Welcome to the Morrowind Discussion Thread! This is a place where you can chat all things relating to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Content may include anything from questions about mods, sharing ingame encounters, or reminiscing on your past adventures as the Nerevarine. For those who are planning to play Morrowind however, please place a SPOILERS tag on your post for any quest-story details.

So I was playing Morrowind today, and while adventuring upon the volcanic slopes of the Red Mountain-- fighting through legions of ash slaves, ash ghouls, ascended sleepers, and of course a gratutitious amount of Cliffracers; I came across the most unexpected of creatures in this dry ash covered waste...

I came across a Mudcrab.

I have no mods that would affect spawn points of creatures. There are no rivers, ponds, lakes, or any other kind of body of water upon the Red Mountain volcano. This is in fact probably the driest location upon the isle of Vvardenfell. Seeing a Mudcrab here was like finding a flame atronach on the peaks of High Hrothgar, or encountering a werebear in the Imperial Palace.

The presence of this Mudcrab was an enigma. A frightening enigma that made me run pass it flailing my arms and screaming in terror. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized this enigma was in fact an omen.

An omen that I interpreted as a sign to make a Morrowind Discussion thread, which TESOF members could use to discuss anything about The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, whether great or small, exciting or mundane. A thread where they can ask questions about mods, talk about their adventures, or simply fondly remember this installment of the Elder Scrolls series.

And so by the will of the Red Mountain Mudcrab, I have made this thread.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Awesome thread, first and foremost. Is that really a mudcrab though? It looks like a brainless, ash-covered metroid from the Samus games.

Indeed it is a mudcrab.

For in Morrowind, mudcrabs are indeed brainless ash-covered metroid creatures.

So when people in Oblivion say, "I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you!" They actually mean they've encountered and fought galatic interstellar parasitic alien creatures.

Use this newfound knowledge well, Outlander.

Hahaha so then I take it that's the mudcroid's prey in the background, and not your kill?

If you know anything about Cliffracers, you would know that they are the most despised and hated creature upon the face of Morrowind.

They are cruel and merciless creatures, constantly attacking in neverending numbers you as you transverse the land.

Also, unlike in Skyrim; in the land of Morrowind, all manners of beasts and monsters have united together in a great evil alliance to kill you. Vvardenfell's metroid mudcrabs are a part of this.

Everything I say in this post is true. Be weary in Morrowind. And watch the skies, traveler.

Except the Netches, because Netches are awesome.

Yes, the creatures of the Peaceful League of Local Wildlife include the netches, scribs, a few idealist kwama workers, and some of the native civilized guar tribes!

But everything else wants to kill the player, and have banded together to do so. (They won't attack each other.)

I love Morrowind, by far the best out of the series, no quick travel or quest markers...when you get out of the Census & Excise Office at Seyda Neen, you really are out on your own, free to do what ever, and nothing other than a "go to Balmora" to guide you.
The shrieking of a Cliff racer always made my hairs stand on end for some reason.

I was really immersed in Morrowind, more than any other TES games, sure the controls were like trying to drive a potato to work, but you get over that with the mystery of opening a Deadric shrine door to find the bright red eyes of a Dremora looking at you with blood lust!

Although I would like the next TES game to be in a new area of Tamriel that we haven't seen yet, preferably Valenwood or Black marsh, I think it would be a great and bold move for Bethesda to completely remake Morrowind, voice acting, better UI, Skyrim combat but still NO fast travel, just Silt Striders, as it was intended to be.
As long time TES fans we would throw our money at them and even pay for Tribunal and Bloodmoon DLC again, and the new TES fans that have found Skyrim amazing would finally see that Morrowind was indeed the best story and immersive gameplay of the 3 recent TES games.

I definitely liked how exploration and finding things were placed solely on the player and some text. It made exploring Morrowind done with your eyes and wit, which did really help with actually gaining a sense of the world. Even if such a system was ruthless at times, it made finding things feel much more rewarding. The variety in that game was also pretty amazing compared to later series installments! Whenever you saw a daedric ruin or cave; you never quite knew what was waiting for you in there, or what unique treasures you might find. Playing the game nowadays, I am still discovering new things despites putting hundreds of hours into it.

Admittedly though, some things I would've never encountered in a lifetime of playing the game if I didn't look things up sometimes. An example would be the Daedric Face of God, seriously if anyone claimed they found that helm totally on their own I would call them a liar and a scoundrel and challenge them to a duel with flintlocks on a grassy field twenty miles south of London.

Although it'd be nice to have a modern day Morrowind remake (more than nice actually), I'm thinking Bethesda would rather have the games continue moving forward. But I do think that now that the Elder Scrolls has such an expansive player base, they could do more exotic things and bold things in future ES games.

The only problems I had with cliff racers was that their sound file is annoying as hell and they took forever to come down to you when flying at a higher altitude. I hated sitting there for 30 seconds watching it drop inch by inch directly above me.

True, imo cliff racers are the most annoying Morrowind creatures xD

Morrowind is an awesome game, I remember when I first played it, I was about 14 years old, hadn't played a real RPG before and was quite confused by the skill system^^
But the open world and the experiences immersed my unlike any other game I've played since (I guess this also changed with my age though).
I still recall clearly how I was chased by a mere Nix-Hound for several minutes when I first explored the wilderness at a really low level xD

I'd even consider Morrowind my favorite game not only of the TES series, but of all the games I ever played.

*Morrowind-Favorite-Game-Ever-Person Highfive*

And I believe 10 out of 10 Morrowind fans agree that Cliff Racers are the most irritating thing in the world of Tamriel. Praise St. Jiub!

I have not read this anywhere else, I discovered it myself and use it well my fellow Morrowind fans :P
At the start of the game, when you are first allowed to jump, ignore the ring, instead go to the corner of the wall and the building behind the barrel, jump into it :P

Welcome to forgiveness for any and all crimes.
To date the only game actually installed on my computer is Morrowind.

*A Highfive back* :)

I also have it still installed, while I deinstall most games after playing due to memory space.
I even copied a version of the data files with all the mods and stuff so I can play the normal Morrowind (with the two addons) or the messed up version with about 10-20 mods and stuff^^
