Sneaking Mechanics

Just read this in post by Zeakfury:

"Stealth Mode can be used by everyone but will drain stamina
In Stealth Mode you will appear like a shade to allies
In Stealth Mode you will be invisible to enemies to within a certain range (called the detection range)
In Stealth Mode inside detection range you will appear like a shade to an enemy
You are immediately taken out of Stealth Mode when damaged"

What does everyone think about this? Is it done right? Should it be changed?

Looks good for now... But, if you think about it, you also had something similar to "detection range" in Skyrim. It was the closest you could go near an enemy without him realizing you`re there. With sneak skill and use of Illusion you could further decrease the distance up to a point where you could easily walk to them (under Invisibility at least), stand right in front of them and not be seen.. perfect for the slit-throat animation.

Not really much to say on it, though it is massively important for me as I love stealth.
I like it so far :D
Maybe I'll add some Predator sound effects sometimes, lol.

I'm worried about the stamina drain and hope it is mild. If they are so set on having stamina drain, I'd like to see a system where the stamina drains only as you move, but also will slowly regen as you crouch in place. Basically a system that allows for perma-stealth if still and perma-stealth if you are really patient and don't mind moving that slow. I really want the game to allow people to position ambush groups in Cyrodiil (and for everyone in the game to have the option no matter build).

For perks or effects as sneak skill improves I'd like to see something that lessens stamina cost on movement and an increase to movement speed.

@decoy There will surely be perks that do that. Also, maybe some that make casting of every (insert number)th spell silent and such.

I agree. I think at first it shouldn't drain more than 5 stamina points per second. Then as we level it up, it should work its way down to 2 per sec or even 1. I am pretty impressed that they are allowing it to make us invisible though. Surely, lighting will play a huge role.

Depends on what will your starting stats be. I mean, in Skyrim you start with 100 hitpoints, magicka and stamina..

I myself am hoping for Hide & Sneak. Hide is pretty much immobile stealth, and wouldn't drain stamina, second you move it turns to sneak, which drains stamina.

Also Hiding would be easier for even those with heavy armor, where as the guy with medium / heavy armor won't have that good of a sneak.

Also, the game really requires stealth counters, such as increased detection ranges, reveal invisible spells and what not.

Doesn't, the detection is ruled by artificial detection range, at least now.

I'm hoping the detection range can be altered with perks as well or a racial trait, maybe. I think having a static detection range for all races/classes would be a little discouraging, even in PvP.

I like this system, i am hoping for bonuses for Spells or Healing when done from stealth and when you are not detected, I also completly agree on creating tools to help your detection, like items or Spells points and foods, to boost detection range.

So, heavy armor is for tanks/dps melee/battlemages with heavy armor, medium armor is for stealthy playstyle and light armor is for... ranger sorcerers ?

Im just guessing but id bet the Night Blade class brings something to the sneak table as well. Could be something like better detection for yourself, but if you wanted the best of the best with sneak Night Blade is probablly a contributer

Speaking of Medium Armor, have you seen anyhing thats lists all the bonuses it brings? in last week ive heard quite a few thing from Medium armor, Sneaking, Damage, Stamnina, Movement Speed
