RP Servers

I searched for information on this topic, but couldn't find any.

Will there be an unofficial RP server for TESO?

I know they are running something called the MegaServer, but am not quite clear on what this is. It appears to group everyone in a single shard and then portions you out according to where your friends are.

If this is the case, then that would appear to preclude there being an RP server.

Could anyone shed some light on this topic?

The megaserver means everyone is on 1 server, but there are multiple "phases" and you can switch between them. When you make your character you fill out a survey that would ask if you are a RP player and it will put you with other players of the same interest. It will most likely put pvp oriented people on half of the servers and RP players on the other half but with the option to move to another.

Good explanation ^

But what about people who both RP and PvP? Will they have to choose between the two?

Maybe, or they may have an option in between. But if you choose RP and are put on a RP "server" and wish to pvp then you can just switch to a more PvP like server. Although the PvP appears to only take place in Cyrodiil which is a completely different server called a "campaign". You choose a campaign to join (most likely same one as your guild) and you are permanently in that Cyrodiil campaign. Although you can change campaign at the cost of Alliance Points.

The system will work in a more seamless manner than what's being explained here. You'll be answering subtle questions either through ESOs official website, as well as while you're in-game and creating your character. The server will place you with like-minded people without too much work on your end. If you're into PvP and Roleplay, there's no problem with that -- you won't be choosing one or the other. Rather, all of your preferences will be taken into account.

Okay, this sounds a lot like what GW2 has right now. You can move around all you want for the PvE side of things, but for PvP you have to lock into one shard.

So I assume there will probably be a "campaign" for RP PvP'ers.

I'm only an amateur RP'er, but I love being a fly on the wall and observing. Also, I think the RP in TESO will be intense, especially combined with the RvR. It should take it to a whole 'nother level.

I've also found RP'ers are among the best to PvP with, as the playerbase just seems to be more mature. It was like that in LOTRO, and now in GW2.

Sounds like Guild Wars 2 with a twist.

Honestly I think there will be a ton of crossover between PvE, PvP, and RP people. I know I love RPing, but I also want to be bleeding edge PvE progression. I've never been a hardcore PvP player, though I do like it on the side.
