I've heard everywhere that you can be anything and weild/wear anything.
I was just wondering about ideas people have about the need for a skill cap.

My idea was a talent pool of 1000 pts with a skill cap of 200 to master. That means a max of 5 skills with 200 skill point in each.
If one decided to level another skill they would have to drop one of the 5 skills to free the skill points.
Any combo of skills would still be possible but someone would not be master of all skills.

Example maybe would be:

Archery - 200
Two-Hand - 200
Heavy Armor - 200
Restoration - 200
Sneak - 200

Like adding limiters? No thanks.
Grabbing and using any weapon is what I expected when hearing TES was gonna do an MMO. If it didn't have that, I'd leave.

All weapons and armor can only be upgraded by approximately 8-10 levels.
The more you use an item/piece of armor, the more your skill in that type of equipment levels up.

This allows you to gain expertise in, lets say a sword and shield, but allows you to freely upgrade either of those 2 equipment pieces with a more advanced piece without having to start your experience with those tools back at 0.

It's basically going to work very similar to the way Skyrim did, if you played that game... except you won't be looking into the stars to add a perk to anything you want; it will be based on how often you level the respective skill.

This is what we've been told, and the system looks like it will work flawlessly.

Personally I want a skill cap because I don't want to be fighting a mage who has 400 destruction, considering the fact that I was a hybrid, and have all my skills balanced out. Think about it, lets say I have 50 sword, 75 two hand, 100 archery, 25 sneak, 50 restoration, 100 destruction. I can only use one weapon in pvp at a time, while the other person has a constant 400. I would be much better for pvm, but the other guy with 400 destruction would own in pvp.

Im afraid thats just the nature of choosing between a hybrid or a focused build, Dreamer. There should never be any one build thats good for everything. What fun would that be?

We're all gona have to make that decision. We're all gona have to decide whether to focus on a specific build or make a hybrid, then live with that decision. I do believe there has to be a skill cap of some sort though. Its just not feasable, balance or mechanics whise, to not have one.

Skill caps i have a feeling will be introduced because of time constraints people have, the students and unemployed that have 70-80+hours a week will not be able to compete with those that do a 9-5 job, they will instantly dominate both the PvE and PvP circuit, would be good if before each battleground you could have different load outs based on what skills you have already acquired, so pvp capped, pve uncaped unless facing another member of a different faction during world PvP would be fair i think to keep the tables balanced, they have already said everyone in the battlegrounds will get scaled up to the highest level to balance things out, the only thing you don't get are the higher level abilities, only the HP and MP. I Cannot see TOSO allowing characters to have max skills and all professions on one character, unless they counter it like stopping mages casting if wearing plate armour or seriously hinder its power, rouges making more noise etc

There will already be enough limitations in ESO as it is. I'd like the class system to at least be as sandboxy as possible.

There is a link in my signature, please have a look and get some insight into character progressions (yes, plural is correct). Your post gives no sense at all, its not Skyrim

A lot of these posts make absolutely no sense considering how they've said they plan on doing the progression, and serve no purpose other than causing misinformation. Come on people, think and do some research before mindlessly posting.

As Terminus said: basically, just like Skyrim.
