Alright lore experts, excuse my ignorance, but I have a question for you! After I created my guild "Lowly Knights of Stendarr" I started thinking, since TESO takes place in a time before all the other games, does Stendarr even exist in the time when TESO takes place? Any insight will be helpful, guys. Thanks!

Yes, Stendarr (Stuhn to the Nords and S'rendarr to the Khajiit) is one of the original Aedric aspects, so he does already exist.

By arrow. By blade.
By tooth. By claw.
By shock. By frost. By flame.
The Aldmeri Dominion will dominate Tamriel.
Our enemies will fall until the Throne is ours.

Yes, he does. Stendarr originated from the Nordic deity Stuhn, and was 'created' in the form known in the Second Era by the Alessian Order at the beginning of the First Era.

He's an Elven god as well.

Indeed? I always assumed he was one of the nordic gods implemented to assuage Alessia's Nordic allies. Though I suppose putting together elven and nordic gods into one form worked equally well for what Alessia had to do with the divines.

Well, Varieties of Faith in the Empire lists Stendarr as an Altmeri god, and UESP says he was an "apologist of men" in Altmeri legends. However, UESP also says that Stuhn fought the Elven gods alongside Shor (Lorkhan) and was his shield-thane. I guess it's technically possible both stories could be true if Stuhn was an both apologist of humans and Shor's shield-thane.

Stendarr was Stuhn who was Shors shield-thane in the war against the Elven gods. In the Nordic pantheon he was the God of Ransom. Later he became ''Stendarr", the God of Mercy, to the majoriy of people in Tamriel.

Yeah it's true that Stendarr is also "an Elven god". I guess the khajiit and the elves revered to the same kind of God of Mercy and all kind of had the same name.

Anyway Stendarr as we know him (one of the now Eight Divines) does excist, to answer your question.

I guess you could look at it this way:

After Shor/Lorkhan was killed, Stuhn/Stendarr found a "new calling" in helping all mortals, not just humans.
