So they said that they are getting rid of the Holy Trinity style game play and are leaning towards a more open ended class style where you can be whatever you want.

How does this take away from the Holy Trinity if you will still have tanks, healers and dps?

What are they doing to make Dungeons different.

Will there still be Tanks, Healers and DPS style roles?

They never said they are getting rid of the Holy Trinity, they do have a open class design anyone can be anything, with a primary and secondary classes, you can focus on healing, but also focus on a melee or range abilities in order to solo and assist in RvR.

But there will still be the typical Tank Healer DPS

Ah, then I must have read that from someone else then. I was trying to figure out how they would play the game without the Holy Trinity role, kind of baffled me.

What they are getting rid of is essentially the whole 'You are this class therefor you must do this and play like this'

More or less throwing away standard aggro-management. How *much* that will effect the Trinity remains to be seen; but at the very least it should shake up standard Trinity tactics a little bit.

I'd like for more, but I'm apparently in the minority on that. The masses apparently just want to play the same game they're already bored with, with a new skin.

Have to ask - did you try playing GW2...was just a silly kitefest of dps.

Removing the holy trinity is not the way forward. Adding versatility, multibuilds, being able to make your own kind of build and not being locked into a set class, and the ability to respec your build on the fly with saved builds and whatnot, I'm all for though.

Yes, actually I did. And regardless of any flaws it might have had, I personally found it a refreshing change from the same-old tired routine.

Didn't have to be. But as I said: the masses just want to play the same game they've always played, but with a new skin. Bereft of a proper Trinity, they just default to the only Trinity role that was viable outside of a group.

Removing the holy trinity is the only to to go in *any* direction. Not all of them will be good directions, and I suppose stagnancy is comfortable for a great many.

But so long as the trinity remains, everything is just going to be the same general gameplay as it always was. Opening up 'tanking' to mages, or whatever, is just tanking with a different look.

"Respec on the fly" parses out as one of two things:
1) Jack-of-all-trades characters, ala UO without the skill-cap, with a trivial nuisance-process obscuring it
2) Replacement process for rolling a new toon when the group NEEDS TANK BADLY or whatever; a truncation or shifting of the grind process, but otherwise just playing the same game.

And FTR, I have nothing against those who want to play that game again. I'm just not one of them.

I don't think my hands and fingers could take another circle strafing game, so going to have to disagree on all points.

Non sequiturs are fun, aren't they?

(translation: that rationale has no discernible connection to the actual points it seems to be in response to.)

I wasn't trying to refute your points, I was stating my opinion. Constant circle strafing hurts my hands and fingers, been gaming too long and getting too old to keep that kind of finger gymnastics up these days.

Some people really like arguments - sometimes the internet is like being chased down on the street with someone yelling some random crap you don't really care about.

Random person - we're done, you're not getting my number :P

Would have helped if you'd not worded it as "disagree on all points," as that reeks of... well, refuting multiple points.

And I admit, I tend to get a bit snarky when people tell me I'm wrong when I state my preferences. Which you sorta did in your first response to me, and appeared to continue doing with the way you worded that.

I'd apologize for that latter error, but...
