Over at the temporary official site, they are discussing the possibility of ship travel in TESO. What are your thoughts on this? If you'd prefer actual ship travel to instant teleportation, please state why and how.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

If its similiar to Skyrim's carriage travel, then there's seriously no point. Since it's same as fast travel, or using wayshrines.

But actual ship travel would be a nice add. And maybe there would be some advantages in there, raiding pirates or something =)
You could have ship for your guild, as a sanctuary. you could evade enemies with ship, or attack ....

I like the idea of sailing on a ship for getting from Point A to Point B (not an instant travel version.) Sure, it may not be as easy and convenient as instant teleportation but there's something enjoyable about watching the world go by as the ship you're on sails through the ocean waters. It feels like you're actually traveling through a wide and open world rather than just trying to get things over with. The experience may get old with time, much like all things, but the option to take it would be nice. Added bonus if something can happen during the voyage, like getting unexpectedly attacked by pirates, sea monsters, etc. (Heard older MMOs had something like this.)

In terms of how, I'd expect to see it as a perpetual automated service that takes a pre-set route between two ports. Although it'd be nice to be able to sail the ship yourself, I don't think that will occur in this game. I would like to see the number of load screens kept to a minimum though, as they tend to break up the pacing of the entire trip.

Character Profiles:
Endaros Ilmori - Buoyant Armiger
Sunrio - Aldmeri Justiciar

Taren Jucanis - Imperial Deserter (Used for The Black Shroud RP)

I think they might let us choose, so if you have no interest in watching the scenery then you can choose to skip the ride. if you want random pirate or faction attacks then you can. i you choose to sail in real time then you could jump of swim around then climb back aboard, or if you were to far from the ship to climb on then you could teleport aboard. as for airships, i highly doubt they'll consider this an option as there's never been air travel in Tamriel.

There was mention at the temporary official site of guild ships; I don't know where they are getting their information or if that was just somebody's wish.

HorizonSeeker - spoken like a true seeker of horizons. Since there is only the one Summerset Isle that I know of in the lands we will be alloted at launch, I'd like to see a ship route where you could jump overboard if neccessary beecause there are some islands SW of Valenwood that may bear exploration.

It was also stated that short ship travel would be preferrable to longer travel times like some older games used to have. There was one game called Return to Crondor that used to have a flying sea bird-monster attack the people on ship deck. Don't know if there'll be anything so fancy if ZOS does ship journeys. Maybe pirates - that'd be cool.

Edit* There may be smaller ship/boat voyages in the DC and EP areas, you never know. There is a bay between Daggerfall and High Rock. And Vvadenfell and Morrowind are a peninsula.

I enjoyed the ship rides in FFXI, FFXIV.
Also being attacked on occasion by pirates, jellies, and sometimes an NM.
The length of the ride was inconvenient at times, but not too inconvenient.

Yes, we don't want to take up too much time just sittting around on ship deck. But if there is adventure going on that would make the time go faster.

Now I consider navel combat and the navy my speciality, my subject that I'm brilliant at. Can't wait for AC4 for its navel combat system, its the game I've wanted since I was 8. Anyway navel exploration WILL NOT be added to this game. If they were they would have to suspend the game by about 2 years. Navel exploration and battles hasn't really been done before because navel battles and exploration takes so much time to animate and develop, it's really expensive. To be honest I don't really care for navel combat in this game because navel combat isn't that refined in TES.

Well, I would be happy with a cutscene, with my char standing on the ship and then you see the ship moving away from the harbour and the scene fades out black. Then you have the other harbour and the ship moves into it.

But of course this won´t happen. There are no cutscenes in an Elder scrolls game (except arena and daggerfall ;)).

But this is an mmorpg. It could happen. Something will have to get us out to the Summerset Isle and back. Thing is, it's only the one island that is playable ... so I don't think that this is going to be a real big deal, certainly no naval battles. Tamriel is all continent except for the Summerset Isles.

It's just a question of how will they get us there. Teleportation or boat travel?

Probably both, wayshrine and boat/ship. But in that matter it doesn't matter to me.

What i was hoping was that there would be somekind quest's involving a ship ... And the guild ship sounds nice.

If I get a lot of boating options, I will without a doubt be a pirate!

An Argonian pirate!?! That is absol-trickin-lutely frightening!!! Why did you say that, Avidus! Now I'll have nightmares. Oh the things an Argonian pirate could do ....
