I had an brain fart on this last night thinking how a necro's skills would work, raising the dead in a pvp match that would both be fun and a very cool element to add to the game.

My idea would was based on his ultimate skill and that you could accutaly raise players and have the exact stats/skills a such player had on his/her load out. The raised player would not be able to resurrected/respawn untill the spell finished its duration (duration of 30 seconds to 1 minute) Thus providing a chance for your forces to gain a strong ally in battle and to prevent reinforcements of the enemy team.

The cool part about this is, the player had to watch his toon turn on his team and attack them with no control. I personally would loves to watch my character do this in pvp. Now I know we all want our faction to win but just watching something like this with no control, would provide a huge entertainment factor for both sides of the fight.

Like I said just some brain fart I had.... What do you guys think?

that skill sounds exordinarily overpowered.

I wouldnt even say that necromancy as such will be playable, since it will most likeley be linked to the hostile imperials. if it is, i supose summoning will be more about daedra summoning (atronarchs beeing confirmed) as for raising dead. A system simmilar Skyrim has been confirmed for NPCs (however they seem to raise the dead as skeletons)

Yes but with it being an ultimate ability it won't be use that often cause of having to gain enough finesse and maybe having the spell duration decreased down to say 20 seconds would be better.

it would certainly be interresting. but mind you it would either be easy to abuse or unreliable. AI is always dodgy, and full controll could lead to some awkward abuse. Especialy when a necromancer is rezzing a necromancer....

Depends which path they take. In Skyrim necromancy has been blended into Conjuration school, but we see the Templar and Dragon Knights, possibly the Warder and Sorcerer later on, so it seems they decided to make original classes and might eventually come up with some class build around necromancy.

As far as I noticed, there are no signs of companions and pets and the combat system wouldnt allow direct control of them anyway

Mannimarco is back, so we can safely say necromancy as a concept will be there, perhaps we would be able to join the necromancers guild in future patches, we were good friends in Daggerfall :)

I'm thinking I didn't explain myself correctly, the ablility would only be able to be used on "enemies" and that the necro would not be able to use there abilities they have slotted but the AI uses them at there disposal. As for PvE I can't really see it being abused on "boss" like enimies cause of the short duration. There is no way they could carry the minion over to the next boss in a 20 second duration.

But yes it could be very intresting to see something like this implemented in the game.

With AI control, I dont see it as impossible, but its still rather powerful feature bringing back to live a geared player with his abilities. There would have to be penalties, perhaps to his attack speed, possibly vulnerability to dmg ... and cost hefty bit of mana the "necromancer" himself

Possibilites in PvP would be nice, perhaps a trap made of 10 "necromancers" with dead bodies around, opponent group of 10 launch and attack and suddenly necromancers double their ranks for 30sec (leaving them with almost no mana but most of opponents wouldnt realize that). That would be fun

If there were a playable necro class that would make for a neat/creepy battle rez, where you basically bring a member of your own group back as a shambling zombie. Most likely there won't be much in the way of player necromancy however; as sordak pointed out it is pretty strongly identified with "the bad guys" once again. It would make for a very cool mechanic if used on players by bosses/ npc necros, though if every cave-dwelling conjurer is going to be doing it I doubt the raised zombie would maintain full player stats.

well iremember necromancers in EQ2 havint he ability to rezz friendly players. but thats hardly the same.

Probably a fast in battle rezz that doesnt have a casttime but rezzes him as a zombie.

Necromancers will most likely have an ability to animate a dead corpse however I suspect this animation will come in a standard form.

i think necromancy needed in the game. but if we do it in the city that forbid it. the guard will come and arrest you for necromancy :P
