Two handed or shield and sword

When I play this game I am going for an Orc tank and wish to play mostly on PvP.

My tactics on the offensive would be to rest on the flanks of the front line, using fiery reach to pull the enemy from its position and deal deadly blows to them.

Would a two handed weapon be better for this over a shield and sword?

Or is shield and sword the right way to go for a Tank in PvP?

I have found in Skyrim that I do not block so much with two handed weapons, but understand that in TESO you use stamina whilst using block.

I also appreciate that it can be hard to determine which weaponry would be best used for a game that is not out yet.

Cheers,

Dude of Valor

Have one as a primary and the other as a secondary.

Sword and shield, are more for tanks.
Two-handers are more for, DPS warriors.

Thanks for the replies.

I did think that I could use both styles for primary and secondary however am I likely to dilute my character early on by using both?

Would it be important to have a ranged weapon as opposed to two different melee style weapons?

I understand in Elder Scrolls you can be whatever you want to be, however with my intention of playing alot of PvP I do not want to suck to hard at it.

A backup bow, is always useful. And staves work well.

You can try out both styles and see whichever one works better.

Two handed is more of an offense where you deal a lot of damage with few swings, weapon an shield is more of defensive block and protect yourself and give smaller amounts of damage. So whatever you prefer or are better with you should use because both can work for a tank as long as you wear heavy armor.

Check the skill lines for both setups then you may have a better idea... Could be useful to have both and weapon swap.

Do not rely too much on Skyrim combat experience, this will be a totally different beast.

I settled on sword and shield after a reroll from testing everything I got my hands on. You can get smushed by being a jack of trades in this game. I like the flow of the s/s combo. I am looking forward to the bash skills as I am an old timer pnp dnder who used to bash and stun the crap outta my foes. Having the opportunity to do that is just too tempting. I played around with it and you can see it going down as they stagger back. Its just cool. As well its good survivability. Dont expect huge damage unless you are defuffing though.

You'll accumulate enough skill points to train in two different weapon skills for sure. Especially if you only pick and choose skills that you will for sure use.

I am running 2handed for AoE encounters, Sword & Board for Single Target. In PvP though I would recommend having some heals (external/internal) if you are going to frontline tank, moreso than importance on weaponset.
