About The Telvanni Acquisition [House Telvanni Guild]
Main
The Telvanni Acquisition

The wizard-lords of House Telvanni have traditionally isolated themselves, pursuing wisdom and mastery in solitude. But certain ambitious wizards-lords, their retainers, and clients have entered wholeheartedly into the competition to control and exploit Vvardenfell's land and resources, building towers and bases all along the eastern coast. According to Telvanni principles, the powerful define the standards of virtue. --Great Houses of Morrowind

What is House Telvanni?

From the heights of the enchanted towers of Sadrith Mora and Port Telvannis to the lowliest dungeon depths of arcane decompression chambers and Velothi Towers refitted to their purposes, House Telvanni's majesty and splendor is a thing known Tamriel-over. They are one of the Great Houses that reside over the province and country of the Dunmer, Morrowind.

This is, of course, a superficial thing, for in their hubris, their vanity, most isolate themselves from the political play, and instead work as seekers of the most antediluvian of the Aetherial arts. From retainer to archmagister, the Telvanni understand that to uncover the many avenues of lore of the arcane, one must shed themselves of dogmatic regulations and throw themselves with full-force into their ambitious efforts.

To be Telvanni is to live in their cutthroat world of wizardry. It is to subject oneself not only to the eldritch dangers of the Aetherius and the Daedric realms, but to also endure the cunning of ambitious peers and subordinates wishing to rise to power by disposing of those within the House which stand in their path.

What is the Acquisition?

The Acquisition represents a splinter faction of the Great House that is attempting to divorce itself from the traditional, aloof nature of the Telvanni by taking a more active interest in the world around them. This is not to be misunderstood as an act of charity, but a more proactive step to their self-interested agenda: the complete, fanatical seizure and cataloguing of all forms of arcane artifacts.

These cynosures are generally catalogued into two distinct categories: the Athenaeum and the Reliquary. The Athenaeum is a vast repository of all textual artifacts, from grimoires to treatise and magnum opera, and is overseen by the current Librarian. The second part of this division is represented by the Reliquary, which is the collection of more finite artifacts outside the text-based norm. This institution is maintained by the current Curator.

In addition to the lore departments, there are two Ministers beneath them that lead the militant wing of the Acquisition. The first is the Minister of War, and it is their job to ensure all foreign enemies of the collective are dealt with should it devolve into hostilities. The second is the Minister of Law whose sole task is the rooting out and elimination of negative elements within the order.

Staying true to the House’s refusal to sign the Ebonheart Pact, the Acquisition has chosen instead to work with the Dunmeri people on a more unofficial level, allowing for more freedom of movement in order to pursue their wizardry-inspired goals in exchange for lending assistance on the many battlefields where the Pact may call.

Advancement

Hirelings and Scribes - The infamous entry ranks. At this point, hirelings are no more than the conscripted mercenaries the House employs to assure most of their physical work is done and scribes are extended servants of House Telvanni on their first step as budding mages wishing to show their skill and competitive edge to their wizard-lord superiors. These ranks are only to test the character's potential with interacting with the guild as well as the ability to be "loyal" to the effort, not a means of testing the player's OOC role-play skill. To be allowed access to our guild - and by proxy this rank - you must have already shown an above-average grasp of role-play etiquette and writing.

Oath Ranks

After the character in question has been selected for uplifting into the institution proper - by skill and dedicated service - a ceremony and oath is taken to ensure silence, secrecy, and devotion to the Acquisition's "higher" ideals. Words and rituals of binding are expected. If they choose to go through with this, they will rise to the rank that best fits their skills.

Lawman - The rank of Lawman is geared more towards those physically-inclined who fall into the web of the Acquisition. Their tasks range from the foreign - such as repelling those who seek to encroach on the order and security attachments for expeditions - to the domestic disturbances of possible treasonous, seditious, or espionage-related elements within the order. Carrying out domestic tasks can only be done with the express permission of the Minister of Law.

Spellwright - With those who have shown a considerable finesse in weaving the Arcane, the role of the Spellwright awaits them. It is their "job" to act as the myriad of primary assistants to their assigned Wizard, allowing them to further their studies while also immersing them in the wealthy deposits of lore the Acquisition has to offer. The competitive rivalries and murder that House Telvanni is most noted for is believed to be more predominant here than any other section of the Acquisition as they have just begun their rise to power and truely immersed themselves in the competition of the house.

Arbiter - For every four Lawmen there exists an Arbiter whose task is to rise above the common soldier and act as commanding officer for their squad. An Arbiter is chosen out of five Lawmen when they show exceptional leadership ability as well as combat expertise. These men and women report directly to the Minister of Law and the Minister of War.

Wizard - Just as the Arbiter, a Wizard is chosen out of five Spellwrights when the Acquisition accrues them, and is required to not only tutor their underlings in the many fields of magic, but also to lead personal research teams with them and report their findings back to either the Curator and Librarian or their Viceroy. Spellwrights who express a prodigious grasp of the arcane talents as well as the ability to properly manage and bring their subordinates to prosper are generally selected for this rank.

The Office of the Telvanni Acquisition

The Aetherial Blade - Only those who show the most martial prowess - whether over the demesne of magicka or the physical arts - are allowed entrance into the Acquisition's elite strike force, the Aetherial Blade. To be admitted one must receive letters or votes of approval from each of the officers. They are permitted to carry out their perceived "will" of the office should none be around to observe and command, whether it be the judicial actions of investigating and interrogating a member who has suspicions of working against the Acquisition or assembling a defense or offense in response to a foreign affair as well as overseeing any form of research that is done within the Athenaeum or Reliquary. In essence, they are the secret police of the leadership, and the lowest order of "Office." As such, they will also be OOCly held to an even higher standard than the normal members.

The Minister of Law and War - The military aspects of the campaign are spearheaded by two administrators, each one holding a task of their own. The Minister of War's job is to ensure all foreign enemies of the collective are dealt with should it devolve into hostilities as well as assure proper defenses and offenses are set up so that we are prepared for such events. The Minister of Law's goal is to oversee any and all operations residing over the investigation, detaining, and potential execution of those who have been found with suspicions within the guild that compromise the order.

Viceroy - For the Curator and Librarian's busy nature, the Viceroy is given the task of meting out their will on matters that require their personal attention when they are otherwise occupied by other matters. His word is to be taken as the word of the Curator and the Librarian and cannot be disputed by anyone other than the Curator and Librarian.

The Curator and Librarian - At the height of leadership rests the two leaders of the order. The Librarian oversees the Athenaeum whereas the Curator presides over the Reliquary.

OOC Info

The Telvanni Acquisition wishes to emulate the atmosphere of the Wizard-Lords of the Dunmer. We seek to recreate the aloof isolationism (though with a slightly dulled edge), the casual approach to competitive murder, and the magnitude of arcane power which was seen at the height of Telvanni ability. While still maintaining this traditional setting, we also want to inspire in our members a feeling of occult-like and ritualistic themes, as there are deeper mechanisms at work beneath the surface of the order that only time and service to the guild will render such knowledge.

For those interested, high-literacy is required as well as an understanding of the do's-and-don't's of role-play: no meta-gaming, god-modding, or taking IC drama and transitioning it to an OOC setting. In addition, a decent grasp of the Elder Scrolls lore is encouraged as are well-developed characters (specifically those regarding the Dunmer).

For those interested in the guild, we currently have a forum that is -entirely- unfinished and a large work in progress, but I needed to throw one together so that people who are interested in the idea might join:
