"Relics" is a small shop located on the outskirts of ((probably)) Firsthold in the Summerset Isles. It specializes in the acquisition and sale of items of cultural or historic significance, especially of those cultures foreign to their typical Altmer clientele.

With the onset of war, the shop has altered its mission to "ensure the safekeeping of relevant pieces of history from the soon-to-be extinct cultures that defy the Aldmeri Dominion". It is little more than semantics, as the business remains the same, but overt patriotism is always a sound fiscal decision.

As humble and uninteresting a shop as it is, rumors abound. Whether there is truth to them or not is a subject of many dinner party conversations and tavern gossip, but there is nothing definitive to prove or dismiss them.

Recently, the bill below has been posted on the outside of the shop, and other, similar bills throughout populated areas within the Aldmeri Dominion direct interested parties there:

OOC information:

Our site: http://relics-teso.enjin.com/

It is our goal to create an immersive atmosphere within the Elder Scrolls Online, designed for the niche of working adults who, while juggling our RL responsibilities, find an outlet in roleplay and storytelling while playing MMOs. We also hope to contribute to the larger RP community, acting as allies, enemies, or even that distasteful place our more honorable counterparts go to once in a while for information.

We're looking for players interested in joining, guilds seeking allies, guilds seeking enemies, or just folks interested in some RP with us. We're a relatively small group of players who have enjoyed running guilds and RP with each other for a few years, and we're excited to call TESO our home for a while. We're not sure how large we'd be comfortable growing, but we'll play that by ear.

So, if inclined, check out our site, and let me (Leorin) or Dagdarrin know if there's anything we can do for you.
Who are you guys?

We're a dark roleplay guild within the Aldmeri Dominion in The Elder Scrolls Online (North American PC megaserver). In real life, we're working adults with a penchant for online roleplay and storytelling, with heavy doses of PvE and PvP thrown in for good measure. In game, we're a secretive organization committed to gathering intelligence for the Aldmeri Dominion, under the cover of (and funded by) a shop of curiosities in the Summerset Isles called Relics.

What is roleplay, and do I have to if I want to join?

Roleplay (RP) is the gameplay method of behaving as if your character in the game is a living, breathing member of the world, motivated by whatever you deem interesting. While, yes, we expect our members to hold roleplaying as a priority, we do not expect all our members to be seasoned or experienced roleplayers, and we welcome the opportunity to assist and guide those new to it. Our goal is to create an immersive atmosphere within the complex and intricate lore of the Elder Scrolls.

I've heard that mixing IC and OOC is bad juju. Can you elaborate?

Certainly. IC stands for "in character", OOC stands for "out of character". Getting the two mixed up can lead to hurt feelings and misunderstandings, especially in RP conflict. It is important to always understand the difference between IC interactions and OOC interactions, especially in a guild like ours, where our characters might not always be the best kinds of people.

What we recommend to help ensure that such confusion does not take place is to communicate with other involved players. It doesn't hurt to remind someone that what your character is doing or saying is IC, and only IC. It also helps to continuously remind yourself of that. It might not be possible to completely dissociate ourselves from the fates of the characters we come to love so much, but we can try.

Speaking of drama...

We're good with IC drama and stories with it, but when it comes to us (the players) we have no tolerance at all. We expect our members to treat each other with patience and respect, and differences of opinion should be treated as just that, and not reasons to insult or defame one another. While our characters might be prone to treat each other poorly once in a while, our players should not.

IC drama = fun and interesting roleplay and storytelling. OOC drama = bad.

You mentioned "dark roleplay guild". You're evil, then? (IC, of course - you all seem pretty cool OOC)

In a sense, yes. While our organization believes that the Aldmeri Dominion is the best equipped to rule Tamriel, a "noble" or "honorable" war is one doomed to fail. Characters that will fit in our theme are those who are willing to look the other way, those anxious to get their hands dirty for the greater good, and those who want to get paid.

Our brand of evil lies more in subtlety than in wearing black armor or sociopathic behavior. Announcing we're evil to the world would be counterproductive, and we expect our members would understand that.

So, since you're roleplaying bad guys, are you cool with topics like torture and rape? (IC, naturally)

Some topics tread a fine line between poor taste and freedom of expression. We acknowledge the inconsistencies of cultural and social taboos; in many places in the U.S. physical violence (even murder) seems more acceptable than something as awesome as sex, but those taboos exist nonetheless.

If your particular roleplay is going to take the rest of us down a potentially uncomfortable path (rape tends to be the most common trigger we're aware of), we ask that our members exercise good judgment and consider keeping those things private, especially if discomfort is voiced. It is not our goal to stifle creativity; it is our goal to encourage inclusivity.

We also welcome any specific questions on this topic.

