Rest in safety, wayfarer. Ruptga watches over you here.

Find shelter from sand and sun, drink cool waters.

Reflect on the day’s travel as you prepare for the next.

Find sleep in the house built by your fathers

Who drove out the hordes, washing clean your way.

"There is beauty in the sound of steel cleaving thin air, magic in the twirl, the final slash, the inevitable silence of following death. A sword gives a final kiss. Be honoured, my enemy - my blade will be your last lover."

Sahar al-Qis of Gilane

Name: Sahar

Race: Redguard

Age: 27

Origin: The city of Gilane, Hammerfell

Birth-sign: The Lover

Occupation: Mercenary, spellsword

Relatives: Her family in Gilane, who she has not seen in years - her father Semerkhet, her mother Gehyra, and her siblings Nazeem, T'meenah, Bahral, Ha'rib and Sah'rel.

Brief description of appearance
: Sahar would appear your average Redguard woman, until one has a closer look. She's fairly tall, with an almond skintone, full lips, a curved nose that shows signs of being broken more than once, high cheekbones, a long neck and toned arms and legs. Her hair consists of long, lush and thick strands of black that she treats with henna, hence there is always a dark-red sheen covering the original sooty colour. Her eyes betray that there might be more to her than one would have thought at first glance - the irisses seem almost liquid, of a honey-coloured hue that is very captivating, but borders on the unnatural. Those eyes are the sign of Sahar's dabbling in the magic arts.

Weaponry: Two swords, curved like all the blades made in Hammerfell, accompanied by the occasional dagger hidden in a sleeve or a boot.

Armour/Clothing: When out on the road, Sahar prefers the style of the nomads, in order to stand against the sun beating down on her and the harsh winds - layers of cloth forming a light form of protection, enforced with leather straps and ornate bronze clasps, discs and buckles.

Religious Point of View: Sahar honours her ancestors above all else, and has a fondness for Tava, for Sahar believes Tava's winds will always guide her steps. Like most Redguards she, as well, respects Tu'whacca greatly, and considers the immortal soul sacred. Of all deities, she seems to hold Leki close to her heart, the goddess of swordmanship.

Although no Redguard openly worships the sun present day - the last known region to hold the festival of "Drigh R'Zimb" was Abibon-Gora, now part of Sentinel's stronghold - Sahar seems to regard the sun and its light with a peculiar respect, always aware of the scorching strength within.

Political Point of View: Sahar is insanely proud of her heritage, background and country, but apart from the best interests she holds at heart concerning her home she cares little for politics. She considers the Covenant a necessity, a passing and fleeting alliance born out of dire need.

Loves: The sun, the quiet of the desert, horses, good wine, Gilane, her family, grapes, the clash of swords - she considers swordplay a form of art.

Hates: Cold winds, mud, crabs, leaking roofs, and Elves.

Strengths: Sahar is charming, pleasant to those who are pleasant to her, and has a healthy dose of common sense along with a certain wisdom to her that others will quickly grow to appreciate. She has a witty sense of humour, and needless to say she knows a thing or two about using a sword.

Weaknesses: Cold climates, good wine, and charming men - though around the latter she'll never admit she might be a little impressed.

She's also allergic to mushrooms.

Companions: It is said that three or four years ago, Sahar took on a bet of a General stationed outside Sentinel. The story is a bit vague at best and one would have to ask her for specific details, but that bet ensured she became the owner of a tall, majestic black stallion she calls Dusk.

Even though she is often away from her, her hawk Heres never flies far. Sahar found the bird when she was very young, with a wing that seemed beyond healing. Nowadays the pet never strays far from her.

Notable relationships: The family Sahar left behind in Gilane is a large one, with both her father and mother standing at the head of a house of trading. Sahar has five siblings, both older and younger ones.

She has a curious friendship with a governess from Old Hegathe, called Moriah.

She's been seen around a Breton called Sorcha every once in a while.

Of late, she seems to work on creating some ties with the Kynaran Order.

Background: Born a second daughter of a rather cosmopolitan family in Gilane, Hammerfell, Sahar grew up in a relative comfort and luxury of safety, within a city's walls. Gilane however, once the home of the infamous Dire Wolves, inspired Sahar at an early age to leave the city and make her own way and test her own abilities, instead of living a life of safety. On top of that, ever since she could read and was old enough to listen, the stories of the Sword-singers, the Maidens of the Spirit Sword and the way of the Ansei fascinated her to a point of obsession.

