Well, my g/f decided to walk out the front door whilst holding my $1,700 gaming PC that I custom built a couple years ago, saying that she was leaving me cause I play games to much??? At least she left my laptop.

Thank God she is gone now I can game in peace!!!! And start downloading Skyrim on XBOX while thinking of what components to buy to build my next PC.

I am thinking an AMD processor with a NVIDIA 680 graphics, anyone got any ideas for a mother board?

You should get one of the new i7' 4770K with a Z87 MB and SLI 680's. You could also cram in some 32 Gb's of 2400 Mhz DDR3's, or even 2600 Mhz.

EDIT: Also, 2 Raid 0 500Gb SSD's for your system.

What kind of recommendation is this? Waste of money on the rest of the component but skimpomg om the most important thing... Stop copy and pasting bits and pieces from google.

On topic: get current GTX 780 and read my pc guide for the ram, cpu amd power supply. As for the board, pick a cpu platform first then decide on a compatible board that has every features you will need. More details in mu guide, good luck.

I would be recommending 780's if they were currently price-worthy, unfortunately they are, at least where I live, priced at twice the amount of a single 680 OC.
While I haven't seen any comparisons of that specific combination (680 SLI vs a single 780), I don't think shelling out that much would give you such an edge.

EDIT: The part about 32 Gb of memory if mostly in jest, you will do fine with a lot less.
Also, a larger SSD will outperform a smaller SSD with the same chip/architecture in write-speed due to bursting data to all chips simultaneously.

So you are concerned about the price difference of 680 and 780 but you suggesting a waste of money for Raid 0 500GB SSDs? I'm sorry but raiding SSDs provide a neglible difference maybe shows in benchmark but in reality you will get +0.1% more performance spending more money rather just than throwing that money to a 780 vice 680 and get up to +40% more performance.

Your reasoning is similar to this: "buy 2k USD rims for your 1.5K USD car."

It seems that you and I have different reasonings regarding what's worth spending money on. Myself I prioritize on the SSD's due to that I would exchange the GPU more often than the disks, thus the initial prioritization of spending. Further, a 250 or 500 Gb Samsung 840 SSD is, right now, really affordable.

Wait so you bout the parts for the PC built it and then she took it and left you, why not just get it back unless you gave it to her or something?

This logic would make sense if you didn't recommend RAID 0... RAID 0 (striping) would only make your benchmark results higher but no real world performance gain (or neglible). The downside is you will have to spend twice as much for SSDs and double the failure rate.

I upgrade my system a lot but I never considered keeping RAID 0. I only tried it once for benchmark scores.

Or you just get one HDD or SDD and the GTX 680 SLI and you will do fine, without giving too much money away, 8-12Gb would do it perfect.
Even an i5 processor will do or any i7 also, one of AMD will do the work too.

That is ofcourse if you want a good performance for a low as reasonable price! If you don't care about the money you can do all of the above things :)
