The Crime System

Firstly, will there be one? There must be some kind of penalty for swiping something from a market stall or murdering a particularly annoying shopkeeper in cold blood... After all, it is an Elder Scrolls game. I'm curious to see if they will stick with the bounty system (each time you commit a crime with witnesses your bounty goes up, the amount corresponding with the crime.) Will we see jail cells? Guards arresting players on site? It make things more interesting but really, how could it be applied in-game?

They said a while back that they wouldn't have a crime system "at launch". That was before E3 though. With the pushed back release date, who knows what they'll have? Also, ShoddyCast has done a video that talks about this a bit: http://www.tesof.com/topic-eso-weekly-pr...ilds-crime?

The last time they mentioned it was said that there would not be one at launch but because of the push back they may add one in. I'm guessing it might be an mmo version of RDR's bounty system, 10-990 only guards/lawmen try to arrest you and once you become a public enemy (1000) then players are notified of the player and get a reward for killing/arresting/fining a wanted player.

If there is a crime system, I'd like to see it implemented within Cyrodiil. Players get an extra bonus to alliance points or something if they take down a player who has accrued a large bounty. I would not be surprised if the crime system still doesn't make it in at launch, since it seems the pushback was a result of beta feedback, but we can always hope. That would make this game so much better earlier on.

But remember, even though this is a TES game, logistics prohibit the theft of everything in game...........not every apple will be poachable :)

I'm more worried about the restrictions of crime itself. If I can't kill any player of any race it'd just feel weird. Although, at the same time the griefing would be strong in DC if we could kill people in our own faction.

Why do you think that? I'd be more worried for the EP. Tons of twelve year olds playing as nords. But as for killing members of our own factions, I'd be ok with maybe instead of outright killing each other, a sort of whistle blower system where if you see someone committing a crime you can alert nearby guards and get a reward for having them thrown in jail?

Just to help reinforce faction pride and not resorting to killing someone over stealing 50 apples

I can only imagine a group of orc players raiding the Bretons xD It would be interesting, but not entirely practical!

I really love this idea! It would give players a chance to earn some extra coin while deterring them from getting caught if they're on the other side of the whistle (;

It would be kind of hard to catch someone stealing. It's not like you're looking at their interface going "Hmm... he just stole a piece of bread from that basket". Remember that TES likes that "Look but don't touch" mentality. All we would really see are people crouched in front of a basket for a little while, most likely.

Exactly. It's also fairly true to lore to have those so I don't see why players can't form orc raiding parties or something. I'd also rather have 100 orcs siege a castle for their own then a mix of the 3 races - looks cooler imo. You could even throw in a 4th faction of a "neutral party" which is every player with a bounty. Essentially you could form a bandit posse to take over keeps.