Determined to take part in what the Redguards consider a "holy war" (surviving the unforgiving sands and red mists of the Alik'r Desert) and to find out more about what the Redguards still called Shehai Shen She Ru, Sahar simply set out of Gilane at the tender age of sixteen. What exactly happened in the years that followed, is not common knowledge, though she has been willing to share some details over the years with trusted friends - she would speak of her travels with the nomads, who helped her hone her skills in archery and swordplay, and afterwards her lonesome wandering, which she considered her true test. During her months, almost years of solitude, in which she had no company but her horse and the sand, Sahar started to take a rather unorthodox turn. It is said the winds and sands of Alik'r hold magic of their own, and one who would see Sahar in a fight, present day, would start wondering to which degree this story is true. Despite the taboo and the natural frowning upon magic within Hammerfell, during her lonesome years Sahar willingly absorbed the sorcery that can lie within the sandstorms and the blaze of the scorching sun, and nowadays her swordplay seems laced with destructive magic which she, despite her experience and training, does not fully comprehend herself.

Rumours (true and untrue):

* Evil tongues in Gilane sneer that Sahar left her home because of a forbidden love with one of her father's stable boys.

* A guard once said she no longer needs to drink water ever since she spent years in the desert.

* It is said she is afraid of thunderstorms.

* Some people say Sahar made a pact with the sun years ago, when she was lost in the scorching dunes of the Alik'r Desert - her life in return for her devotion.

* It is whispered the henna patterns on her skin - which she always maintains - are in truth spells, not just decoration.

* In some settlements she is no longer welcome, because the locals believe her to be a witch.

* The General who lost Dusk to Sahar still wants her head - a sore loser, indeed.

* Red and gold are her favourite colours.

* She likes anise and a drop of honey in her wine.

* It's whispered she was courted by a Djinn once.

* They say Sahar carries a bunch of letters with her which she has never sent.

* It's said Sahar lived among the johads for a time, helping those who gather water. She's still rumoured to have friends among the tribes.

* She seems to love gathering pebbles and stones, for no known reason.

* Some people say Sahar is very skilled at snake charming, a form of entertainment for the daring all over Hammerfell.

"Do not look for Sahar of Gilane, for when the time is right she will cross your path. It is futile, my friend, to use a candle to look for the sun."
~ Karim of Sentinel, corsair of the Iliac Bay

"Do it. Strike. It is a good day to die at the hands of beauty."
~ Unknown

"My sister is dead."
~ Bahral of Gilane

Recent Activity:

After having surfaced in the city of Sentinel again after a period of almost a year among the nomadic tribes of the Alik'r, Sahar finds herself fresh out of plans. When her contact Karim informs her a deal she was hoping to make with a captain of the Iliac Bay has gone awry, she contemplates visiting her friend Moriah, since it's been years, though her mind seems restless, ever full of wanderlust and in search of more purpose. It is then that Karim mentions the Kynaran Order, a company of the Covenant stationed right outside the city. Even though she is not one for politics, Sahar's interest is peaked and she decides to seek them out.

She finds herself becoming part of the encampment within days and even though one could not call it a fond friendship just yet, and more a case of finding common ground, Sahar and the Patriarch of the order, Tecca, share talks about the desert, swordplay and strategy.

When a messenger brings word of a company being betrayed and held hostage deep in the desert, Tecca assembles a small group of entrusted people to ride into the wastes, in a desperate attempt to return the men home and rebuke this slight. Sahar is among them...

Updated her background slightly along with some other details - still working on details regarding her time in Gilane and her relationships within her family. I, however, will always prefer details to be revealed through roleplay rather than toss it all out here.

She has made a trip or two to other countries, in which she was confronted with a terrible thing called rain. Her inns/places of shelter weren't always the sturdy kind ;)

Another interesting bio: it doesn't have to be a traumatic moment that sets our characters off on wandering journeys, sometimes it can just be in their nature. I like the explanation of her sorcerers powers, rather than using 'conventional' magic. Gives her a feeling of 'otherness' while allowing (I presume) in game magical combat.

Thanks Thorfinn! And yeah, definitely - Sahar is a simple case of wanderlust and curiosity that made her set off in the first place :)
