The question's in the name!
I have Skyrim, it's the only TES game I have ever played (embarrassing, I know), but now that I'm getting more into the series (what with TESO coming out), I feel like I should play another game of the series, Oblivion!
Now, the only thing discouraging me is the graphics, and I know that graphics don't make a game, but it's the only thing holding me back.
Anyway, I am willing to overcome that setback if you guys help me! Do you think I should get Oblivion, and if so, why?
Also, you could tell me if you prefer it over skyrim too, but the first question is the big one ;)

Oblivion. Yes, It answers so many questions, and you see blades being more awesome, and there's an arena faction and there's so many more great things about it! Just look at a review and you will find it's awesome!

Yes and No. On the one hand, it's a great game. and you'll enjoy playing it. On the other hand, it's pretty much the worst out of the main games. If you love the series and have enough cash, you should buy it, though I would recommend getting Morrowind instead.

Yes, I absolutely prefer it to Skyrim. On a side note, I personally think the graphics are just fine. Morrowind is one you might have issues with if you place a high value on graphical detail, but I'd also reccomend playing it, and you can do so with oblivion graphics if you use Morroblivion.

Anyway, here's a screnshot of Oblivion:

And one of Skyrim:

Worst of the main games? Why?

That was pretty much my thought. Play Oblivion on ultra, and you're going to find that Skyrim wasn't exactly revolutionary in the graphics department. They did a *really* good job that still competes well with today's graphics.

And although a lot of people find Oblivion to be their least favorite TES game, you don't see anyone disliking it. If you've played Skyrim, it could make sense to go 'backwards' - that is, play Oblivion, then Morrowind. Beyond that, if graphics are important, you will simply hate Daggerfall and Arena. Great plots, but there's not much you can do to upgrade graphics that where designed for windows 3.1...

Yet, Arena and Daggerfall are the only free ones.
Oh, such sadness...
I've been tempted to get Arena, actually XD, just to see Black Marsh and Elsweyr :3

Epic - Oblivion is pratically free too though... It's 20 bucks on steam, or you can spend half that on eBay and get a disc & box too. Here - 11 bucks shipped, GOTY edition - http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Elder-Scroll...3a7fd153f3

Ok, new question.
If you like Oblivion, and recommend it, please explain to me why!
What features do you like about it? Why should I get it even if I already have skyrim?

i don't want to! i don't want to ruin any surprises! all that i will say is that the quests i feel (and i know many others feel the same) are much much better in oblivion. a certain quest chain is fantastic! trust me friend :) try not to ruin any of the surprises by getting details and get this game ^-^

Yes, you should buy Oblivion.
Skyrim is great, the gameplay improved a lot since Oblivion, principally the battles (in Oblivion are a little stiff) and the level system. But about the plot and the missions Oblivion is a lot better. Really, the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim disappointed me because compare to Oblivion their missions are too simple and the plot don't good enough.
I like more the Oblivion's magic system due their diversity and Oblivion has a Arena ;)

But, to me the best TES is Morrowind, i recommend and about the graphic exist excellent patch to it.

Well, the quests are good and the world is beautiful, though the graphics aren't as good as in skyrim I found cyrodiil more beautiful. Also I would get it just for the dark brotherhood, they are awesome and the friendliest guild despite being assassins. Also the horses are better then in skyrim, you have different speeds, and the vampires are more stereotypical burn in the sunlight type so it makes it harder and more fun. The mages guild is good because you have to do lots of smaller quest before getting to the main guild and you feel more a part of it as you get your own staff. Though if you find terrain boring if it stays the same boring this is not the best but you could live with it, it's definitely worth it. And one last thing the daedric princes quests are good, especially sheogoraths. I would go for it, you're missing out if you don't!

Oblivion is enjoyable. However, although there are good plots many of the quests are repetative and unchallenging. A lot just consist of talking to people several times to result in a somewhat easy fight at the end. There are a few good quests and quest lines but compared to the majority...
And Cyrodiil is basically a big forest. A really big forest. With caves. And more forest.

Honestly, get it. It will keep you entertained and maybe you will enjoy it more that I did. I know its a big split for ES fans. However, if you want past games to try out go for Morrowind. Graphics are relatively bad but a couple of mods can fix that.
