Khajiit
((Never really figured out a good answer for how old Khajiit usually live, so I'm not giving any dates for this event, just takes place sometime in the distant future when Do'Shanji is much older))

In the thick jungles of Elsweyr there lived a reclusive warrior, a living legend of sorts, in a fading way of life in his homeland. Do'Shanji was his name and he had been tried many times in battle, yet always managed to come out alive. A great deal was owed to luck, but he was also incredibly talented in battle. He had made many enemies in his younger days when he roamed across Tamriel visiting places most Khajiit would only hear tales of. This is why he lived alone in the thick of the jungle; for he had always held secrecy in high regard, especially in his old age.

Do' Shanji was now very old for a Khajiit and had spent his twilight years as an expert Khajiit martial artist. He trained those who would seek his advice just as Do'Rahka, a martial artist of great renown, did for him. However it had been quite some time since last he had a student. There simply were not as many students now that sought the teachings of the Khajiit martial arts, and the few that did went to masters that were not so remote. The Khajiit were moving away from the warrior's path.

On his final day, Do'Shanji stood outside his abode. There he had made a small clearing in the thick of the jungle and built a small hut. The whole area was not that large, and the canopy was not broken by the clearing except for a few areas where rays of light shone through. There was also a patch of sand in the shape of a circle. That was where he practiced Rawlith Khaj, forever trying to improve his strikes. The lack of students meant he spent that much more time on training. So much time had been spent improving his skills in fact that had he ventured back into society, he might have been recognized as one of the great Khajiit martial artists. Perhaps even as great as the masters of old.

This day was like any other and he was there training in the circle. Do'Shanji was practicing a two handed strike meant to disarm a foe. Ever so faintly there was a noise in the jungle around him that he did not recognize. You see he had lived there so long, he could tell when there was something not natural about. Slowly the Khajiit looks around, but saw nothing. He knew his time was near it's end, and had always expected the events that were about to unfold. Do'Shanji knew he was vulnerable, he practices with no armor and is a big target in the open. His actions claimed the lives of many, and there is always someone looking for revenge. He had dealt with attempts on his life before, but this time would be different. Do'Shanji closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

Suddenly springing up from the jungle surrounding, there came six assassins. Do'Shanji's eyes flash open and stared into the face of the nearest one. He could tell the assassin was a vampire, covered in black leather armor and carrying two steel daggers. Then Do'Shanji noticed something that gave him a sense of dread. They all had the insignia of the Crimson Suns on their armor. 'Impossible, they were completely wiped out' He remembered back to one of his adventures where he played a key role in their demise. He was right, the Crimson Suns had been wiped out. Or almost that is, there were a few remaining in hiding. Over the years they had built up in strength and now could take on those who had destroyed their order. The Crimson Suns had been reborn, and their first task was vengeance!

Knowing now that this is likely his final hour the Khajiit disregards all personal safety. He goes into a rage, he will kill them all if he can. The one he locked eyes with would be first. The tall Khajiit lunges at the first vampire. His razor sharp claws tear him to pieces. The poor soul's leather might have given him some protection against a typical blade, but it was like paper to the sharpness of Do'Shanji's claws. The vampire falls over, a shredded bloody mass.

Do'Shanji turned around to find another assassin barreling towards him. He was running too fast though, and Do'Shanji simply stepped out of the way. As the vampire went past him, Do'Shanji stuck his claws into the vampire's back and pulled him to the ground. He put his weight into the claws as he dragged him down and they carved eight massive gouges in the vampire's back. The assassin let out a loud shriek as it died that seemed to suck the life out of the area. The whole jungle seemed to darken.

A third vampire jumped behind him and made a large slice into his back with an ornate looking elvish short sword. The sharp sting made Do'Shanji's muscles ache and tense up, he had been poisoned. He leaped forward to escape the attacker. Another vampire tried to take advantage of the situation and swung his mace at him. Do'Shanji felt a needed surge of adrenalin and rolled down out of the way just in time. He came with surprising agility for such an advanced age and unleashed a focused strike into the man's unarmored head. The force was so great that the vampire's skull was fractured. 'Three down...three to go...adrenalin is staving off the poison, but it wont last long...' He forced himself to turn around and fight yet again.

The vampire that had cut him earlier was back now and got another hit on Do'Shanji, this time on his arm. The damage piles up, but it only seems to feed Do'Shanji's rage. He planted his feet and rammed his shoulder into the vampire's chest, knocking him over. He was stopped from finishing the foe off though, for he suddenly lost feeling in his left leg. He looked down and saw blood running down his leg from a gash in his thigh. The fifth vampire, an especially grim looking man with plate armor and a claymore, had made a large gash in his thigh. The grim vampire was loading up for another swing, but Do'Shanji would counter before his stroke had a chance to fall. His paws seem to act on their own. He claps them together and punches the large blade out of the vampire's hands. It was the very same strike that he had been practicing when they attacked. The vampire reels back and Do'Shanji immediately unleashes his powerful claws into the man's throat, the lone unarmored area. He slit the assassin's throat apart and slowly stood back up.

