Name: Sunrio

Race: Altmer

Age: 71 (Born 2E 511, First Seed)

Origin: Alinor, Summerset Isle

Birth-Sign: The Lord

Occupation: Justiciar

Relatives: Toliqar, Father. Aeyarie, Mother. Nemrie, Younger Sister.

Brief description of appearance: Sunrio is a tall altmer with hawkish facial features and pale blonde hair. His amber eyes hold sincerity and focused discipline that should ideally be found amongst agents of the Aldmeri Dominion. A scar left by a blade extends across the right side of his face to the bottom of his chin, a grave reminder of a darkened night.

He wears either the signature robes of a justiciar or the ornamental armor of an Aldmeri soldier, depending on the situation or when it’s deemed appropriate.

Religious point of view: Follows the Aldmeri Pantheon as revered by his people, although very rarely does he find himself praying for their grace.

Political point of view: He finds merits in both the Aldmeri Dominion’s divine right to rule as well as the desire for independence by the other races. He’s quite conflicted on what side is truly right, no doubt influenced by his education in the Imperial City. Still, he expresses the utmost loyalty to the Aldmeri Dominion.

Loves: The Imperial City, Alinor, Rain

Hates: Injustice, Boasting

Background: Born to a family with notable political affiliations in Alinor, Sunrio lived a comfortable life in the capital city of the Summerset Isles. Expected to become a powerful mage, he moved to the Imperial City to be educated at the Arcane University, the foremost center of magical learning in all of Tamriel.

In 2E 558, he was nearing the end of his studies at the University. But before they were completed he was recalled to the Summerset Isles due to political unrest concerning his father. In order to quell the situation, he volunteered himself to military service as a gesture of good faith and loyalty to the crown on the behalf of his family.

Although never intending or wanting to become a soldier, Sunrio was nonetheless talented at both spell and blade and swiftly became a respected spellsword amongst the Aldmeri ranks.

On one of his later assignments, he was tasked with accompanying an infamously zealous justiciar in apprehending a Nord who had stolen secret knowledge from the Crystal Tower. When the two made their move at a secluded home in the wilds, the Nord attacked Sunrio with a war axe, forcing him to defend himself. It wasn’t until after he slashed his elven blade across his foe’s torso, delivering a fatal blow, that he noticed a young girl standing in the shadows staring towards him. Her horrified eyes were filled with tears as she trembled. Sunrio had cut down her father in front of her very eyes.

The Justiciar, suspecting that she was shared the stolen secrets, ordered him to slay her as well in order to protect the sanctity of the Crystal Tower. When he refused to harm a mere child, the Justiciar prepared to do the task himself but was stopped when Sunrio embedded the fallen nord’s war axe into his spine, killing him instantly.

Feeling pity for the child, he went to offer her help to find safety and refuge. But when he came close to her she drew a hidden dagger and slashed him across the face before fleeing into the night. The encounter left a scar that Sunrio would bear for the rest of his life.

When he returned to his superiors in Alinor, he fabricated a story on how he managed to fully complete their mission during which the Justiciar tragically lost his life to an ambush. It was then and there that he was promoted to take the position of his fallen comrade.

Twenty years later, Sunrio finds himself to be somewhat of a specialist amongst the justiciars and is frequently sent across Tamriel to complete various assignments. With the Alliance War on the horizon, he has redoubled his efforts to aid the Dominion. But despite the many rising evils and threats across the land, Sunrio cannot shake the feeling that there is a shadow out there somewhere, looking for him and him alone.

wow. love the story, i absolutely love the fact that he went against his orders and even killed one of his own to help the little girl and was rewarded with a slash across the face!. love that we have a cool altmer character and that you haven't fallen into the trap and made him a snob.
i wont mention about 'challenges for your character' because i know you like to naturally show them off through writings outside of your bio :)

so you mention he loves the imperial city, has the imperials rubbed of on Sunrio? or is he an altmer through and through? he hates injustice but he follows he own sense of justice, if you know what i mean. instead he saved the little girl, killed an 'ally' and now has a scar across his yellow face :P. (don't worry i personally am on Sunrio's side and won't kill a little girl if ordered :P) but i doubt the zealot see's it as justice when you planted the axe in his spine and even Sunrio must know, somewhat deep down that he did wrong because he had to lie to his peers.
As you can see i love that part so much i'm discussing it so much :P

good work horizon, looking forward to seeing this character grow and expand, keep it up ^-^

Thanks for the comments Quib!

The issue is I'm more of a "one main" type of guy, so I'm not sure how active this character may be in TESO or outside writings. We'll see though.

The over arching theme to this character is that plans don't always work out and life is proned to making unexpected turns. He never wanted to become a soldier, but he ends up as a ranked officer. He saves the life of a child, but he's punished with a slash to the face. He thoroughly betrays an ally, but he's rewarded with a promotion to take the role of the one he killed. In a way, each decision has left him with something that he will carry forever. It's definitely a bit muddled in terms of morality, and kind of tragic in a "Wow... that's messed up," kind of way. There's definitely some challenges in his character with that, as he's haunted by more than a few things.

The Imperials and their ideals definitely rubbed off on him in some way, which has him questioning his political loyalties. He's not at the point where he's totally torn between sides-- but with a little push, who knows what he might do.

And of course justice is always a subjective matter! Many see what's just and unjust in different lights. When Sunrio betrayed the Justiciar, he wasn't completely sure if it was the right thing to do so that eats away at him. Then he had to come to the choice of either telling the truth or lying-- and when the pressure was on he made the decision.

This character is actually a modified version of the backstory for my Elder Scrolls VI: Skyrim character. Lots of details changed, but when it came to telling the truth on the betrayl he admitted it, and then was exiled (or escaped, it changes in my mind frequently) before ending up in Skyrim down the road. So it's interesting to see what he may have been like if he had lied instead, and thus remained with the Dominion. (Even though they're different eras of course, but his personal story is very similar.)

Altmer can be snobs of course-- but they can also be more than that which I wanted to depict.

And that's it with my rant!

Loving Sunrio , it's good he is an honorable character and won't allow his superiors to break his strict moral code.

I have an idea of who this shadow is , and i'm guessing they will recognize him by the scar on his face ;)

Nice inversion of the typical revenge story! His tastes are certainly diverse, but he doesn't appear to be split in his loyalties. Also nice to have a Justicar actually concerned with justice and honour rather than the more negative implications from Skyrim. All in all another really nice character, different without making his difference something completely unavoidable and dominating.

Love it! I was wondering if you were planning on making a character of the girl, or if you had tied it in with someone else. If you don't have either, I would love to make it and play it. I think it would be a great concept if it's not already taken.

As a side note this character would give Grrwarr fits. An Altmeri that isn't like all the rest. His hatred works because "the Altmeri are all the same." We have got to have these two meet some time.

I've noticed I've always been one for subtlety with base themes than flashy with special themes. So I'm glad the character is distinct without seeming overbearing.

And for the revenge story the quote, "No good deed goes unpunished" comes to mind. There are two sides to every story, and it's more common to see the perspective from only one side unfortunately.

I'm not sure if I'll be RPing this character out in game, but I wouldn't want to have that storyline unfold until the game is released. The plot is in a hibernation state for now-- but if I do ever have the other character come up, I'd hope it would be the main of someone and fit flawlessly into their backstory.

We'll see if Sunrio pops up in some RP sometime in the future! Got to get these two I'm juggling finished with first.

Look forward to the meeting between Grrwarr and Sunrio. I believe that will be epic. Hope we can RP them sometime.
