. In Skyrim, Mara is a handmaiden of Kyne. In the Empire, she is Mother-Goddess. She is sometimes associated with Nir of the 'Anuad', the female principle of the cosmos that gave birth to creation.

Stendarr
(God of Mercy) God of the Eight Divines, Stendarr has evolved from his Nordic origins into a deity of compassion or, sometimes, righteous rule. He is said to have accompanied Tiber Septim in his later years. In early Altmeri legends, Stendarr is the apologist of Men.

Lorkhan
(The Missing God) This Creator-Trickster-Tester deity is in every Tamrielic mythic tradition. His most popular name is the Aldmeri 'Lorkhan', or Doom Drum. He convinced or contrived the Original Spirits to bring about the creation of the mortal plane, Nirn. After the world is materialized, Lorkhan is separated from his divine center, sometimes involuntarily, and wanders the creation of the et'Ada. He and his metaphysical placement in the 'scheme of things' is interpreted a variety of ways. To the High Elves, he is the most unholy of all higher powers, as he forever broke their connection to the spirit plane. In the legends, he is almost always an enemy of the Aldmer.

Herma-Mora
(The Woodland Man) Ancient Atmoran demon who, at one time, nearly seduced the Nords into becoming Aldmer. Most Ysgramor myths are about escaping the wiles of old Herma-Mora. The Skaal for example has Always been enemies with Herma-mora, he have treid to trick them to tell their secrets many times.

Jone

(Little Moon God) Aldmeri god of the Little Moon. Also called Secunda. In Khajiiti religion, Jone is only one aspect of the Lunar Lattice, or ja-Kha'jay.

Jode
(Big Moon God) Aldmeri god of the Big Moon. Also called Masser. In Khajiiti religion, Jode is only one aspect of the Lunar Lattice, or ja-Kha'jay

If we aren't given the option for a scorched earth policy in Valenwood I will be disappoint.

Gota give them credit though for being Druidic hippies while at the same time crazed meat eaters.
