Thanks to Horizon Seeker for the picture.

General Information:

It is 2E 579. Across the length and breadth of Tamriel, following the pattern of times past and times yet to pass, darkness stirs. With it, all manner of heros rise to defend the weak, to seek out great challenges and write timeless legends. For some, however, this is not a time of glory and opportunity. For ordinary folk across the world of Tamriel, this is a time of fear and oppression, doubt and darkness. The small village of Whitewater, deep in the border hills between Skyrim and High Rock has been given a simple, chilling ultimatum. They must abandon the village, or they will die. Some have already left, taking what they can and fleeing, some north, some south. Those who remain refuse to be cowed, but they do not know what it is they face. If they knew, they too would have fled.

But they do not know; and they have not fled. Instead, they asked those who went south to Dragonstar to find men with gleaming weapons and grim faces. Those few have decided to fight for their lives, their livelihoods. They cannot offer much by way of payment. And they cannot rely on the authorities, for their village lies in no man’s land. With the rising tensions between the Covenant and the Pact, any military action could spark all-out war. This is where our story begins. A humble offering from a humble village. Where will it lead? Why is Whitewater so very important to whomever sent this message?

Applications are now closed. The IC thread can be found here

Greetings, welcome to 'The Black Shroud'. The setting has been described, but feel free to ask for any clarification you might desire. This will be a closed RP of modest pace: posts of depth and detail are certainly encouraged and I will be vetting applicants. I don’t intend to be a jackass though, so apply without fear! I intend this RP to be not entirely hack and slash. There may be a time when I give you clues and riddles which can only be unlocked with knowledge of lore. It might even need a little research! These tasks will be part of the main plot, necessary for it to progress. If you have an interest in the kind of thing, so much the better!

Here is a link to a map of Tamriel, which I'll use for referencing locations, distances to travel ect: Map

I will probably have around 5-6 spots open depending on how things pan out. Please post a bio or link below if you wish to apply!

Rules and Guidelines:

1.) No taking control of other poster's character. Some exceptions may apply to certain NPCs. I will detail this OOC, in this thread or in PM.
2.) This RP will move at a steady pace, however not too fast. This will give everyone a chance to post in depth, which is what I'm looking for.
3.) No killing of the main antagonists unless I state otherwise. (Probably through a PM)
4.) I'll control the occurance of most major events as to keep the story on track and smooth. If you have something you think could be worked in from your own character's backstory, please do send me a PM.
5.) If you need to take a break from the RP, let me know and we'll create a simple IC reason for your absence.
6.) Mind the actions of your characters! There may be IC consequences.

The Heros: A link to each participant’s bio for reference.

Joscelin Lauret – Played by Thorfinn
Morgan Le'chay - Played by Manarax
Sub Gro-Urb - Played by Idriar
Taren Jucanis - Played by Horizon Seeker
Dro-Xun-Jal - Played by Maxxrocker

The Antagonists: A brief description of the antagonists. This is OOC knowledge and should be treated as such until it is IC.

Lleyandra Meresi: the so called 'Bandit Queen', it is unknown what inducements have been offered to her that would warrant her involvement. A Dunmer, once of House Telvanni, she disappeared in Vivec City three years ago investigating necromancy. Several months ago she came to notice in High Rock, leading a band of merciless pillagers who have evaded defeat and capture at every turn. It was in her name that the threat to Whitewater was made, though her motive is unknown. (Deceased.)

Autherach: A Reachman chieftain of uncertain age, Autherach was always a strong, dangerous leader and a talanted warrior. Recently, however, his Reachmen have been eerily quiet. The chief himself has become a sorcerer of vile power, not only in the traditional hedge-magic of his people, but in other ways too. How he came by this power is unknown, what he intends to do with it, nobody can guess.

The Townsfolk: The local villagers who first hired the company have been slain during the night assault. They are now mindless servants of whoever is orchestrating these dark events.

Events of The Black Shroud:

Hired by a trader in Dragonstar, the Company set out on the three day journey high into the mountains, to the village of Whitewater. During the journey, several members of the group heard an ethereal singing, though they disagreed about what it sounded like. They arrived without incident in Whitewater, and discovered that a small watch-post of bandits maintained eyes on the village. Dissagreements came to light about how they should handle the situation.

