It is Middas the 1st, of the Second Seed. And as I look from this lancet- I can see no clouds in the sky, nor any dew-laden blades of grass. Summer seems to be trying to come a month early, it seems.

Unfortunately, I doubt the spring will appreciate this brief usurpation of it's mantle. The showers will eventually return and we'll all be knee-deep in misery. You know, I never liked the bloom; the abundance of change that comes with it is absolutely bothersome. The rain muddies the terrain, and nature decides that it's perfectly acceptable to block pathways that our troops had carved out a year before with untraversable coppices.

It's very inconvenient, especially when our host is stationed in Valenwood. As for how the Bosmer adapt to that labyrinth? I doubt I shall ever know. My abhorrence for the place is so great, that I truly am considering as to whether or not I should publish a paper on how the 'Wood Elves' are probably providing the jungle's trees with a steady intake of Moon Sugar. For something to change like that so chaotically...narcotics have to be involved!

However, I digress. The veridical reason, the true reason, for why I write is because I wish to reminisce and evaluate.

For it is Middas the 1st, of the Second Seed.
And today is the day of the Vigyld-

Malos ended the sentence with a flourish of his quill. Today indeed was the day of the Vigyld and even though Artaeum had disappeared completely from the shores that surrounded Alinor, the Altmer had still held the Psijic's rites in high regard; as to appease the ancestor spirits of both major and minor varieties, was an ode to the Aldmeri antiquity and to embrace that past was to be a resistance against man and his blood-thirsty tendencies.

The Altmer uncorked a bottle of wine and poured the liquid into a silver-inlaid chalice, before swishing the alcohol around briefly in its cup and placing it back down on his table. He looked at it quizzically. It really has been too long since I've tasted the taste of refined liquor on my lips, he had thought, before bringing the chalice up to his mouth and taking a sip.

He let out a satisfactory breath. He had liked the sweetness of the wine, but could have done without the oak-like aftertaste. Malos had developed too sweet a tongue in his childhood, and so also an inadvertent disdain for anything of a bitter quality. It was many a score better than the Bosmeri 'Rotmeth' that he had been forced to drink whilst in Valenwood, however, and so he had no desire to complain. The Altmer nipped from his chalice again, savouring each sip as if the liquor were a type of ambrosia. He had missed the taste of home.

A sudden, abrupt breeze then vented through the window, bringing with it the pungent smell of the earth. Malos vexed as it broke his blissful trance and he grumbled over to close the lancet's sash. As he reached up to close the latch, however, he caught glimpse of a few figures below him. They were by his front door.

Malos heard a knocking downstairs, and so he turned and grumbled once more. He had intended to avoid confrontation, but of course, confrontation had not decided to avoid him.

Knock, knock.

The door rattled a bit this time and was accented with the sound of a few muffled voices. He couldn't make their noise out, but he hoped that they could at least hear his own.

"I'd rather you refrain from attempting to knock down my home," he called out, before turning back towards the lancet window. "Have patience, I'm coming."

And with that, the Altmer rushed down his staircase and unbolted his door.

This is why I always beg you to write more, Ark. You have such an amazing way of setting a scene, I'm jealous of your vocabulary and the way you convey images of taste, sound and demeanor. I know this is a snippet of the total thing, so PLEASE, post the rest soon :D

Thank you soooo much for reading this, Tris! Your comments mean so much, you have no idea.
And yeah, I intend to add more to this but I have no idea as to how.

Just keep going! Don't overthink, and go with the flow. You're honestly a way better writer than you even realize <3

very well done! loved the story! it was a good size, there wasn't pages of the stuff and it was an easy read (and that by no mean is an insult!) i have to agree with @Triskele you are really good! i think we are all our worst critic (wow i think thats the 6th time i said that this week!) so we potentially see flaws in our work that isn't even there!
keep it up ^-^

I definitely got the sense that Malos is a sophisticated and cultured Altmer, judging by the writing style and the words used. The language used in the letter, the description of the time and setting, and the savoring of the liquor all came together nicely to describe what I'd imagine to be ideal to Altmer society.

Good work! I'll forward to seeing more.

Obviously something like this.

Quote:The Altmer nipped from his chalice again, savouring each sip as if the liquor were a type of ambrosia. He had missed the taste of home... but more so he missed the taste of inferior offspring. Attaining an unwanted living baby from beneath his lectern, he began to munch on its cranium while contemplating his plans for destroying the entire known universe.

Such was the way he spent his Sundas afternoon.
