Strange request

I decided to draw myself and added a little elven flavor into it, turned out pretty good but there is one problem. None of the digital pictures did justice. It looks a lot better in real life.

I tried to use a scanner and tried several different settings but the picture kept losing a few shades and details. The picture below was taken from my phone and it yielded the best result. However the black is no longer black and the white is no longer white.

I don't even know if it's possible but can anyone make the darkest part black and the lightest white without losing the shades? I tried adjusting contrast but I kept losing the shades.

Also I would like to keep the original feel, so please don't smooth it out or make it look "prettier". I don't want it to lose it's texture.

Thanks in advance!

Holy crap that was fast and what did you use? I tried doing the same but I was losing details and shades. Now that's justice!

Big thanks man!

No problem!

I used Photoshop. Duplicated the layer twice, and added Overlay to them.

I need to learn how to use photoshop. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult, I just havent really messed with it. It will help me deliver my work from paper to the internet in full detail.

I used to design character weapons and armors but I couldn't present my work as well as photoshop experts.

Well I couldn't help but to make changes when I saw the sheet of paper while I was at work. The outline around the ears were bothering me I had to change it...