Do'Shanji tried to find the vampire that held the ornate sword, he seemed to be the leader of the bunch. The Khajiit wanted to make sure he did not escape. He was interrupted for the moment however, for there was still the sixth vampire. This one actually looked scared of the massive Khajiit and had avoided fighting him as long as possible. There was no hiding for him though and Do'Shanji was on him like a terror. The vampire was armored in mail, but Do'Shanji could easily work his claws into the openings. The makers of the armor did not take into account the precise claws of a Khajiit martial artist. The vampire was little more than a speed bump to him.

Do'Shanji looked around, 'where is the last one' His body ached, and he knew he could not last much longer. He turned back around to see an arrow flying right at him. There is no time to react, and he is hit in the chest. The force sends him reeling back onto his other foot. Slowly Do'Shanji looks up at the archer, who is none other than the leader. Slowly the Khajiit begins to run towards him. The wounds made it difficult but he started gaining speed. The vampire let out an evil laugh and loosed another arrow, hitting Do'Shanji in the right leg. He ignores the pain and presses on, the gap is almost closed and Do'Shanji will soon be upon his prey. Upon seeing the, seemingly immortal, Khajiit barreling towards him there is a look of despair in the vampire's eyes. He fumbled for an arrow and quickly loaded it for one more shot. Do'Shanji leaped at him, claws bristling at the ready. The vampire lets the arrow fly arrow just in time and hits Do'Shanji in the shoulder. Lady luck looked favorably on him one last time and his momentum was enough to carry him into the last vampire. He furiously tore at the man, ripping him apart. When he is dead, the Khajiit turns his head to the sky and lets out a loud roar. As the sound reverberates through the jungle, it seems to bring the land back to life and a green hue replaces the darkness.

After letting out his shout, Do'Shanji fell backwards. His broken body was failing him and the poison coursed through his veins now that his adrenalin had failed him. He looked up into the sky, it was a beautiful day. Do'Shanji smiles. His spirit will be at rest knowing he has finished those who were sent after him. They had all been killed, but he would soon join them in the afterlife. Slowly his consciousness slips away. His last thoughts were of the friends he had made in his adventures, wondering what fate they had come to. There is a slight breeze that flows through the jungle and there is peace. So ended the life of Do'Shanji, a true warrior of Elsweyr.

(( I believe they like like 150-175 years, on average, or so ))
A true ending to a true warrior. Good story.
Rawlith Khaj, his main skill, saved his life plenty of times.
But there's always that one time it doesn't.
Anyway, I liked it a lot :D
Well, I didn't like that Do'Shanji dies, but I like HOW it happens. It really gets me thinking, how do I want MY characters to die?

It's a very interesting topic, I really had to think about it for a while. I just set it very far in the future so I don't have to worry about it anytime soon, haha.

I like how the first paragraph describes himself and khajiit society in a way that's like old warriors fading away at the end of an era. The ending also seems as if a great warrior and martial artist had fallen.

If you are concerned on the fight looking one-sided, perhaps you could describe the armor and weapons the vampires are wielding as well as their fighting style. I'd imagine vampire assassins to be formidable foes in their own right; swift, silent, and deceptive in their attacks. Fights have two sides afterall, so you could give both Do'Shanji and his attackers equal attention!

Also perhaps instead of micro-focusing on individual maneuvers and swings-- you could describe some of the fighting on a more macro-scale. So instead of describing each single movement, you instead describle the overall style he is using as he battles his foes. This is just a writing style preference of course, but it could help give the audience a better picture of what's going on from a wider perspective.

Good advice as always, thanks Horizon Seeker!

I always hate describing battles because I feel like I need to detail every move. I never thought of just trying to take a bigger picture approach. I'll have to make some drafts of this story with that style to see how it looks.

even though my field is character design i'll give you the best feedback i can :), i really liked it! the death of a character isn't something many seem to think about (well that might not be the case, it seems death of our characters have been trending on these forums) reguardless well done for tackling this subject.

i love how you discribe the fight, i can see it now, the vampires surround you, your in the middle like a surrounded animal, but these vampires have misjudged exactly who they are fighting against and get punished for that. i like how your character dies by normal means (some what normal :P) though there is one thing that confuses me! and i think it might just be a mistake :P but its to do with the line "He looks up into the sky. It is a beautiful day. He smiles" now there is nothing wrong with this sentence, infact its my favorite part of the story, the problem is that you are fighting vampires, in the day. :P

good story well done :)

Updated and made substantially longer with more detail. I tried to incorporate some of the things you guys suggested and I think it turned out pretty well. It is definitely a much better story now I think.

Quib thank you for pointing that out to me about the vampires. I didn't even think of that! I hope it is ok that they will be under the jungle canopy so the daylight is not directly on them. It would be light, but not like being in the open. I also had them darken the area with a spell for a while too so it seemed more realistic.

Only just found this. Really good, I loved how you incorporated the Crimson Sun into it! Glad he went down fighting, a good death for a brilliant character.

I know Solduiran was very busy and since that was his RP I didn't really want to continue it without him since we had no idea where the Suns were or what his ideas were for the flow of the story. It really is a shame because he is an excellent RP'er and that particular RP was actually one of my favorite RPs I have been a part of I think.
