The ones who know me from my more active days (however short they might have been), might remember I was stressing for a band audition (I previously sang in a melodic death metal band and had been looking for a new band for a while). In the end all went well and ever since I have been working on this, which is why I have been much less active than I would prefer.

The name of my band is TOLK. It's a Folk Metal band whose music is a story. The band has taken it to another level by actually including maps, character bios, and more information on places and objects. Every song tells a story from this fantasy world.

Being the nerd that I am I was really interested in the band and its concept, so I am glad the audition went well. The band has existed for a while (they just lacked a singer), so my job has been to write vocal lines for the songs and since I am American (I live in France), I have also translated the songs (and stories) into English.

It's been a lot of work, but it's been pretty fun so far and I'm excited for the things to come.

For the moment we have a facebook page with a band photo and 1 sheet of the story.

We are currently on working to record a demo track that should be available on the facebook page in the near future and our first show is planned for April 13.

If you're interested in the music, story, pictures or just being nosey, you can check out TOLK here (everything is in English AND French).

Eluveite is a big influence of the band ;)

For myself I have my youtube page which shows my singing.. as for the others they have some covers they did and things of that nature, but I don't think it is what you are looking for.

I like the sounds of it! I'm not a huge fan of metal but I like the folk part of it.
Looking forward to hearing your first song.

The intro on your Facebook page sounds promising, really looking forward to hear some more! What's better than a folk metal band that's part of the ESO community?
I'm a huge fan of folk metal, actually now when i looked up a bit at my shelf I could quickly spot Heidevolk, Turisas, Ensiferum, Brymir, Týr, Eluveitie, Korpiklaani and Amon Amarth albums collecting dust, maybe your album will find it's way to the same place one day. :)

Thanks all.

We are working on getting a song done. We recorded vocals, but since it is homebrew (and therefore demo quality) and we had a bit of an issue with mic position/placement, we are going to have to do it again this weekend. Drums are done, bass, keyboard, flute.. guitars need to be re-done as well.

If all goes well, I'm guessing maybe a month max before we post something besides the Intro.

As for myself I'm getting a little nervous. Our first show is planned for April 13, and that gives me about a month to learn 5 songs.. It's not a lot of time! O_o

Lots of luck with the band and the performance, Anex :D I browsed your channel a bit, what program do you use to record? I'm going to get myself a Yeti in a couple of weeks to record, and I'm just curious how other singers record and edit their stuff :)

Thanks! :)

Most of what is recorded via video games is a crappy USB rockband mic (or the Lips Microphone).. or sometimes I use my Shure SM 58 A Beta with a XLR -> USB cable so there is no DAW for those.

In the case of the Tale of the Tongues cover I used my Samson c01u mic and the included program Cakewalk Sonar LE. Most everyone else uses programs like Cubase, but generally because they obtain illegal versions. However Cubase is often included with a lot of studio recording hardware too.

Most people with Macs tend to use the acclaimed included garageband software.

We posted a song to give a better idea of our music. It was the first composition of the band a few years ago and my first composed vocal melody, so it is simple. Our others songs are a bit more interesting in my opinion ;)

We've had a lot of comments about how bad the quality is (reverbnation also compresses a bit), but keep in mind this is a home-recording.. so don't expect more than demo quality.

Personally I know that the guitar could be much better with another recording technique that our guitarist is being too stubborn to try, but aside from that we did what we could.

Anyway here is Battle of the Brave. I hope we can have some live videos to share in the coming weeks.

We've decided to upload a re-mixed version of Battle of the Brave following the feedback we received. It is still a ZERO-BUDGET recording and is more to give an idea of our music.
Hopefully this version is better than the other. We are looking into possible small studios or something for the future.

As the previous version was, this new version of the song is available for free download via our Band Profile/ReverbNation tab/page (https://www.facebook.com/TOLKmusic/app_2405167945).