Does my character have to be a part of the Aldmeri Dominion (Altmer, Bosmer, or Khajiit) to join?

We're not quite sure how all that is going to work. While the idea of having agents of the Dominion within the other alliances is intriguing, until the game launches, we won't know the practicality of such. Let us know if you'd like to be our guinea pig.

How do you all feel about spies in your own ranks?

Sounds awesome. Just remember that we're not fans of metagaming or godmoding, and IC actions will lead to IC consequences. Plus, we'd like to talk OOC about it first, as we'd have some requests about not revealing all our IC secrets to the world and whatnot.

Metagaming?

Metagaming is roleplaying with knowledge that you, the player, have, but that your character does not or should not. For instance, players should know that the real mission of Relics is intelligence gathering, but characters outside the guild (and even those newly invited) likely would not.

Godmoding?

This is roleplaying outcomes for characters other than your own. If I decide my character has a disfiguring scar on his/her face, and another player wants their character to heal it, they are welcome to roleplay the attempt, but the result (as it affects my character) should be up to me.

I think I'd enjoy my time in TESO with you all. How do I join?

Thanks - that means a lot. We think you're pretty awesome, yourself. Check out the "Apply" tab and fill out an application for the leadership to review. We'll be in touch. Bear in mind, though, that real life comes first for us (even the leadership), and it might be a few days, especially around holidays.
Our Rank Structure

Prospect - New invites to Relics. Typically, these will be employees of the shop, with no knowledge of the more nefarious operations of the organization.

Tested - These are employees who have passed our evaluations of their trustworthiness and ability to make decisions for the good of the organization, and are brought into the fold as intelligence gatherers in whatever capacity takes advantage of their strengths.

Proven - These are employees who have demonstrated a level of loyalty and commitment to Relics that is above and beyond our typical expectations, and are deserving of an elevated status.

Enforcer - These are senior members of the organization, responsible for the stewardship of specific areas deemed important by our members and leaders. They also advise the leaders, and act as a council to guide the direction of Relics.

Curator - The leader(s) of the organization, and the owner(s) of our shop. While efforts are made to solicit the feedback and opinion of the membership, decisions do need to be made, and it is the responsibility of the Curator(s) to make them.

((Our Rank Structure))

Prospect - New invites to Relics. This is a probationary rank designed to help us get to know the aspiring member, and for the aspiring member to get to know us. We'll assign a small task (or a couple) for the prospect to complete, to facilitate the process of getting to know each other, and to help ensure that we're bringing on members who are interested in contributing to the guild, at least on some small level.

Tested - The bulk of our membership. After having completed the prospect's tasks and earning our trust, a member will be promoted to this rank and will be informed of the true nature of Relics.

Proven - This rank is a non-leadership designation for those members who complete a series of trials the leadership will assign. These trials will be available after the member has been with the guild for a certain amount of time, will be IC challenges, and are meant only for the sake of IC advancement should the player/character desire it.

Enforcer - These will be our officers. Each will have a specific area of responsibility, from (hypothetically) the organization of PvE events, to acting as a lead for our story-arcs and RP in the guild, to maintaining our guild bank and/or auction house, to whatever we feel is important enough to warrant an officer's stewardship. They will also counsel the leaders, and will enforce our standards and make decisions as needed.

Curator - Our leaders.

Some things to note:
•The Prospect rank is temporary, and we will expect a Prospect to complete the task(s) assigned in a reasonable amount of time, though that will, naturally, be extended with extenuating circumstances. We will periodically remove Prospects from the roster who have not demonstrated an effort to complete their task(s), and/or to get to know the guild and offer us a chance to get to know them.
•Promotion from Tested to Proven (or further) will not be mandatory for membership. If we recruit members that are interested in gaming in an immersive atmosphere, but do not wish to dedicate time to "climbing the ladder", so be it.
•We strongly discourage members from joining with the sole intent of becoming an officer of the guild. Such a pursuit typically ends in frustration for all parties, as the officers will be chosen by the leaders based on observations of potential gleaned over time. If officership is something a member aspires to, we recommend joining with the intent of being a contributory member first.

Hoping everyone has had a fantastic new year so far, and that 2014 will be more epic than 2013 (given that TESO will release, that should be a given).

We're looking for mature gamers who can contribute to an atmosphere of camaraderie and goodwill. We're roleplayers, and we're looking for those with an interest in it, but one need not be an expert (or even experienced). We don't favor an elite playstyle of any kind, believing that TESO is a game, and we intend to utilize it for the source of entertainment it was intended to be.

If you're looking for a clandestine RP guild within the Aldmeri Dominion, populated by grown-ups who enjoy spending our free time in an immersive atmosphere, whether story-telling, questing, waging war in Cyrodiil, perfecting a craft, or a combination thereof, look no further than Relics.
