Starting area landscapes?

I was wondering what type of landscape each faction will be starting in. I don't especially like deserts/wastelands in mmos. I try to avoid areas like them, examples like the original barrens/desolace in WoW, Shimmersand in Rift or pretty much all the Asmodian areas in Aion.

I don't know much about the Elder Scrolls world yet, so I'm not familiar with the areas of the factions. Are any of them like what I've mentioned, I find starting characters in these types of areas leads me to getting bored of the character quickly.

Daggerfall Covenant will have Alik'r Desert and Ebonheart Pact is going to have the frozen wastelands of Skyrim...I believe that the environment you're gonna like is the one of the Aldmeri Dominion

Ahhh ok, I've kind of been forced to play characters from desolated areas in previous games, due to the guild I was in, but I'm thinking of finally going with what I enjoy the most this time.

i actually think that wastelands make great landscapes in MMOs. why? Because you dont have to put too many trees and such there.
Why is that a good thing?
Because MMO technology struggels with having alot of Objects at the same time, especialy with draw distances.

with things like long plains and deserts, the graphics can shine, seeing a huge rolling plain before you, in an MMORPG is a truly great expirience.

As a result of these things, there are only 2 ways in wich you can make MMORPGs work.
1. Have a very detailed world that is cluttered up in tiny spaces, such as guild wars 2. or
2. have a world with less detail but very open. TERA did that alot, with huge valleys and plains, looks fantastic.

I think both have their faults and their benefits. I supose TESO should go both routes. In some Provinces, a more secludet, smaller scale but more detailed aproach would do good, especialy valenwood or Black Marsh where you have alot of trees blocking your sight anyway, so draw distance is a non issue. Instead focus on the detail of the massive forest and what lurks within.

In provinces like Hammerfell the Deserts should be highlighted, letting you see them stretch to the Horizon. Also this should be noted in the Sumurset islands, i want to see Barren lands with HUGE absoluteley impossible buildings suddenly emerging out of the desolate landscape.

Don't worry if you saw latest video from Zenimax, they said that desserts will be full of denger wild life and lots of critens or exotic plants, so it wont be just wasteland. I had same fears as you, but i am more reassured now.

I dunno, I kind of suffer from a bit of agoraphobia irl, guess that's translated into the mmo world. I really don't seem to like the long empty stretches.

Then join the dominion, we offer a large forest here in valenwood... and....

whatever is in the other areas... i think Elsweyr (sorry for spelling) might have deserts b/c of "warm sands"
As for summerset... I have no clue.

become a bosmer and wander the vast forests of Valenwood.

sumurset is an alien land completeley dominated by the Altmer. you wont see any traditional "nature" there. Rather mathematically correct shapes. Well groomed flora. Impossible buildings. stuff like that.

I guess I'll have to see, I was leaning towards Daggerfall because they are an underdog atm, but I've made the same decisions in the past and well Its never turned out well.

the forests of Valenwood will be amazing, and if they have Migrating trees or even just the huge rooted villages in the branches its going to be unlike anywhere else. Plus Summerset architecture.