That night the khajiit warrior, Do'Shanji, left against orders to clear out the small watchpost. He was overcome against his expectations and found himself chained in a cave high in the glen, surrounded but strange runes. Meanwhile, Morgan went after him and rescued him, escaping the clutches of a Reachman sorcerer and a hideous undead troll, whose connection to the bandits remained obscure.

As these events unfolded, Meresi's scouts advanced on the village, and Joscelin, Taren and Sub crossed the river to keep Meresi blind. They were successful, and returned with a captive not long before Morgan's spells brought him and Do'Shanji back to Whitewater. During these events, Jos heard the unearthly singing once again. Soon, the village was assaulted by Meresi's forces, the battle was hard and bloody. Driven back into the chapel, the villagers joined with the company and succeed in driving away Meresi' bandits, and capturing her. Do'Shanji and Davyn departed that evening, Jos, Sub, Taren and Morgan stayed.

But in the growing shadows of night, necromantic magics of unnerving power raised the slain bandits, villagers, and disturbed the rest of Whitewater's cemetery. Aided by Reachmen warriors, the undead overwhelmed the surprised company, slew the villagers and captured the companions alive. As the next morning dawned, the four found themselves bound and tied amid the ruins of Whitewater, and the many undead seemingly digging up the old, broken standing stone which was next to the chapel.

Taren was able to escape his bonds, and freed the others. Simple minded, the undead continued to obey their previous instructions and did not set upon the unarmed, unarmoured company. Yet.

Looking pretty cool Thorfinn! I like the background to it all, quite ominious and intriguing indeed!

I'll have to think about if I might be able to effectively be a part of two longterm RP's at once. But I'll figure it out soon.

Did you by chance want a photoshop "cover picture" like I have for Shadow's Ascent? I can throw one together if you wish.

This sounds like an excellent RP. I have been hoping to join one that is a little more in depth for a while now. So I am definitely interested in joining with a khajiit warrior (there is a link to his bio in my signature).

I have no problems doing some lore research, I actually would like that challenge. Anyways I have no problems posting a RP sample if you want to read over some, just let me know!

If you could do that I would be seriously grateful!

Clicky is an image I found which I think captures the mood of the RP. Thanks again!

I've already seen your Bio and liked it, I took the liberty of glancing through some currently ongoing RPs here on the forums and also liked what you had written for those, so welcome aboard.

From what I've seen, the both of you would do well in the same RP.

This is looking pretty good, and it would be nice to participate in someone else's RP; though I'm still trying to figure out if I'm able to commit to it.

Hope more people take interest in this!

I'm willing to try and commit. I was thinking about a Breton wizard. Specializing in conjuration. would that work?

@Horizon Seeker

In terms of defending a place, you could do worse than Thorfinn and Do'Shanji. On the other hand, the villagers do need to eat, and they didn't get like that through missing meals.

@Manarax

I look forward to the bio. Might be interesting to have a character with limited personal capabilities bu really powerful summoned servants. Is he weaker than other mages, or stronger?

Strong with magic but very weak physically. I'm thinking of his being better than average as far as magical powers.

Well, looks like we have another member of the RP, and one maybe from Horizon. Encouraging to get some great characters so quickly. I'd like to have at least 5 characters including mine, so we are already nearly there.

I have a friend who is really looking to get into a game, but hasn't found one. I'll let him know and see if he's interested.

Hey, can you post a bio for the character you're going to be Rping with? And maybe a writing sample, since I don't think your participating in any other Rps on this forum. Thanks

I´d like to join with an Sub Gro-Urb, an orcish char. http://www.tesof.com/topic-sub-gro-urb

Short Bio:

Sub was once a bandit, got captured by the Imperial legion and joined it eventually. But the Empire got corrupted by Molag Bal. He witnessed a great atrocity - even on himself a great atrocity was afflicted, namely turning him into a vampire. So Sub fled and thinks of Molag Bal as his personal enemy, who he has to fight back to regain Malacath´s favor, who isn´t pleased about one of "his" orcs been fallen for another Daedraíc Prince.

Who controls the Septim crown?
Who keeps the Allesian Heresy down?
We do, we do

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?
Who keeps the Dwemer under wraps?
We do, we do
