Tarot readings

As it happens, I do the occasional tarot reading when I get the chance. Those chances aren't as often as I'd like, though, at least proper readings. So I think I'll open it up to the people here to request one. I'm a bit out of practice with it, so I can't guarantee they'll be very good ones. But, hey, maybe the cards can make up for my failings. :)

I'll try to get some done fairly often, but don't expect more than one or two a day or so, since it's just when I get some spare time for it.

Count only the happy hours.

Alright. We'll go with the simple and traditional cross for this one.

The center card is The Empress inverted, crossed by the Seven of Coins. The first (in its inverted state) usually represents the repression of emotion or desire, but the fact that it appears with the other, which refers to accomplishment, leads to another interpretation, that of the completion of emotion, or perhaps catharsis.

Below this lies The Tower, implying that this came out of some sudden change or break with the past. The fact that the next card clockwise, showing passing influences, is the Five of Swords inverted, sheds some light on the nature of this break - it is something connected to a feeling of helpless despair or defeatism.

The next card is the Page of Coins, in the position of the effect the current situation is likely to bring about. The full interpretation of this one will have to wait until the final card is shown, so I'll wait until then to explain further.

The final card of the main cross, the future influence, is The Magician. In this situation I believe it refers to inspiration, or to aid from another.

The card of your influence is the Four of Wands, the card of optimism - an interesting contrast to the Tower and the Five of Swords. However, the next card shows the true source of those two: the card of the influence of others is the Five of Coins inverted, meaning a general feeling of confusion or disorder around you. Following is the Eight of Cups, the leaving of a familiar situation due to a realization that it is likely to change.

The final card, the one that brings all the others together, is an ominous one - the Ace of Cups inverted. It is the card of losses, the unfortunate times in life. The fact that this is placed in a position that compares with the Page of Coins is a curious one - that one generally refers to the enjoyment of work or study for its own merits. As such, I believe the overall meaning is this: While the current situation is one that should lead to satisfaction with ones work, something has occured that has already somewhat brought about and will ultimately lead to misfortune and depression. The important factor will be discovering what the problem is before it is too late, and leaving its cause behind. You obviously have some power to bring about a positive and happy outcome, once you know how.

Interesting, I could see it relating to my life with my dog recently passing and one of my parents ill and aging and my overall bad mood due to those circumstances. Thank you for the reading Margie.

I've always been curious as to how some of the cards come out upside down, shouldn't they all be the right way up when the deck is shuffled and cut?

What Tarot Deck are you using? ...are you sleeping with your deck? Have you allowed others to touch your deck? And you feel that you can give accurate readings over the internet so far removed from the inquisitors aura?

........*best Morpheus impression* hmph..interesting.

A tarot deck isn't (usually) vertically symmetrical like a modern card deck, especially ones purposefully made for readings. So when they appear upside down it changes the meaning, not necessarily to the opposite but with some significant difference.

As for the version I use, most of the time it's the usual Rider Waite-Smith, though I have a Marseilles deck for when I feel like I should use that one instead.

Also, I've been a bit sick recently and thus unable to concentrate enough to do a proper reading, but I should be able to do some over the next couple days. :)

The Thoth deck always seemed to call to me more so than Alfred's deck did.

We'll go with something different this time - not one of the big traditional spreads, but a simple one that I can easily make sense of.

The base, representing the one the reading is about, is the King of Wands. This card represents someone who is energetic, but an energy controlled and channeled into a useful path, particularly a social one.

Above it are three cards representing past influences. The one directly above, referring to your direct influence, is the Nine of Swords inverted, a symbol of receiving some negative action from another that causes fear or anger. To its right are The Lovers, which in this case means precisely what it sounds like - the influence of love or a relationship from the past. On the other side, the left, is one that's appeared before, The Empress inverted. Once again, this means the repression of emotion, and more specifically here the emotions another had repressed in the past.

The two cards above are the cards of the present, each extending from the two cards below it. The right card is the Queen of Wands; considering the presence of the King of Wands as the card representing you, it most likely refers to some highly important (likely female) figure in your life, most likely one you are in a relationship with, or should be (the fact that it comes from The Lovers is especially telling here). However, remember that it also extends from the Nine of Swords - the negative emotion represented by that card is affecting them as well. To the left is Temperance inverted. As you might expect, this refers to the lack of temperance - the inability to find moderation. The triangle formed by this, the inverted Empress, and the inverted Nine of Swords is a reminder that emotion, like water, does not like to be pressed down, and will find some outlet if one attemps to push it down.

The final card, the future that comes from the two present cards, is quite the impressive one: Death, inverted. Naturally, that card doesn't literally mean "death" either way around - what this refers to is stasis, the refusal to change when change is called for. More fear, more repression, more extremes, but the presence of The Lovers and the Queen of Wands (which, after all, do not really stem from the negative parts) implies a situation that you may have good reason not to want to change, and flipping Death back upright - changing it to the card of change and renewal - may not necessarily be right thing to do. In fact, the true negative influence seems to come from the inverted Empress - finding the source of those repressed emotions may be the most important thing to do. Be careful, this is a tree that, if you wish to prune it, must be pruned quite carefully indeed.

When you have the time and feel well enough, I'm interested in having a reading done as well. I can wait my turn, no rush.
